This year thus far it has been Durant, but the playoffs will really determine.

If we're solely basing it on their play this season, then it's clearly Durant. However, I'd still contest LeBron's best is better than Durant's best.

I'd say the same as above, I vote KD right now, but think playoffs will decide for sure. Its way way closer than ever though.

This isn't universally true when comparing 2 players, but given lebron's body of work, and the fact that he hasn't visibly declined this yr, i think "who's the better player?" and "who's having the better season?" can be separated. I still think lebron's the better player, but durant's having the better season.

^^

I'm swallowing some crow, I know LeBron is taking it a bit more easy than usual, but I didn't think Durant would have better season's than LeBron until LeBron had a visible decline.

I would definitely say that Durant is having the better season, but Lebron is the better player. Durant's play has been incredible this year, I hope he keeps it up cause they are both a blast to watch.

KD is having a superior season but Lebron is the better player. Still it's extremely impressive how much better Durant is getting especially since he's still very young.

KD is having the better season and I think KD may actually be the better player at this point.

Wow, split vote. I'm frankly surprised quite a bit by this poll.

I think Kds been the better player this season mostly b/c of Lebrons very mediocre defense in the 1st half
BUT Kd seems to be slowing down more now while Lebrons picking up steam (especially on D) just like last season around this time. So by the end of the season it may be Lebron. As of now Kd

I think LeBron's still the better player. Durant's coming off a hot streak (in addition to having tremendously improved his all-around game; not downplaying how amazing his season has been) and LeBron's jumper has been very cold, so Durant's season to date is quite a bit better, but it still feels like LeBron on the whole has more raw ability to get what he wants done on the court.

So LeBron has had several seasons above 30 on PER, has been a scoring champ, forward with most APG of all time, two time champion, 4 times MVP, 2 times finals MVP, crazy ts% and all of a sudden KD goes on a crazy (and awesome!) streak of games and he's the best player?

Some posters here just lack respect for the King. It's always the same ones going against him, putting him out of top 10 list of all time, now below KD, etc. LeBron has to do ten times more than any other player to get the same amount of recognition on RealGM.

KD is the front-runner for MVP this season and if it ended today and I voted, I would vote for him. But he needs to do more to be ahead of the B2B champion, MVP and Finals MVP to be considered the best player in the league.

KD is unquestionably the best player in the game. He is unguardable, and has the most complete offensive game since Kobe. His Defense has also taken major steps forward this year, and the stats support that he has surpassed Lebron in this regard(Lebron was always overrated in this area IMO). His passing has also improved considerably, and with westbrook out he is able to show it off nicely.

The fact that the Thunder are at the top of the wild-wild west with westbrook out, and the Heat have a worse record being 2nd in the trash east says it all.

True but Durant's PER/AP48 combo is arguably better then any LBJ season.

two time champion

Team award.
KD beasted in the 2012 Finals and that series could have easily gone the other way.
People forget how close that series actually was.

4 times MVP

Subjective media given award. Plus Durant has multiple #2 finishes.

2 times finals MVP

Lebron has had more chances at it and KD has had one dominant Finals performance (in many less tries then it took Lebron to have one).

crazy ts% and all of a sudden KD goes on a crazy (and awesome!) streak of games and he's the best player

I wouldn't call it a streak considering more then half the season has been played.
Also I never felt the gap between Lebron & Durant was very big so with Durant improving this year and with Lebron taking the peddle off the gas it isn't surprising that some people are questioning who the best player in the game is.

Some posters here just lack respect for the King.

Could say the same thing for Durant (for those who think Lebron has always been 10 steps ahead of KD).

LeBron has to do ten times more than any other player to get the same amount of recognition on RealGM.

I actually feel Lebron gets overrated in general but also on RGM mainly because now that he has won a Ring or two people are quick to forget all the playoff elimination series he bombed in (2013 included despite the win).
