No way we could get away with highway robbery like that.

But Smith works better with LeBron than Deng does, and as we all know, LeBron is going back to Cleveland...

ohhhhhhhh, thats right hes leaving 85 degree South Beach to go back to 25 degrees & Dan Gilbert.

I don't even blame Lebron for not wanting to come back to CLE. CLE is the clearly one of the messiest FOs if not the messiest in the league right now.

Plus, the cold and snow. I wouldn't even want to come back with those two in mind.

If I was Gilbert, I would sell the Cavaliers and buy the Pistons. I would LOVE to have him as an owner. In my opinion, he would extend Dumars and I'm not against that. It's NOT easy to have that much experience as much as Dumars does. Gilbert already owns the majority of Woodward and I definitely think he would move the Pistons to downtown Detroit. With Illitch and Gilbert working together, I see them making a very nice stadium for both the Wings and the Pistons.

I wonder if he even likes basketball or simply bought the Pistons because they were the team for sale in a city he had certain roots in.

IMHO, I have to disagree with Gores being the worst owner. So the delays in buying the team, and when it actually went down, sort of tied Dumars' hands until last summer. I'm sure he convinced Gores that he could turn it around and we'd be a playoff team this year. And Gores let's him run with that plan. The fact that the plan isn't working is on Dumars, not Gores.

It is Gores' job to evaluate the results of his investments and those in charge of running them. You don't fire someone in the first week of the season, especially when you bought off on the plan. Heck, we all had some doubts, but the plan sure looked better than what we rolled out last season. But I digress. Now is the time for Gores to hold Dumars' feet to the fire, and now is the time to judge Gores. Will he just let Dumars' keep bumbling around? Will he fire Dumars? Will he bring in some front office "help" and do something significant at the trade deadline? I think the answers to these questions can help us judge Gores. But for now, he's been willing to spend money on both players and facilities, and gave a GM who has won a championship a few years for a rebuild. I don't knock him for that.

Theres been some people speculating that Gilbert might eventually end up with all or part of the Red Wings/Tigers too. It wouldn't be surprising if Gilbert does end up involved with the a new stadium because like you said hes been buying up a lot of properties. Having all 4 teams down town will help his business more.

Gilbert puts his money where his mouth is... so far he already rivals Mr. I in developments in the city... he heads up the leadership committee for growth and development.
Gores is all talk so far.

Can't imagine that would be kosher in the eyes of the NBA, an owner of another team co-owns the arena where a rival team will play??

I can't see the Ilitch family ever selling the Red Wings, but I could see the Tig's sold once Mike passes. Baseball was much more his personal passion than anything else.

Don't the Jets and the Giants share an NFL stadium or am I mistaken? I'm not saying the NBA would agree to it but I do think there's at least precedent within the sports world.

So then I'd have to watch his kid and his bow tie represent the Pistons at the draft lottery? No thanks. Gilbert's done nothing but suck as an NBA owner.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see Gilbert dump the Cavs and buy one of the Tigers/Wings/Pistons. It's clear Gilbert has much stronger ties to Detroit than Cleveland. I'm convinced he only bought the Cavs because the Pistons weren't available at the time and he saw a chance to cash in off Lebron's back. I think his letter was much more a businessman who just saw a 26 year old cost him millions of dollars and trying to do damage control on ticket sales than the fan comforting rallying cry most of Cleveland saw it as.

In all honesty, if Dan Gilbert bought the Pistons, I'd be very happy. He might be a douche, but at least we would know he would care about the team. I'd also appreciate him moving the Pistons downtown (which he's already said should happen).

I don't imagine anyone lining up to buy the Cavs at this point, but Gilbert has much stronger Detroit ties and the Pistons have been a strong draw in the past while the Cavs have only moved above 3rd banana when they had Lebron and when the Browns were out of town.
