It starts tonight. We should probably talk about it.

And the list of athletes with Wisconsin ties

Lies. We have a chance to medal in a few events.

That Shani Davis fellow is pretty decent. Wouldn't mind if he wins a few more silver medals.

I do admire the sentiment but that pic IMO doesn't really capture the true macho sexuality that closet Putin possesses. It think we need a Chuck/Sigra combo workshop here.

There is an Olympics forum now on Realgm. It looks like not much is happening there yet. If it picks up I'll have to close this down and redirect to that board. For now this thread will work.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I'm pretty sure there was last time and we still had a thread. It's nice to have a thread for just us, no Canadians or any of those people.

I just hope it concludes without a major incident. There seems to be a ton of security concerns.

Same here, I love it all but figure skating and some of the really long races. It's nice to have something to look forward to where I can cheer for someone to win for the next few weeks (and probably months since DVR everything).

My girlfriend works in PR, and went to the Vancouver games. I was very relieved when she told me her company wasn't sending her to Russia this time around. Part of it was money, and the other part was security concerns. She was kind of bummed at first, but as more and more reports come in like these of the shoddy living conditions she's glad she stayed home.

Yeah I don't blame you. I see Budweiser pulled all of their plans to go there.

I feel like a lot of these concerns are being played up for political reasons and that there is an active effort to sabotage the Sochi Olympics for Russia. I was watching the local news last night and they had a reporter over in Sochi and they asked her about all these horror stories and she didn't experience any of them. Said the security was actually fairly lax, compared it to the TSA which I had snort at.

Between not being ready to host the games and the fact that there are very, very few tourists going to the games, this is going to be a massive embarrassment for Russia and more specifically Putin. Should be entertaining to see how he tries to spin this.
