Or are you from other parts?

SA seems to have a mostly large online presence from the city itself. Haven't found any other Spurs fans in the UK :(

Yee haw. I'm cowboy but the Canadian kind.

It actually seems like most of our posters here are from around the world.

I live in Detroit, but loved the Spurs from back in the George Gervin days... People around here hated me when we beat the Pistons in 7 :D

Cowboys? I'm pretty sure the majority of people in San Antonio are Hispanic.

I'm Chinese, born in Indonesia. Started watching the Spurs during 94 or 95 I think when Sean Elliott was a legit allstar with a super quick first step. Also was there during Rodman's years in SA.

What got me about the Spurs is how the whole city is in love with the Spurs. Yes, it's the only major sport in the city, but you could see the love for the Spurs everywhere. First time I got there, I'm like what the hell is a Spur. I didn't even play basketball before I got to SA. From then on, I started learning and watching basketball, and has been a basketball geek ever since.

Also haven't found any other Spurs fan in Indonesia. I might actually be the only Spurs fan in the country.

Thing is with the Spurs, unless you actually have connections with the city, you don't usually become a Spurs fan.

Most NBA fans here are what we call bandwagon-ers. They like the Heat, and you know that's because of Lebron. And if you're currently not a Heat fan, you're likely to be a Lakers fan, because of Kobe. But i don't know anybody who is a Knicks fan. Or even an OKC fan despite Durant being there.

It is basically a Big City team with a Big Time Player. Some people who don't follow the NBA, but loves basketball, actually thinks Michael Jordan still plays for the Chicago Bulls. WTF?

Don't ruin my dream
San Antonio = COWBOYS!

I like the diversity here. More than i thought :D

Most of the people i know who watch ball over here only watch the heat, last season both pissed me off and made me laugh an extraordinary amount. Some of them didn't even realise the heat won ffs

The dream is to go see them @ the AT&T one day, buy me a cowboy hat, hire a mariachi band (don't ask me how) and just wonder the city whilst cursing out the hot weather.

ahhhhh the dream.

I'm more interested in what makes you guys become Spurs fans (of all teams).

For me, I was in USA for 4 years and I spent it all in San Antonio. If that didn't happen, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be a Spurs fan.

My sister is also a Spurs fan because he thought Sean Elliott was handsome and ofcourse because he lives there with me. Everybody in San Antonio follows the Spurs. And I really mean everybody.

The Korean guy on my ESL class. Even the one from Iran.
The dishwasher on the chinese restaurant I worked in.
My then 79 year old grandma.
The bus driver in school.

I mean.. everybody. Would've had a much harder time finding people who don't follow the Spurs in San Antonio.

But I see a lot of my friends here in Indonesia who don't even have the Spurs as their top favorite teams and I understand. You guys.. I'm curious about. We got a Canadian here.. an Australian.. another from UK.

My guess, you guys are just weird and can't find other stuff to be "unique" on. We all want to be unique. lol.

The Spurs play good basketball. They move without the ball and cut to the basket, use screens and run nice plays. Most of the league tries to dunk or chuck three's over and over and refuse to even try to play defense.
Most true basketball fans love the Spurs brand of ball. Other people who only view the NBA as entertainment feel the Spurs are boring because they know nothing about basketball and only care what the stars are doing or how often they are getting arrested.

They were the first team i ever saw. It was about 2am back when terrestrial TV had the rights to show 3 live games a week. I think i was 12 or something, **** school the next day. Loved the black and silver and a certain Argentinian dude (this was when he had hair ). And then the next game i saw Duncan play, and that was that.

Pretty simple really. As i've gotten older i've come to appreciate the way they play ball a lot more (as my understanding of the game got better). I did go through a spell of not watching any basketball because the place i was living in had no cable and my internet connection was terrible so i couldn't stream anything :(

Spurs fan from Brazil here

And I completely agree with this

"Most true basketball fans love the Spurs brand of ball. Other people who only view the NBA as entertainment feel the Spurs are boring because they know nothing about basketball and only care what the stars are doing or how often they are getting arrested."
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

Most true basketball fans who watch the Spurs play this past few years will obviously love watching the Spurs, but that doesn't usually get people to jump on the Spurs bandwagon and become our fans. Otherwise, there's only about 5 TRUE BASKETBALL fans in RealGM.

Also, I would argue that the Spurs style of ball just become like this only recently. Early 2000s was mainly 4 down. There was more of a mix in mid 2000s but even then, it was mostly a defensive juggernout. It is only recently that the Spurs started to bring in more offensive help as the big three gets older.

I can't remember the year, but there was a time late in 2000s that all we have is a big 3 and a whole bunch of role players. Manu got hurt in the playoffs and we lost, that had Parker coming out on papers saying we need more talent. If I'm not mistaken, the next year we bring in the Richard Jefferson failed experiment. Since then, we started bringing in more offensively talented guys to help the big 3.

Anyways, props to you guys who became Spurs fans just because of watching the Spurs play once. I'm sure you guys are like 1 in every 5 million.

Well, I guess I fill a stereotype. Born in Texas, grew up in San Antonio. My first game in person had a lineup of Rod Strickland, Willie Anderson, Sean Elliot, Terry Cummings, and David Robinson. Been a fun ride. Worried what happens after Duncan, I was too young for pre-Admiral. I can't imagine what it was like hoping Cadillac Anderson was the answer.

I'm hoping we ring this year and next, Tim/Manu/Pop go out on top. Jahlil Okafor makes the unpopular decision to play two years in college and we get him in the 2016 Draft... But that scenario would probably have a .0000001% chance of playing out.

Born and raised in San Antonio...my dad took me to my first Spurs game in 1977 or 1978 at the old Hemisfair Arena...obstructed views and the bleachers constantly moving because the place was rocking....good times.. :-D

I am not a Spurs fan. However, the Spurs have the privilege of being 80 miles away from Austin. As a consequence they have built quite the following in Austin. Also I am not a cowboy.

I have lived in or within 50 miles of San Antonio all my 72 years. Grew up on a farm. Did have horses and cattle, so I guess some people would call it a ranch. I have been a Spurs fan back when they were still in the ABA. Some of the players my first game were Coby Dietrick, George Gervin, George Karl, Swen Nater, and James Silas. Been an avid fan ever since. Am new to RealGM. Been on other sites, but thought I would give this one a try. Like it so far.
