Re: The Trade Thread
What could we get if we just cleared the deck and dealt all of Monroe/Smith/Jennings?
Kyrie/Jack/Clark/Gee/Miles for Monroe/Smith/Jennings - Cavs end the Kyrie nightmare scenario and build a deep squad.
Rondo/Humphries/Bass for Monroe/Smith/Jennings - Celtics save money this year
Westbrook/Perkins for Monroe/Smith/Jennings/Singler/future pick
As far as I'm concerned we need to hit the reset and focus on getting a young perimeter star next to Drummond. Everyone else (except maybe KCP) is bait in my mind.

If we could get a superstar for a package with Monroe in it, I'll trade him, if not, I prefer keep him here. But a healthy superstar, not Rose, Rondo or Westbrook (I mean, if they can prove they're healthy, I'll trade for them)

We blew our shot at that by not flipping him for Harden.
I really would like to see Moose and Drummond get a chance to grow together but I'm concerned that Monroe may be close to his ceiling already. He's awful defensively and doesn't appear to have the instincts to overcome his lack of athleticism. Drummond is our rim protector so we need Moose to be able to guard the opponents primary post scorer to free up Drummond to roam and I don't see that happening. He really needs to develop an outside shot to truly be a nice pairing with Drummond.
The frustrating thing is I still absolutely believe we'd be fine if we just played two of Drummond/Monroe/Smith at a time and put 2 3&d guys around a dominant perimeter scorer.

Re: The Trade Thread
On the trade board, there are some people suggesting that we could send Smith to Phonix for Okafor's expiring and one of their picks (Indy's or their own). I'd jump on that so fast.
Use the money to pay Monroe and add Deng. Maybe we can ship out some of our trash (JJ, Bynum, Datome) or even Jennings and make room for Lowry too?
Lowry/Pope/Deng/Monroe/Drummond
Siva/scrub/Singler/Mitchell/Jorts
Chauncey retires and moves into the FO/joins the coaching staff with SHEED.
We could use that bottom first-rounder to add a bench player. Our bench would certainly blow, but man would that starting lineup be nice, huh? Especially with some development, sane coaching, the new-found spacing...
A guy can dream, right?

Take a look on the match we won to the Pacers... Monroe is a good post defender, he destroyed Hibbert with his defense.

Re: The Trade Thread
You guys think Denver would do this?
Monroe, Bynum
for
Faried, Andre Miller
I know Faried isn't much better of a defender than Monroe, but I think he has a higher ceiling. Think Andre would be perfect here, finally a point guard who can make an entry pass into the post.

Denver would do it, I would pray Detroit wouldn't. Faried has been a giant stinking turd this season. I have him on my fantasy team and I can't trade him for peanuts. He's inferior to Monroe across the board.

Re: The Trade Thread
I think if Faried played 30 mins a game like Monroe he would post equal or better numbers.
He is clearly more athletic, gets more blocks, and more rebounds per 48 mins. Only thing that scares me is that he can't hit a 15 footer or a free throw.
Also think a Drummond/Faried combo would put more fans in the seats. I live in Denver, and the fans here love Kenneth to death.
I think we can do better in a trade involving Monroe, but I would rather take this trade than spend big money on Greg this summer.

Man, Lowry and Deng on this team along with keeping the twin towers intact. Sign me up, that's a real playoff team.Notanoob wrote:On the trade board, there are some people suggesting that we could send Smith to Phonix for Okafor's expiring and one of their picks (Indy's or their own). If we could trade smith for expirings and sign deng, I'd be a very happy camper.

If we signed Deng at SF we would still have spacing problems. We'd be better off with a guy like Ariza. We need a shooter period and Deng is shooting 29% from deep this season.

That's right, Lowry-KCP-Ariza would be awesome in 3&D.

Re: The Trade Thread
I'm not sure if this was stated, but the Suns did try to get Josh Smith at last years deadline, perhaps this year we give them their wish...
Detroit Sends:
Josh Smith
Suns Send:
Emeka Okafor.
nothing/possible pick
-----------------------------------------------
I really don't think we're going to trade Monroe at the deadline unless it's for something really special, like rondo or beal or, I hope not, Gordon. I think there are maybe 3 teams out there, with a possible 4th being the crazy nets, that would take on Josh Smith and give either assets or expiring deals. I guess we will know soon enough... and maybe it's just wishful thinking...

Re: The Trade Thread
We'd still have spacing issues, but we'd also have elite (of at least really good) defenders at every position except power forward. Ariza would be good too, but Wiz fans are convinced that Wall is just making him look good, and Jennings wouldn't be setting him up the same way. Still, I'd prefer either to Smith at SF.
And Lowry has just been great this year excellent defense and solid shooting from beyond the ark.

Re: The Trade Thread
Going with the premise that Josh Smith the prefered trade deficit (not asset) is unmovable we go back to options for Monroe... but why does it have to be for a downgrade?
There are three teams that need a starting center and will have a hard time landing him in the draft or free agency...
Option #1
Out: Monroe, future 1st, Stuckey & CV
In: Eric Gordon, Anthony Davis
This would be a tough sell but N.O. is more likely to land a quality PF (or Anderson) than a top tier center ... this would be a big step in helping their future cap options
Option #2
Out: Monroe, Stuckey, CV
In: Ibaka, Perkins
At some point in time they need to fill their low post needs and address their salary issues
Ibaka provides better range and defense at the 4
Option #3
Out: Monroe
In: Kawhi Leonard, 1st rounder

Re: The Trade Thread
I'm not a Pistons fan (a Bulls fan, actually) but I also am in the "Josh Smith is untradable" camp. At least not tradable for a positive return, given his contract.
So that means moving Monroe, and playing Smith at the 4.
The most natural fit is Philly, IMO. They could send Thadeous Young, Evan Turner and Arnett Moultrie for Monroe and Villanueva's expiring. I doubt that they'd relinquish their pick or the Pelican's pick, though.
It might also be possible to get Pheonix involved if they like the Sixer's Spencer Hawes, Stuckey, or Evan Turner. You can design things to send one of the mid round picks that the Suns will likely have the rights to (Minnesota's, Washington's, their own) coming to Detroit - with Turner coming in and Stuckey going to Phoenix, or Turner going to Phoenix and Stuckey not going anywhere.
I think Thadeous Young would make a lot of sense for Detroit. Mature player. Can play the 3 or 4, either next to or subbing for Josh Smith. His 3 pt shot blossomed this year, so spacing wouldn't be as bad. Adding Moultrie as a talented but young/raw reserve wouldn't hurt.
And then Turner would help at the 2/3, if he comes in.

I really do like Smith, but not as a SF. If it comes down to Monroe and Smith, I take Monroe. Thus, package Smith with Stuckey, CV, Jerebko, Datome or anyone not named Drummond or Monroe for a good deal you can get.
