A ridiculous (-ly great) article by Kelly explaining how Toronto was revamped by Leiweke.

http://www.thestar.com/sports/soccer/20 ... kelly.html

In MLSE CEO Tim Leiweke’s first job interview, he asked the heads of Bell and Rogers if they’d be willing to stake him on a big soccer purchase.
“A Beckham deal,” he told them.
When they said, “Yes,” Leiweke agreed to take the job.

TFC won their first pre-season game on a late goal by Bright Dike tonight against DC United. Good news that Laba and Dike are still here for now.

Best preseason game TFC has ever had, honestly. We are never looked this organized this early.

I really hope they find a way to keep Laba.

You were actually able to follow the action even though it was so foggy?

Fog wasn't an issue, the stream had major lag though.

I followed most of it though pretty closely. Our midfield was fantastic for just game 1.

Rumour now is that it's for the season, but I bet he won't be back after World Cup unless he really is enjoying his time here.

He has a contract with a team that will not play him so they are loaning him out so he can play before the world up.

I don't actually like this move. He has been an average keeper for a few years now.

At the very worst he is a keeper with world class experience and that is worth something. Average keeper in Europe = / > good keeper in the MLS.

QPR was relegated and don't want to pay Cesar that much money when a cheaper keeper would do the job and they have tried to move him twice already so I am sure he is fed up there. I agree he is not as good as he used to be but is definitely an upgrade over whoever we had and when I thought it wasn't possible this upcoming MLS season just got more exciting.

I do not like Cesar at all and have thought he was overrated since his last year at Inter.

Cesar is still a top keeper (though he is an Inter guy and it will suck to cheer for him).

He wasn't played at QPR due to his wages. QPR went out last season and spent a boat load of money, only to get relegated. Cesar and our current coach Ryan Nelsen were 2 of the bright spots there last season. However, with the same bloated contracts now in the Championship, QPR needs to shed Cesar's salary. Cesar needs to play before the World Cup, and called his old buddy Ryan Nelsen to see if a spot was available for him here - rest assured the rest of the soccer world knows what has been going on in Toronto.

It's hard to move goalkeepers during the Winter transfer window in the middle of the season. He will likely be shopped in the August transfer window. If proceeds from that go to TFC, they can then turn around and pay down Laba's cap hit. If Laba is loaned out before the season and not sold, it gives the impression that the team will be looking for allocation to try and bring him back in the summer under the cap.

All in all, a good move - though the Inter stench kind of ruins it.
