It has yet to be seen if Asik is welcome to happily accept a decreased role for the benefit of the team, but if he does, then Morey definitely made the right decision.

Is it that they're NOT trading him...or they CAN'T trade him because they won't get anything reasonable in return.

This isn't a secret, Morey said as much. If Asik was happy with a bench role Morey wouldn't be trying to trade him.

I think Morey pretended to help Asik out by trading the big man to another team but finally his choice forced Asik to stay 1 more year. This is what I meant when I said "he loves Asik". He just can't live without his lover! Imagine this team without a back-up center, as I expect, would be swept by any team in the 2nd rd.

Hope Asik recovers soon and plays backup C.

Still think he'll be moved. Just my opinion.

Does ownership really want to pay Lin and Asik $30mill next year? That's insane for two role players.

That's one thing that you fans fom other teams just don't understand. It wouldn't be like a extra 30 million for Houston, it would simply be the last year of two 3yr/25mil contracts. The Rockets don't pay a dime more.

Average fans have no clue how cap and salary works. But it's convenient to use when "OMG that guy is so OVERPAID!!!!" rhetoric.

Asik will be moved when he is moved. He is small potatoes. People need to look at a team like the Brooklyn Nets to gain some perspective about contracts and luxury tax and cap space.

Also a guy like Bargnani had no trouble getting moved. People blowing up about a 8mil a year player like Asik. lol.

Imagine when fans learn about how profit sharing and team salary minimum works?

Asik is not small potatoes. He was one of the best defensive bigs last year and would help our team tremendously if he played nice. He hasn't though so I fully expect him to be traded at the deadline if Morey can get anything of value in return.

If Morey can't get anything this year, Asik is basically forced to play for us next year due to it being his contract year.

Supply and demand.

Tanking is currently a cancer in the NBA. Also, how many teams actually want to win games?

NY Knicks is currently the most profitable team in the NBA. Bulls, Nets, Celtics, Lakers all have terrible records but yet making huge profits.

Asik can help a winning team make a push in the playoffs and win a championship. However, there are so few teams that need Asik, the demand is just not there because of the current Tanking culture. Asik also doesn't bring in any fans, he has little to no star power.

Asik is just as good staying or leaving Houston. There are only about 6 to 8 legitimate teams. The majority of the league are positioning for capspace and Lottery.

I disagree. Basically everybody in the east has a chance at the playoffs LOL. In the West it's going to be a dogfight for the last few spots as well. You underestimate how even getting into the playoffs can affect a franchise, and not just from a revenue standpoint. Trade deadline deals to make a last ditch play-off push happens year after year.

IMO if Asik was actually playing nice and producing on the court, he would already been traded. The whole situation of him pouting on the sidelines is what has severely hampered his trade value. Its give HOU much less leverage in negotiations since he's not helping the team.

I have no issue standing corrected, but aren't they both due $15mill next season? I understand it only "counts" against the cap but ownership is still paying it, right?

Yeah but by that same token you can also say ownership only had to pay them ~$5M the first two seasons. Does that suddenly make them a "steal" for those two years? In reality it benefits ownership to backload contracts since they could earn interest from the money saved from the front-end.

It's generally just better to think about the cap hits because that is the main cost-related consideration when constructing a roster.

LOL at people worried about owner's money. Like as if owners worry about the fans when they jack up prices for tickets and food.

Oh no, think about the poor owners!

Yeah, that quote never has any affect when a new stadium bond proposal is put forth to taxpayers, either.

Chance it has an effect in mere argument as opposed to when everyones' wallets are being opened?
I'd say 0%.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?

It is more like Morey asking too much for Asik. Didn't Morey want two 1st round picks + extra and want the other team to pay Asik's lump sump payment?
