I posted this in the trade thread, but this thread is probably more appropriate...

If the Knicks want Rondo they need to start by stop being silly and thinking that a Stoudemire based package with no picks will do. What they need to do is get a 3rd and possibly 4th team involved where they can move Chandler to to get what Ainge is looking for in a Rondo trade to Boston. I would doubt honestly that a completely inexperienced GM like Mills and a dullard like Dolan has the mental aptitude to accomplish this.

Here's basically what likely is happening in the offices high above Madison Square Garden....

Dolan: "Hey Steve, Melo just called me and told me he wanted a 'Rojohn Rando' on this team...so make it happen."
Mills: "Yes Mr. Dolan....uhh...do you know what team he's on?"
Dolan: "I don't know! I think the Red Sox?"
Mills: "but I thought the Red Sox are a baseball team?"

...awkward silence...

Dolan: "dang it Mills, use the internet and find out! What do I look like?!? An expert in basketball?!?"

...a half hour and several, SEVERAL clicks of the keyboard later...Mills and Dolan huddled over a computer screen...

Dolan: "Celtics!!! I was close!"
Dolan: "that's Danny Ainges team. Get Ainge on the phone and see what you can do. If Melo wants Rando...get him Rando."

...several more agonizing minutes spent finding Ainges number...do... doo...do..do..do...ring...ring...click...

Mills: "Hi...Danny? Steve Mills from the Knicks here."
Ainge: "hi Steve from the Knicks...what can I do for you?"
Mills: "Mr. Dolan told me to call you about a Rajohn Rando. We'd like to trade for him."
Ainge: "I don't know, Steve, I'm familiar with your team quite well and I don't think you have the assets that I'm looking for to make a deal work."
Mills: "I was told to offer Amare Stoudemire...and also take big contracts or whatever from you."
Ainge: "I'm sorry Steve but I really don't want Stat...his contract is huge and uninsured and he's a shell of his former self."
Mills: "Really? I didn't know that."

...several seconds of silence...

Ainge: "I need multiple draft picks along with Hardaway and JTy to begin conversations."
Mills: "can you repeat that Danny, my pencil broke...all I got was Harda something"
Ainge: "multiple draft picks, Tim Hardaway Junior and Jeremy Tyler"
Mills: "...and Jeremy Tyler...got it"
Ainge: "ok, I gotta go Steve, I got Phoenix on the other line..."
Mills: "ok...I gotta see if Mr. Dolan wants to give you our draft picks for this year and next year..."

...more silence other end of the phone...followed by a faint chuckle...

Ainge: "ok Steve, you do that...gotta go..bye...bye.."

...mills calls Dolans office...Dolans secretary Marge picks up the phone...

Mills: "hi Marge...is Mr. Dolan in...I got this deal almost done...all it takes is for Mr. Dolan to agree to send Boston this year and next years draft picks"
Marge: "he's out getting a slushy....but we don't have our draft pick this year...and even if we did you can't trade consecutive 1st round picks"

...more silence...

Mills: "uh...really?"
Marge: "Yeah. Really."
Mills: "uh. Ok. Thanks Marge."
Marge: "good bye Steve."

...Mills stares several more agonizing minutes at the computer...

Mills: "Dang it now! This job is so hard!"

That is not how it went

It's more likely than Rondo going to NY. The Knicks don't have the assets to trade for Rondo.

Rondo could be traded, but only if equal talent comes back. Ainge isn't trading Rondo anywhere for a player of lesser value or for a salary dump. He can trade off other players for that.

I'm fully aware of that. ainge isn't an idiot. trading melo to boston would be a plausible if our team wasn't owned by a middle aged child. our team's brain trust is on the "your brain on drugs" side of the "this is your brain, this is your brain on drugs" scenario.

My thought about equal talent wasn't aimed at you- that was unclear on my part. It was just aimed at the general thread.

We're in agreement on everything here.

First of all- knick fans didn't start the rondo rumors. 2nd, most knick fans don't hold rondo in high regard anyway so don't flatter yourself and third, whether you want to acknowledge it or not- rondos injury decreases his value- period!

Now I'm done with this silly back and forth. For the final and last time I NEVER said that rondo will become rose. All I said was he had a serious injury and surgery to his knee and no one can guarantee that he doesn't follow roses "knee health path"

Some of you love to create conflict-its the reason I don't post as often...

It's ridiculous cause there are just as many, if not more guys who suffer a big time leg injury and go through the recovery process and never see an injury like that again. But only the negatives count for people here.

And if the Knicks fans don't hold Rondo in high regard, I feel bad for you guys...because the team doesn't have the assets to acquire a player who they don't think is anything special. Which is rough,

Gotta agree, we do kinda go extreme with our scenarios, even when they dont apply.

Rondo doesnt run full speed and attack the rim like Rose does...and hasnt had a dual knee injury.

i would compare Rondo to Jason Kidd...who went on to play and be pretty reliable for a long time after his knee surgery.

the play style imo will determine how long Rondo can play.

Also I am at the point where I don't think adding Rondo would fix all the problems on this team and make us contenders. I'd rather wait till 2015 till we can sign Rondo outright, then trade our assets for 1.5 years of Rondo

Smart man. I don't wanna give up any picks. Just Chandler Shump and MWP

Melo wants to play with Rondo?

Here is an idea: Melo for Boston's crap plus their 2014 pick plus couple more picks.

I think they can probably have their cake and eat it too. They have 46 million on the books as of now. There are some rumors about Atlanta being interested in Jeff Green. With salary cap around 62.5, they might get Melo through FA if they can dump him for expiring contracts.

Why does it have to be Rondo? There is zero chance of Ainge helping the Knicks unless we are sending him a superstar plus picks. Ainge isnt going to trade that guy because it would make it harder to sign free agents without him. Boston is not a free agent hotspot. He wants draft picks and can wait out the salaries on contracts because they are rebuilding. The organization is not cheap and their owners are not idiots. I just think this is a media driven story to get clicks. We have one decent asset THJr that is it and he is worth at best a 10-15 pick. Felton garbage with a PO
JR cancer with a PO
Tyson/Amare/Bargs overpaid for production, injury prone and not expiring
(Melo-not getting traded)
Shump isnt worth first rounder at this point he has been terrible this year

if we ever acquired the resources to be able to trade for rondo i'd think they'd be much better spent on one of the phx pgs. assuming one of them ever becomes unavailable\wants to leave

And how many of those guys 'who suffered a big time leg injury and gone on through the recovery process and never seen an injury like that again' played for the Knicks? See., we don't have a good track record with them guys. Oh., we made PLENTY of trades to acquire these players and never been a time where we didn't regret it. So., you can go ahead and cite the names of those who recovered from major knee surgery that went on to have very productive careers. Hell., why don't Boston go and make some acquisitions for these players and then come talk to me about how they "never seen an injury like that again."

I'm sorry to say but the Knicks need other GMs to protect them from their own selves. If the Knicks had the pieces in place to acquire Rondo., Multiple Draft Picks, huge expiring contracts., fresh young talent and room to take back crap., they'd do it. :nonono: Two years later the largest case of mass suicide (us Knick fans plus one homicde., Dolan) in global history.

We don't have the assets to acquire Rondo? I wish to high heavens that we had less assets. Its the only way I'd feel safe. Either that or depend on Ainge to continue overvaluing his "Star Player". I don't see that happening after the end of this season.

Already lost Hoffman to drugs, let's not make it more with the optimistic posters in this thread.

Knicks FO loves it some damaged goods but let's get serious. Rondo isn't coming over and saving the season.
