If Gores is waiting until the offseason because he doesn't want to publicly shame Dumars, he missed a golden opportunity yesterday. Not only would doing it with Cheeks have lessened the attention on Joe, but you also have these stories about the gay football player and Marcus Smart that are dominating the media today, to where no one would care about Dumars if he were relieved of his duties. Because no one is really talking about Cheeks anymore either, with all these other stories taking precedence.

I don't really get what Gores is doing here. Based on his statement, he said he still has playoff expectations for the season, but they "require a different approach" than Cheeks at this time. Were they really all sitting around thinking John Loyer is the approach they need right now? I understand not believing Cheeks, but if you still have playoff goals, I don't understand believing John Loyer gives you a better chance to get there than some of the other coach's like Hollins and Karl.

If it is Dumars' situation that is keeping them from hiring a new coach, they could've solved that yesterday as mentioned above, and if they are waiting just to use him for trades, is it really wise to have a guy making major trades who is angry at you over Cheeks and knows he is next?

I don't know, I'm glad Cheeks is done, but this only seems to have created more confusion and instability than already was. Plus it seems stupid to wait until the offseason for other suitors to line up as competition when you could hire Hollins right now. He's the #1 candidate on the market & fits perfect, and he said he's interested in the job. In response, Gores says "thanks but we want to give John Loyer a chance first...we'll get back to you in the summer." They already insulted Hollins once by offering him an assistants job, and now they are doing it again by essentially saying John Loyer is more important than him. I mean, this is ridiculous.

The other thing that concerns me about keeping Loyer the rest of they year is that almost anyone taking over is going to look good compared to Cheeks. So if they go on to have some success now with Loyer, I worry that Gores will just keep him longterm. Who knows, he might be a hidden coaching gem, which would be great, but I just don't want Gores to get fooled by a couple months worth of games.
