Wizards 2nd Half Predictions

Post#1 » by dlts20 » Thu Feb 13, 2014 11:47 pm

There are exactly 30 games left and we are currently 2 games under .500

I looked at our sked and we have played the 3rd hardest sked in the East so far and barely just behind #2 BKL. I also looked at the remaing sked and its a cake walk (which means we will be .500 at best.......lol). There is no excuse with the sked we have left. We will be fully healthy with Al & Rice back, we will have all the All Star distractions behind us, Wall & Beal should feel more confident after that, and we will be in the playoff hunt for the 1st time in forever. The only team a good deal ahead of us for 3rd is the Raps and we play them twice in our first 6 games so we can makeup ground very quickly.

So what are your predictions? Talk about anything you want whether it be predicting our record, how we will do in the playoffs, trades, coach or GM firings, player development or whatever. Will Wall take it to another level like last year? Wll Beal finish strong? Will Nene hold up. Will Harrington help. Will adding a backup PG be huge for us? Will a playoff chase save Witt & EG or are one or both done? Will we win a series and could we give Mia or Ind a go in round 2? etc, etc.........

I think they'll stumble in the playoffs as a 7 seed. They'll win one game against Miami, and Ted will sell that as "progress." Grunfeld and Wittman are retained. Ariza gets a 4 year, 36 mil contract. Gortat gets 4 years/44 mil.

Wittman gets fired midseason of next year.

I wont make any predictions right now but I will say that if we were to make the playoffs, I would want to play the Knicks in the 1st round and if not them then BKN.

If you ask me just in terms of being easy or a team I hate then I would say the Raps. Im not buying them in the playoffs with no Superstar and their fans are super cocky so I would love more than anything to beat them but in the era of the big 3 when going to our 1st playoffs I said I wanted the Cavs. Why? Because I want excitiment and exposure. Nothing was going to be bigger then Lebron in the playoffs and I knew the media would be all over it. We lost because of the sucky refs but we got a ton of press and we werent going to win a title anyways so I wasnt worried about having a easy team to get to round 2.

Thats why I want the Knicks. They are by far the most media friendly team of the group. Maybe Chicago with Rose but I dont see him coming back. The only other team close is BK so they would be next. If we play the Raps, Atl, Det, etc.... it will be the most boring covered series in the playoffs and guys like Barkley will make jokes about showing us. We will also get all of the NBA TV games that are available but if its NY then we will always be on TNT or ESPN with a ton of coverage. I know some may say we can get the exposure in the 2nd round against Mia or Ind but I say get it both rounds because we still have a chance. Besides, if we lose then its still great because it means Witt is definitely gone and probably so is EG

We will finish as a 3rd seed. Wall and Beal will play even better and with much more confidence after winning the Rising Stars MVP, 3 Point Shootout, Dunk Contest and All-Star MVP

Well we have threads for a lot of those different things but predicting the 2nd half is a good topic.

I predict.... Wait... Is Randy the coach still for the 2nd half or do we have a new coach ? Hmm. I guess that would be one of the predictions. Let me consult an online magic eightball.

http://eightball.tridelphia.net/

Will the wizards have a new coach ?
Answer was.... It is curtain..

Interesting.

Hmm. I didn't ask when and I might not have specified which Wizards. Let me try again.

Will the washington wizards have a new head coach after the all star break 2014
Answer. As I see it, Yes

Very interesting. Very interesting indeed.

I have to wait and see what trade we make and see if we get a new HC over the break. That would change my predictions.

Good points about the media coverage. Plus I bet we play up to the media coverage. Plus I would want to play the older team vs the more athletic teams. And how about Wizards vs Lap Dance Wednesday Dray. That would be a great story.

I wouldn't want to play Chicago. Tibbs is a beast.
I think ATL will continue to fall in the ranking. Without Horford they should be easier to beat. Let see if they even make though.

I think Brooklyn would be a good first series.

That said, I have ZERO confidence in them as long as they have Randy as the HC. Playoffs take adjustments. Randy doesn't do that well.

They'll make a move that helps them in the second half and will finish between 4-6. Randy and Ernie will walk after Leonsis offer them what they consider an insulting deal...Sheppard gets promoted and George Karl comes in with final say,,,,

people only walk when they can get other jobs. No one is definitely going to hire Witt as a head coach. Ernie might get a job but thats getting more doubtful each second. I think Witt so cherrishes this job right now

I think we trade expiring contracts for a Brandon Bass type of player to strengthen our frontcourt. We will play well down the stretch because that's what the team has done for 2 years now and also because we will play a lot of tanking or resting teams. I think we finish 2 or 3 games above .500 and get the #4 seed. (Toronto will get the #3 seed unless they trade Lowry. Chicago is going to falter down the stretch.)

We need to avoid facing Toronto or Indiana in the playoffs. They own us. The ideal scenario would be to face Atlanta or Brooklyn in the first round, and Miami in the 2nd. We can't beat Miami, but we could win a few games.

Actually, I would think that bolstering our bench would bring bigger returns than 2-3 games over .500 by the end of the year. And it would almost have to since we're going to have to get to 3rd to face Miami in the second round. I definitely think it's doable, though.

Getting to 3 games over 0.500 would mean being +5 over 30 games. That is a 0.600 win percentage, basically doing as well as the Mavericks have been this season. That would be a significant improvement over the Wizards current season, and also assumes the trade was done immediately.

I think the Wizards end up as the 4th seed. I don't think they can catch Toronto unless Toronto has a collapse. I think the Bulls and Hawks will decline down the stretch. I think EG will make a deal to improve depth. My hope would be dealing Ariza for a couple youngish players, which might mean only getting the 5th or 6th seed, but setting the team up better long term. My expectation is expirings and Rice or a 2nd round for a Brandon Bass like player, which helps some this season, but sacrifices future flexibility and assets.

.500 all the way this season (42-42)

It will be 4th/5th place, but it doesn't matter at all, 2nd round is the finish line for this team. Can't see us beating Indiana/Miami in the best to 4 run.

if harrington comes back healthy and in form, i expect the 2nd half will be better because he's an experienced 4th quarter contributor - an area of need for the wiz

Six-game win streak to end the season brings them to 44-38.
