If in some bizarro world our joke of a mgmt team was able to pry Deng away, I would immediately make him the Point Forward a la Pippen. The dude is a very skilled and willing passer. He also played at his best when he gets to run the offense.

Both teams offering a 3rd Rounder

Glen Rice JR was one of my picks for us. I think this dude can be a very solid player in the NBA. Just been injured. If you look at his clips from last year this dude was an absolute monster in the D League

A good move that no one do b/c Shump is apparently the next MJ is sending him to OKC for a pick and Collison. We've seen Shump before - he was called Anthony Randolph back then. Great defensive tools, oozing with potential, absolute idiot and never developed his game.

Shumpert has done way more than Anthony Randolph, in a far less time period.

That's debatable. Randolph had some big games his first few years.

capspace shouldn't be our only priority. if your giving up a first round pick to clear some, it's already a loss.

If the Knicks can clear all their current cap off the books, absolutely I can see Carmelo and Lebron teaming up in NY.

that's the same predicament we had in 2010. i was totally against it then and I'm against it now. if it's something they are serious about doing, they should take their player options this summer and team up in 2015.

IF the Knicks FO were crafty enough to be able to move all their capspace off, I think that would show to someone like Lebron that they aren't as impotent as they may be. So what does it really matter this year or next year? And the problem with 2010 was that they only had room for 1 player...in this scenario they would have room for 2.

in 2010 we had room for one and we made room for two with the same idea. it wasn't enough to get him here. I'm a "fool me once, shame on you" kinda guy. I'd rather not get burned that way again.

But we didn't. We only had capspace for one player...they used it to sign Amare Stoudemire. They traded for Anthony using a lot of contracts to fit it under the cap.

I think we have to consider trading with Hou for Asik and or Lin. Not many teams will be interested in them with that bump next season but NY can afford it. I'm sure Hou also doesn't want to pay $15k each for a back up C and back up combo guard.

My only caveat is that it has to be Shump going not THJR. And either Felton and/or Smith go too to make up for the horrible contracts in 2014/15

If we can make the trade while keeping TC it frees up.a trade for him too.

I also still like Smith for Fredette and Thornton concept.

For any trade looks like a few teams would take Udrich to provide perhaps a 2nd rnder or something.

maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but i recall the t-mac trade being made to clear capsace for a second max cat. they signed and traded lee to gsw for assorted stiffs after getting stat via s&t. maybe it wasn't a full max, but it was something like 15 mill before the t-mac trade.

You're rt. we had room for 2 max contracts. We didn't have room for 3 b/c of Eddy E-City Curry

Celo wrote:So this is my first proposal, hope I don't get flamed too much ;-)

I don't like multi-team trades, nonetheless I'll give it a try.

New York Knicks
In: Luol Deng
Out: Iman Shumpert, Andrea Bargnani

Cleveland Cavaliers
In: Iman Shumpert, Ben Gordon (expiring)
Out: Luol Deng

Detroit Pistons
In: Andrea Bargnani
Out: Josh Smith

Charlotte Bobcats
In: Josh Smith
Out: Ben Gordon

Why for the Knicks: The Knicks finally get their perfect SF for playing Smallball. They also get rid of Bargani, which opens playtime for Tyler.

Why for the Cavs: They know Deng won't resign, so they'll try to get some assets. Shumpert can either play the 3, or the 2, which makes Dion Waters expendable for another trade.

Why for Detroit: They finally get rid of Josh Smith. More touches for Monroe and Drummond. With Bargnani they are getting a viable Backup Center, whose contract expires 2 years before Josh Smith.

Why for the Cats: They get their upgrade at the 4. Josh Smith tightens their defense, and also gives them another offensive Option compared to McRoberts.

Who says no? The Knicks obviously say yes, and I think the Cavs do so, too. Detroit might want more for Smith, but I don't think his toxic contract has any value in the league. They might prefer to look for a SF to replace him tho. Smith in Charlotte could work, since he would become the 3rd Option on Offense, which means he wouldn't chuck this much. And as mentioned before, he would be a huge upgrade on the defensive end over McRoberts.

I know the chance of resigning Deng is not that big. Nonetheless I'd give it a try, because he its too good of a fit next to Melo. Many of you (me included) don't want to take any salary for 2015. But I think a player of Dengs quality is definitely worth it, especially if there's a chance of signing him for less than he wanted with the Bulls.
