If Minnesota offered Love for Drummond...

Post#1 » by Dre Drummond » Sat Feb 15, 2014 4:14 pm

Minny is once again in the lottery and most people believe Love will be wanting to leave to go to a situation where he can win. He's averaging insane numbers and is definitely a top 10 NBA talent... perhaps top 5 or 6.

Hypothetically, the TWolves call up Joe D wanting to trade Love for Dre (and CV + Jonas to make contracts work). Would you make the move? Would love's perimeter shooting make our front court work? Would it give Moose more room to operate down low? Would it allow Smith to work inside more with Love able to hit from the perimeter?

Right now there are certainly probably only 4 or 5 players in the NBA I'd trade Drummond for, but Love might be one of them.

Would counter with Monroe/Smith for Love/filler.

Love is great at putting up stats, but his great stats have never translated into wins. I would not trade Drummond for Love.

I'm sure they wouldn't want Smith at all.... Monroe/KCP + 3 future unprotected firsts might interest them though it'd really depend on how high they were on Monroe.

If Minny was smart they'd probably sell him to the highest bidder this trade deadline while he still has a lot of value rather than wait it out til when he wants to leave.

This. monroe + smith plus picks ( id give up 2 1st rounders).

Dre + love would give us the ultimate tandem that is a perfect FIT. We'd walk into games and be guaranteed rebound champs - a recipe for close games on a nightly basis and a lot of wins.

Honestly id throw the whole kitchen sink to pair love and drummond together for the next decade.

I'd try to find away to trade Monroe/Smith for Love/filler too. Although, I do wonder how a Smith/Love/Drummond Front court would do.

Edit: I think if Smith was willing to come off the bench that would be a nice big 3.

Too bad Minnesota would laugh at that counter offer.

In fact, that offer is bad enough that offering it might effect future deals with Minnesota.

Of course Drummond/Love would be perfect. Trouble is, if its that amazing a deal for us its typically terrible for them. They get one guy who's not nearly as good as Love who they will have to pay a near-max deal to keep, and one guy who's value is negative.

You're also ignoring that they have a lot of money invested in Pekovic, who doesn't fit with Monroe/Smith much better than our situation.

And I say all of this without bringing up the fact that Smith is, well, revolting.

And if we could make a trade upgrading either backup PG or SG(or somehow both) even better.

Screw that, love is always nursing an injury and he would bolt from here as soon as he gets the chance.

No chance. The fact that the Twolves have yet to make the playoffs in his time as their go to guy is very concerning. His supporting cast isn't by any means bad...Rubio, K-Mart, Pekovic, Rubio, Barea, Brewer...

Hell no.

Drummond can potentially anchor a great defensive team. That's how you win in the playoffs...having that rim protector. And he still gets his points by being a monster on the glass.

Love can't guard a rock.

No.

No, even if we could keep Love.

No, even if Drummond's stats don't change much.

No, even if the above 2 things combined.

Not a chance. Dre will be cheap for two more seasons and then we have his rights, and will likely sign him to a 5-year max contract.

With Love, you're getting him for this season and next, and then he bolts. Not interested. I would do any combination of other players for Love. Drummond is the only one I wouldn't consider trading unless we're getting a top 5 player in return.

The fact that there is a 99.9% chance we have Dre locked up for 7 more seasons is enough to make me excited about the future of this franchise.

There's absolutely no way we trade Drummond unless it's for a super star calibre player who's locked up for 5+ years. Love will be a free agent in 2 years and then bolt for LA. There's no way you trade a player like Drummond for a player who's already decided where they want to play.

Yeah, I got in this exact debate over on the T&T board awhile back. RIght now, Love > Drummond, but Drummond's contract status >>>>>>> Love's contract status. There is no way you trade a player with Drummond's potential for what could be an 18-month rental, no matter who that rental player is. None.

A package of Monroe, expirings, and a boatload of picks, however, is a similar return to what Utah got for Deron and what Denver got for Melo (one true blue-chip young player, cap relief, and draft picks).
