Would You trade our Lotto Pick for Love or Irving?

Post#1 » by leeprettyp » Sat Feb 15, 2014 5:49 pm

If the Cavs or Wolves finally caved in to realizing that both players arent staying long term and gave Mitch and Jim a call requesting a deal center around our lottery pick this year. Of course in Love's case other pieces would need to be added to make the numbers work. Or there's also the option of just waiting it out for him 2015 free agency. In Irving case remember he's still on his rookie contract (extra bonus there). But then again the idea of losing Wiggins, Embiid or Parker maybe too much. What should our F.O. response be?

Me personally, Irving even with his attitude issues is a proven commodity in the NBA. He's ascending and with the right coach could be maybe the 2nd best player on a championship team. I'd SERIOUSLY considered trading the pick for him. Probably not K.Love though

depends on how high our pick is. I'd probably cut it off at a top 3.

probably wouldn't do it for Love since the lakers can just sign him outright in 2015.

if the opportunity came up for irving though, i'd think about it. Irving is under team control til at least 2016 and imo there's no way he'll even be available then. Irving isn't going to take a pay cut to play for the QO for a yr full of risk for his injury prone self, then take another pay cut to sign on a team other than the cavs.

If the lakers trade for him though, he's on the books for a miniscule 7 mil this summer, meaning it gives the lakers one heck of a chance to go after someone like melo and create a trio of melo/kobe/irving, with kobe coming off the books two yrs later giving the lakers a chance to reload again around irving/melo.

as long as melo is making pau money and not kobe money, i can see it being an option the lakers would consider.

I don't see the point for Love when you can sign him in 2015. I would do it for Irving if the pick is not in the top 5.

As docks said it,we'd have to be absolute morons to even entertain a deal for Love since we can sign him next year...
so dont even worth considering that option

As for Irving....I assume we'll get a top 4 pick looking at our record/future schedule....so hell no

If we fall out of the top 5 it's a maybe

Id do it no question. Theyre proven ballers who are young and full of potential, especially Kyrie. Thats more of an assurance than any of the guys coming in regardless of how big their upside might be. that assurance is worth it so HELL YES.

Both our injury prone. Depends on where our pick is. If it means Embiid and we somehow get another lottery pick such as smart or exem I would say no. Then again I may trade one lotto pick (if we somehow had two :D ) for Love.

If our pick is top 2, I wouldn't consider it. 3... maybeeeeeeeeeeeeee. 4 and anything later? we can discuss it.

of course, I am in the minority here on RealGM and think that Kyrie is vastly overrated.

Don't overlook how Kyrie is a young player that future free agents will want to play with fellas. Gotta factor that part in also. We'd also have his bird rights so when his contract comes up 2016 then we can pay him whatever and just go over the cap.. Bringing in Kyrie would shore us up at that PG position for the next 10 years. We'd easily have a top level PG for the next decade

Well I have a feeling both these players will make their ways to the Lakers eventually, so with that said.

Love - Absolutely not. Only one more year until he's here anyways.

Irving - Meh, If it's out of the top 7-8 I guess? But that could only be known by trading it away on draft night, which in that case I doubt cleveland would be interested. If it needed to be completed before the trade deadline, with the current standings and the way our season is looking to finish I say no.

Love is free after 2015....so that's moot. And I probably wouldn't do it for Irving either. Kyrie seems to have attitude problems, and let's not use the old "change of scenery" card. Unless he's on a team with a strong willed coach and vets who can check his ass, then he's gonna continue to develop into this diva we see him becoming now.

I'd take Tyler Ennis or Dante Exum over Kyrie Irving anyday.

Yeah, I just posted about this yesterday. We should definitely trade for Kyrie.

Kyrie is a top 5 point guard. Chris Paul is the best, but he's pushing 30, and he's had some knee issues in the past. D-Rose, I wouldn't go near him at all. I love Westbrook but it's been basically a year and he can't get over his knee issues either. Steph Curry, best shooter all time but has had glass ankles and is untouchable anyways, especially on that contract. Damien Lillard is solid but his game hasn't gone to the next level - I think his ceiling isn't too much higher than what he is right now.

Regardless of what people say, nobody can predict exactly what these guys would do.

As far as risk assessment goes, yes, Kryie is worth the risks and his baggage. His baggage isn't health or coach killing or being a terrible teammate. His baggage is playing on the Cleveland Cavaliers. His baggage is playing on a terrible team, and for a guy who was putting a hurt on the US Men's senior Olympic team, for a guy who owned all-star weekend just a year ago, that can be frustrating. We should know something about that. Kobe didn't mail it in when he was surrounded with garbage, but he responded in his own way, which is to shoot every time he touched the ball and chew out his teammates on national tv.

So yeah, give me some Kyrie, because if Kyrie weren't dogging it a little, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love are young, elite, top 5 in their position, and relatively speaking, affordable. It's a no-brainer in terms of value, and if it doesn't work, either could easily be traded.

Try moving a 30+ year old Carmelo getting paid 25m a year, and that might be a little harder.

Get the best players available. Especially blue chip ballers. That's the only mentality this team should have until we have enough pieces to start making a run.

I'm surprised so many people are so down on the idea of moving the pick for Kyrie even with all the positives there. I just feel in the right environment he can blossom. Now you know I've been a critic of his on previous threads for awhile now but man you cant tell me the potential to be even better than he is now isnt there. He can easily get to the 20ppg 10apg level if he focuses enough. Now maybe not for Wiggins or Parker but anything else after that even if it was Embiid I'd pull the trigger. Honestly the F.O. would REALLLLY have to ponder if it would be worth a top 3 pick because like I said Kyrie would be a draw for other future free agents.

People are always bullish on players in the draft, but history has shown that it's ALWAYS a gamble. This year's draft is strong, but that just means overall. There's a risk at every position in the draft - somebody did a pretty good study of this before.

But Kyrie is a proven commodity, a 21-year-old elite point guard. That is a fact.

He could be in this draft right now. But instead he's a top-5 point guard in the NBA, the youngest among his peers by far, with the upside of being the best in the next couple years. No major health issues, no knee problems.

Yeah there might be a player up there who'd be slightly better than Kyrie, but we have no guarantee who that'd be, so please give me Kyrie Irving than the next OJ Mayo.

No to Love since we can just sign him later. Maybe to Kyrie depending on the pick we get. I wouldn't trade Embiid but I might with Wiggins, would definitely trade Parker.
