LeBron save us.

Post#1 » by CWebb2491 » Sun Feb 16, 2014 4:20 am

We need LeBron to save us from these ever disappointing dunk contests. His dunks in practice were better than the dunk contest itself. If the nba cares about the contest they gotta keep it old school with the best players in the dunk contest duking it out.

True, but…

Expectations would be sky-high. Like Wade said, they'd want him to dunk over an airplane.

Lebron would if so many people didn't hate him, it's a lose lose situation for him. America will find anything to call him a loser, literally anything. The American society is so atrocious that big names will barely ever play in the contest again. I don't blame Lebron, remember the same people who want him in the contest are the same people who want to see him fail.

1. Lebron will be 30 next year, his prime dunk contest years were in Cleveland, not now

2. Who the f*ck would want to join in this atrocity that was produced today

Its just sad what became of the contest. It used to be a big part of the game with memorable moments like Jordan, Spud Webb, Dominique, Vince Carter, jason richardson. A dunk contest trophy would look good on Lebrons resume, and the dunk contest needs players of his caliber.

The thing is, back then the dunk contest hadn't been around that long. It was a new event that got the super stars to do it. It also meant that people had little expectations of what to expect. We now have 30 years of experiences to draw up on. There is very little anyone can do that will seem "new".

To be far Lebron doesn't look like he will be slowing down in the next few years. He could win it at 34, today was that bad

LeBron save us.

Post#8 » by WD » Sun Feb 16, 2014 5:52 am

The dunk contest Today is a manufactured overhyped event that raises money.

The people that probably needed this dunk contest on their resume, were competing.

Lbj gave his FANS a video of his dunks that went viral, I'm good

I'm glad lbj did not participate , guess who gets the final interview on Monday?

LeBron being in it wouldn't change the fact that the format was terrible and every dunker only got 1 dunk.

That is true, they are running out of ideas and expectations are higher than when it first started. I just wished they kept it simple with out all the nonsense. Let them go do it like they did it back in the day, cut the props out with cars and all that. Just natural dunks that look good (even tho we've seen basically every dunk). I know i'd love a contest with Bron, josh smith, andrew wiggins, rose (if healthy he can throw down)

LeBron’s unwavering refusal to participate is further proof of that otherworldly BBall IQ.

LeBron couldn't have saved last night's dunk contest. That was a botched abortion.

One guy is not going to "save" this thing. VC put on the best show I've ever seen and it didn't do diddley to stem the steady decline since the early 90s.

I hope he never does it, but keeps referencing. I get more enjoyment out of seeing transparent haters continue to bitch about it.

IMO, 99.9% of people who really understand and love BASKETBALL don't give a crap about the All Star Weekend.
Who won this or that competition, who won the main game, who lost etc is all irrelevant.

The ASW is a show for casual fans.

The dunk contest was bound to become more and more boring, because there's a limit to the number of new impressive dunks one can think of. That's why props started showing up, because otherwise the people would go "nice dunk, but X or Y did it already", no matter how difficult that dunk is.

As for the game itself, it turned to crap 15-20 years ago, when it stopped being a game and it started being a 48 min dunk contest.

At least from my point of view, for the ASG to be worth watching, it should feature some defense. I am not asking for complex team defense, that's anyway impossible to set up over a couple of days, but I would like to see individual defense.

At this point it's becoming too arbitrary to grade dunkers.

If they graded them on their vert, or distance. Or dunk-type (for one round, you must complete a free throw line dunk. lol), then i think you could give the Dunk Contest some added value.

Dunk contest is done. It's all been done, it will only get worse.

Time for 1 on 1 tournament. First to 11 wins, example matchups :

Howard Vs Curry
Melo Vs KD
Dirk Vs Kyrie
Harden Vs Beal

Start with 8 players, winners advance to semi finals. Finals are held the next day.

Do it Silver.

YouTube ruined the dunk contest. We've seen all the dunks.
