Can we please stop talking about any form of Rondo trade? The Celtics just named him like the 11th Celtics captain in their entire franchise history this year. You don't just trade away the player you made a captain in the same year, especially not for such a fabled franchise such as the Celtics.

Umm you do know that the Celtics have made Rondo available for the right price right? The Kings just turned down a trade for him only because he wouldn't sign a long term extension.

My idea is, instead of trading two first rounders, we trade 1 unprotected first rounder (2016?), Jennings, and Monroe. I would say Monroe is equal to a first rounder and Jennings is at least a decent replacement for Rondo.

Rajon Rondo for Greg Monroe, Brandon Jennings, and 2016 unprotected first rounder. Get it done Joe.

Rondo
Stuckey
Caldwell-Pope/Singler
Smith
Drummond

We can look for a SF in free agency with the money we won't be paying Monroe.

There is a poll on realgm right now and 70 percent of people don't see rondo being on the celtics passed 2015 so the talks will not stop. After seing what the king's offered we could definitely offer a better package for rondo.

Why do we want Rondo so bad anyways? He cant even shoot. Aren't we screaming out for shooters?

Because he is a star and could get melo to come here, sure we need shooters but i'm thinking about a bigger picture.

Everyone is forgetting who our GM and owner are. Playoffs without moving moose is the goal. Maybe a small deal, that's it. We're trapped in a cycle of mediocrity and watching Drummond get sick of being a Piston.

I think our best play for Rondo is wait to try and sign him as a FA the summer of 2015. If we avoid signing a long term deal and can dump Jennings we look like this that summer:

Smith ~$14 mil
Monroe -$10-$14 mil
KCP ~$4 mil
Drummond ~$4 mil
Mitchell ~$1 mil

Enough cap room for a max FA.

So you want to be as bad if not worse than we have been over the last few years for another year and a half just to go after a 30 year old Rondo?

Getting rondo now would mean giving up Monroe, and i don't think that'll happen.

Could we trade our first round pick this year if we paid cash for a low first round pick?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I don't think we are a Trevor Ariza away from being a title contender like some people apparently do. Obtaining a dominant perimeter player to complement Drummond should be our focus. If we have to treadmill for another year to put ourselves in position to do that so be it.

For the heck of it, put a poll in GD, asking if Melo would consider Detroit with Drummond, Smith and Rondo. It says about 3 to 1 he wouldn't. Also numerous comments saying that wouldn't be a good team.

Too bad there's not enough shot attempts for Melo and Smith to go around.

Not to mention our Dre would be even more ignored on the offense.

I think I'd rather help set-up the Knicks to get Rondo eventually by trading them Smith now.

Most posters on realgm seem to think Melo and Smith are garbage and Rondo is overrated, so I'm not sure if taking the opinions of the delusional really proves anything lol

And as for the lack of shooting thing that a lot of them are mentioning, last I checked Melo is a great shooter and there's 15 roster spots. You can surround them with tons of shooting. Get a great shooter at SG along with Melo and that's plenty of of shooting to compliment Drummond, Smith, Rondo in the starting lineup. And Rondo's jumpshot has improved as well over the last few years. Then you can fill out the bench with all shooters and mix/match lineups.

I don't see shooting as a problem with that team. Its more about quality of shooters than quantity anyways and Carmelo is a great shooter, who just him alone demands a ton of attention on the perimeter, creating space for Rondo and the bigs. Put another great shooter at SG on the other side of the court who commands attention as well and there would be plenty of space
