The deadline thread
Might as well stoke the fires... this is for media rumors regarding Piston players.
So far there some light chatter about our guards.
Sam Amico is hearing Stuckey's name being tossed around by "league insiders"
Sherrod Blakley thinks Bynum could be in play for Jerryd Bayless.
Basketball Insiders' Jabari Davis thinks the Detroit Pistons could make a run at both Cleveland Cavaliers forward Luol Deng and Philadelphia 76ers guard Evan Turner.
While we know from past experience a lot of these rumors are just for selling papers, it's still a fun time to spectulate.
If you see anything post it...
If you had to guess which player(s) is the most likely to be moved... who would it be?

Re: The deadline thread
We won't know until it happens. That's what I've learned following the last three deadlines. Any rumor you hear means it's probably not happening.
That said, I'm excited.

I wouldn't mind adding Deng as long as we don't have to give up Monroe, CV and KCP or something like that maybe. No interest in Bayless but for Bynum then whatever. Turner sucks no thanks. Keep em coming lol.

Re: The deadline thread
I can see us making a minor deal or no deal at all. Without any inside knowledge, it seems like Joe's hands are tied and Gores will stand pat and wait the season out.

I think Gores wants to win right away and won't wait until the offseason to make things happen.

Re: The deadline thread
I don't think Gores is going to limit himself to minor deals only, regardless of Dumars' situation. If there's a good major deal to be had, I think he will have Joe make it. However, knowing how hard it is to make major deals, I agree with the setiment that minor deals are more likely.
I want them to at least go hard after something big though first, then settle on something less if they can't get a deal done

Re: The deadline thread
I just noticed something unique about Kyle Korver's deal. Its actual a decelerating contract and gets cheaper each year. I thought he was making 7 mil/yr, but its actually only 6 mil next year, then goes down to 5.7 in 2015 and 5.2 in 2016.
Thats not that unreasonable for a one dimensional shooter of his caliber. If you are making that much and all you can do is shoot, you better shoot reaaallly good, and he does. So if Atlanta is looking to clear capspace, he would fit good here if we could get him for CV's or Stuckey's expiring contract.

Re: The deadline thread
I don't see any major moves happening. The Bynum for Bayless deal is new to me. I'd certainly be a fan of it, as long as it was a straight up deal without any picks going Boston's way.
Otherwise, the posters who are expecting a huge deal should temper their expectations. I don't think Joe has the power to even organize a large deal any longer.

Re: The deadline thread
Home and home against Charlotte the next couple days will be HUGE imo in deciding what we do come the deadline - if we lose both I think we could sell (Stuckey sold), if we win both we could buy a bit bigger (KCP/CV contract moved for a now SG) and if we split I could see a smaller buy/add move - Gary Neal type.

Atlanta seems like they are throwing this season away and no longer interested in competing without Horford
Korver can be had
Another player that can be had regardless of what anyone else thinks on the boards is Jack. He is making 6.5 M and the Cavs are prepared to trade for Jason Terry (5 pts, 2 assists on 36% FG in 16 minutes)
Bynum is not only better than Terry (8 pts, 3 assists on 44% FG in 17 minutes), he costs 3M+ less. Why would the Cavs take on Terry when they can have Bynum instead?
Also look at this insane rumor:
Source said Sacramento offered Isaiah Thomas, Ben McLemore and two picks for Rajon Rondo. Rondo wasn’t interested in re-signing with Sacramento.
That's a huge haul for Rondo, Kings should be happy Rondo said no as that is highway robbery

Re: The deadline thread
Isaiah Thomas + McLemore is a huge haul for the Celtics? Really? Or you think adding the 2 first rounders (which may end up being mid round picks) makes the package too much?
Rondo - Gay - Cousins would be a ridiculous core. They still have a good shooter on their bench.

Re: The deadline thread
Would love Korver 46% from 3, 92% FT 12pts 4 reb, 3ast but in 34 mins not sure he would be playing that much for us. Maybe something like CV and a 2nd or mitchell would do it?

Re: The deadline thread
I would like to see the Pistons pick up Anthony Morrow. Not a big name, but a minor deal that would instantly help our perimeter shooting problem. The Pelicans are apparently looking for a pick. I wouldn't give up a first rounder in any year for him, but maybe something like Mitchell and our 2nd this year would get it done.

Re: The deadline thread
I believe this thread will ultimately prove unnecessary. I don't think Joe will get the green light to do much of anything at the deadline. He certainly won't be allowed to trade shorter contracts for longer ones, or move any draft picks.
He's a lame duck and is just collecting checks until the summer.

I agree that he is pretty much a lame duck.....but I also believe Gores will be pushing Dumars to do something.
Keep in mind, anything that gets done will have to be approved my Gores and Co first....

Re: The deadline thread
I'm not so sure about Granger. Pacers are not taking on more salary for next year and they are looking to win it all this year. Not sure what kind of trade would help them to get move value than Granger.

I got us making a small move. KCP, Stuckey, Jerebko, Bynum or Charlie V will be dealt within the next couple of days.

I'm hoping he was kept on BECAUSE it was close to the deadline and Gores might have gave him an edict to make changes with Gores having final say. If he was handcuffed and can't do anything why wouldn't he have been fired with Cheeks in a total house cleaning? And if Dumars believes he's a lame duck and will be let go at the end of the season - why stick around now completely neutered?
