Knicks need to bring in two 3 point shooters and a PG.
Carmelo needs 3 point shooting around him to have success.

He's elite at the one thing that's kept him a part of their starting lineup and that's all that matters. Now name me one positive thing Bargnani is above average at, you can't.

I think it's only because nobody really thinks he's gonna leave Portland but if he did i'd rather him over Love for sure.

Re: Knicks-Related Trade "THOUGHTS" Thread - Part Deux
This is a trade that saves both teams money and improves our talent:
Felton + cokehead + Shumpert for Evans + Rivers
Hornets save money short term and in 2016, we save $3,047,118 in 2015 when you factor in Shumpert's cap hold.

NY gets: Teague, Vince Carter, Marion, Dalembart
Atlanta gets: Shumpert, Wayne Ellington, Devin Harris
Dallas gets: Tyson, Felton, JR
Using Tyson to dump JR and Felton is a great idea. JR has no place on this team. THJ projects to be a better 2-guard and playing JR at the 3 next to Melo makes us too small. Trading Tyson makes sense cause we have a crowded frontcourt, and what we lose in interior D, we gain by plugging Teague and Marion into the rotation.

Not trying to defend Bargs. I'm personally done with the guy and agree that he's also a net negative (though not as much as you make him out to be).
It's very hard to have a -4.7 on/off net rating when you're on the starting lineup of an elite team, but Perkins has somehow managed it. You can bash Bargs all you want, but in no universe is Perkins better by any factor.
People have become so obsessed with bashing all offense-no defense guys that they forget that all defense-no offense is just as bad.
And just like that, the lead has been cut to 8!

Pretty good deal.
I'm coming around on Teague a little I guess. Prefer him to Lowry and it's true that if we dump comparable salary, then his $8M is not so bad and doesn't eat up 2015 space. I don't think Teague is that good, but he's worlds better than Felton obviously.

How about Tyson, Felton, and JR to BK for Garnett, AK47, and Terry?
We dump post-2015 salary, and let's be honest:
Prigs
Terry
AK47
Melo
Garnett
is much better than what we have now.
At this point neither us nor BK is any position to be objecting on silly rivalry grounds.

Bobcats/Knicks trade idea
The Bobcats have a major incentive to make the playoffs. They would keep their own pick as long as it falls outside of the top 10. IMO there is no point to trading future assets for Lowry or Teague. We are not even close to beating Miami, let alone Indy. I think we could still make the playoffs playing Amare/Tyler @ center.
Knicks trade Chander and Udrih. If they want K mart throw him in.
Bobcats trade Zeller, Gordon and both the Trailblazers pick (prob like 22-26) and Detroit's pick (top 8 protected).
Tyson puts Charlotte in the playoffs and they're only a little scoring punch off the bench away from achieving their goals. **** I live down here they would love to start winning enough games to get to the playoffs. They just want to be a playoff team year after year. They don't see the big picture like Boston who is tanking for a top 5 pick.If this team does not start winning i don't know how much longer they can survive here.
Chandler is our anchor and he plays very hard every night. He is a very good asset and i wouldn't dump him for nothing. This trade would not be worth it for only 1 first IMO. Now let all the this trade sucks comments commence....

first of all cha give up the pick if it falls out of the top 10. secondly they have no place for chandler with jefferson clogging up the middle, and even if they did this trade is so one sided in favor of the knicks. essentially the 4th pick, lotto pick, 2 late first rounders and and expiring contract for chander and udrih.

Re: Knicks-Related Trade "THOUGHTS" Thread - Part Deux
Maybe we can do a 3 way with Boston and Phoenix.
NY- Rondo, Hunphries, Wallace, Bogans
Pho- Chandler, Green
Bos- Okafor, STAT, Frye, Shumpert, Udrih, two 1st rd picks, one from Pho and our 2018
Everyone pretty much gets what they are looking for in this trade deadline.
Phoenix is looking for a vet C and a SF with range
Boston is looking to shed salary and get young players and picks
NY is looking for a star to put next to melo
We would be short in the C department where we would have to start Tyler but that is a plus in my book...
1-Rondo- prig- Felton
2-JR-Hardaway-Bogans
3-Melo-wallace-
4-Humphries-Martin
5-Tyler- Bargnani
We can also flip Bargnani for Josh Smith and make a push this yr...
I know this whole post is far fetched but I would not be upset with this happening lol.

Assuming Melo is willing to take a 5 year, $109.4m deal starting at $20 million per year with 7.5% increases after years 2, 3 and 4. Melo leaves $20m on the table but still makes $10m more than any other team could pay him. But assuming what he said at the all star game is true, this contract helps the Knicks while keeping him among the highest paid players in the game. Anyway:
Anthony: $20,000,000
Teague $8,000,000
Smith $6,400,000
Prigioni $1,740,000
Hardaway $1,305,000
2015 Draft pick $1,250,000 (assuming we have the 20th pick, or lower, with Teague, Melo, Smith and Chandler)
Total Committed Salary: $38,695,000
Minimum cap holds (6): $3,000,000
Effective Payroll Number: 41,695,000
Cap Space assuming $60,000,000 cap: $18,305,000.
Stretching JR Smith reduces his cap number from $6.4 to less than $2.2 million.
Point is the Teague for Shumpert/Felton deal makes us better today without hurting our future position. The only risk is that Shumpert may end up being a better player than Teague. However, Shump needs a change of scenery and Teague has proven he can be a starting PG on a team that wins consistently. Sure, they never won a championship but they didn't' have a championship roster. If they can get this trade done they need to do it.
Solid post but I think a few changes need to be made (feel free to correct me if I said anything inaccurate)
1. If Melo starts at $20 mil a year this summer, wouldnt it be a slightly more by the summer after next?
2. Prigioni is unguaranteed contract and I could see him retiring or going back home either way. We can probably not pick up his last year if the numbers get too tight (he will be old anyways).
3. Cap space will be minimum 62 million that summer from what I read.
Overall, if we factor in these three things, we'll probably have around ~20mil capspace (even more if we stretch JRs contract. not sure the exact details on how that works)
PG: Teague
SG: Hardaway JR.
SF: Melo (not sure if he can play this position anymore though lmao)
PF: Love
C: 2015 pick
6th Man: Someone with remaining Cap Space (around $4.5mil)
7th Man: JR Smith
8th Man: mini-MLE
1) The contract could be structured with raise after years 2, 3 and 4 only. Year 1: $20m, Year 2: $20m, Year 3: $21.5m, Year 4: 23.1m, Year 5, which would be a player option: $24.8m. 5 years, $109 million.
2) If Pablo's deal isn't guaranteed, all the better. Replace his $1.7m sal with a 500k min hold
3) They have been predicting $60m for a while but the cap is still around $58.5m So i'm using 60 as a round number. Regardless, the point is the Knicks could absorb Jeff Teague's $8m salary and still have a max slot available.
Lastly, Melo and Kevin Love is an absolutely horrible fit. Melo is a tweener, he's undersized for the 4 and slow for the 3. He is best when, like Lebron and Durant, the team has the option to play him at the 3 or the 4. The problem with Kevin Love is he can't player center like Bosh or Ibaka can.
Oh nice. I didn't know the contract could be structured that way. You're right Love would not be a good fit with Melo. I think Marc Gasol could be a better fit games
PG: Teague
SG: Hardaway Jr.
SF: 2015 1st Round
PF: Melo
C: Gasol
6th Man: Remaining Cap Space (like 4 or 5 mil)
7th Man: JR Smith
8th Man:Mini-MLE

Re: Knicks-Related Trade "THOUGHTS" Thread - Part Deux
THE CELTICS WANT 2 1st ROUND PICKS? MAKE IT HAPPEN
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=nxryp5r
- Send JR Smith to the Thunder for that trade exception & a 1st and have it sent to the Celtics
- Group Tyson Chandler & Jeff Green together, sending them to PHX for OK4, Frye & a 1st. OK4 coming to the Knicks.
That's already 2 1sts going to the Boston Celtics, plus Frye who expires by 2015
- Swap Bargnani with Gerald Wallace, since Bargs expires by 2015
- Then just add our 2018 1st, Iman Shumpert & Beno Udrih to the deal for the Celtics
- Keith Bogans has a team option for his 3rd year, so he's basically off the books by 2015 as well. No need for the Celtics to deal him instead of Jeff Green
- Celtics also saves $10 mil of the bat from this deal then Humphries expiring is another $12 mil at seasons end.
- As for the Thunder, JR Smith seems like the exact player they are searching for. They still remember that shot last season he hit on them in the clutch off the botch Felton pass. They give up nothing of value other than a 1st.
It'll look like this for posters not wanting to read all this mess;
CELTICS GET - Iman Shumpert, Andrea Bargnani, Channing Frye, Beno Udrih, trade exception from Thunder for JR Smith & 3 1st round picks
KNICKS GET - Rajon Rondo, Emeka Okafor & Gerald Wallace
SUNS GET - Tyson Chandler & Jeff Green
THUNDER GET - JR Smith
The only negative here is that we still have Raymond Felton on the books, but I guess he isn't a bad backup. We could just have the Pablo & Felton duo off the bench & start Timmy with Rondo.
OK4 should be able to do the same stuff Tyson Chandler was doing for us this season.
Interesting scenario is if we get Melo to tell Amar'e to opt out & promise Amar'e another deal for longer years but less money or something.
Ok4 expires, Melo & Amar'e opts out & then we'd only have Rondo, Wallace, Felton, Tyler & Timmy on the books.
Heat doesn't win the championship this year?
Melo would take less?
Lebron anyone?
