Patric Young University of Florida
My buddy was watching the game Saturday and said this kid reminded him of a stronger Al Horford. I checked his stats and bio and youtube. Kid looks like a beast yet he is not on any mock drafts. Anyone think he will be a good pro or if the comparison fits?

He should pursue an NFL career if he can, he might be too tall to play TE though, but if he does it at a high level he will make way more money than in the NBA.
He is a solid defender, but that's about it, not a great rebounder, not a mobile or quick big men, not a skilled big either.
He will have a role at first, but I don't know for how long.

He is not a leaper, but he is built like a tank, strongest player in the NCAA probably, along Jarnell Stokes.

6'9" Center who has never put up great rebounding or defensive numbers and can't shoot.
He's a late 2nd rounder or an undrafted free agent.

i think he has a place in the league, maybe as a 4th big. he's obviously strong, but he plays strong. he's a good post defender, good communicator on defense, will make his rotations, excellent team defender, sets really good screens. he isn't much of an offensive threat, but he does have jump hooks with the ability to hit them over either shoulder. he even has running hooks. maybe he could be a middle class man's dale davis or something like that. i think he's better than his numbers indicate.
oh and he's absolutely nothing like al horford

I've never been able to erase the memory of Valanciunas putting up 30 and 15 with 4 blocks on him at the U19's in 2011. Every time I've watched him since then, it seems like he's got stronger but hasn't improved at basketball at all. He's Joey Dorsey without the rebounding. In other words... he's Europe bound.

Middle class man's Dale Davis. I like that.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Joel Anthony is the best comparison I can think of.

Joel Anthony has long arms.
Patric is strong but he doesn't have any other basketball tools.

The thing with Dorsey is that he's built like a brick house, but he's also ridiculously athletic. Lots of hops.
Patric isn't quite the athletic specimen Dorsey is/was. I think he's probably a better athlete than some in this thread are giving him credit for, though.
Joey also had a skill to bring to the league with him: rebounding. Young isn't a specialist in any one aspect of the game, and when you start to consider his age, chances are he'll be getting passed up in June, but I could totally see him making a roster as an undrafted free agent. He's a high energy big who's a great teammate.

Dorsey was a freak. I always thought he'd stick around the league in a Reggie Evans kind of role. I loved him when he was on my Raptors.

Re: Patric Young University of Florida
Being a huge Gator fan I have watched him closely for 4 years. He should have came out his sophomore year if he wanted to capitalize most on his potential. He was a first round consensus then.
What concerns me most about Patric is he has never really put up big rebounding numbers which is really concerning for how big and strong he is and it's not like he doesn't play hard, Dude plays his ass off. I thought when he came to Florida and got his chance to play you could pencil him in for 10 boards a game easy. Just hasn't happen for whatever reason. I think Prather might average more boards. He is an athlete but he is not really fluid of one. He runs weird to be honest.
His offensive game has improved, use to be non existent. His hooks are getting better doesn't shoot it very high which is concerning. Everyone once in awhile he will make a jumper just when I'm giving up on him ever expanding out that far. Never been a good free throw shooter at all, but over the last ten games he is shooting like 75% I have no clue where it's coming from. Maybe there is a shooting stroke waking to come out in the NBA, tons of players change once they get there, more time to completely work on their craft.
He is a great defender thou. You can't move him off the block and his help side defense is great. Florida has been top in the nation since he has been there (and Yuegete) in terms of defense. I think there is a spot in the League for him somewhere if someone gives him a chance. Great kid and will play hard.

The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...

Re: Patric Young University of Florida
Having brought up Patric makes me more curious about the other seniors on the gators right now. I don't think Yuegete will make the league, probably go back to France where he is from and have a great career over there. However Prather, Patric and Wilbekin all fascinate me in terms of the draft.
I'm not sure any of them get drafted in the 1st round, but if all of them get drafted in the 2nd I could see them helping a team. I went on at length about Young above this. Prather is a freaking TOP TIER athlete in this draft. He is getting to the hole at ease and his mid range jumper is pretty automatic right now when he shoots which isn't often. I think if he gets a chance in the NBA he could expand it out close to the 3 point line. I hope a team gives him a chance.
Now Scottie is baffling to me. He gets NO NBA love at all. Why? All this raving about Ennis is strange to me. Not because I don't think Ennis won't be a solid NBA PG but Scottie is comparable to Ennis to me. Except he can score easier then Ennis and Wilbekin is like 6'3 solid size. He runs PG for the soon to be number 1 team in the land, and guess what he is a senior who isn't that much older then Ennis. He doesn't turn 21 until after the season. He played his whole freshman year at 17 years old. He is a year older then Ennis a freshman!!!! I'm not saying Wilbekin is going be an All-Star but I will but you anything at worst he will be a solid go to back up in the NBA and he hasn't been on any mocks I have seen. Ludicrous.
Tyler Ennis Bday= August 24th 1994 (Freshman)
Scottie Wilbekin Bday= April 5th 1993 (Senior) If you need a point I'd pick another player in the first and get Scottie in the second.

Prather has 45% on 2pt jumpers (40% of his shots and only a third is assisted). Obviously he doesn't have the range despite 50% from 3, and his FT% is suspect. Still he made big improvements every year and went from useless freshman to best scorer on top team. He's a good defender and rebounder. I think he at least gets training camp invite.

I don't see a longterm role for Young in the NBA but maybe overseas. He does not rebound that well, does not look to have the height or length or skill to finish in the league on the offensive end. Nothing much there in terms of NBA prospect

Re: Patric Young University of Florida
I can see Patric Young carving out a career as a journey man. He was projected as top 20 pic several years ago by most of the major Draft sites. He hasn't improved much on offense in ages, but there is more than one way to make it to the league. He is a bit undersized even at the PF, position but if you can defend and set screens there is a place for you somewhere. Probably the most troubling thing is he does not have a nose for the ball. He is a poor rebounder, and if there is any skill that translates its that. He reminds me a lot of Mark Bryant who played about 15 years in the league.
