Loss in ATL.

Moving further and further from .500 milestone, but closer and closer to Bert and Ernie firing montage.
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

I rarely wish for a lose, but this reminds me of the EFJ days. I just can't take anymore of Randy's game time coaching.

But ATL is not TOR.

But we can at least dream of Martin and Mack tearing into the Wizards and losing by 10...

Would that be enough to get him fired ?

They would be 1-6 over the last 7 games and if you are going to get a better coach in the off season anyway, may as well let Newman take over if you think he has what it takes. Then upgrade to a legit coach over the summer.

Anyone got a good read on Newman. Would he be able to do better then Randy ?

Randy's not the problem, Hands -- which is not to say he's a great coach, because he isn't. But there's no coach who would make the current situation particularly better.

Because we have such a thin talent base, we don't have many options when a couple of guys start to decline, for whatever reasons, as Nene and Martell have -- especially Martell, who looks like he can't move the way he was last year and earlier this year -- I'm guessing back problems have returned? And Nene (who can look good in short stretches) can't get enough done to make up for his lack of rebounding.

We still need to change coaches, of course -- but really we need to change the entire FO!! And I'd rather a new GM hire his own guys than to have Ernie pick our next coach, even if it's just one of the current staff finishing out the season.

Note: I really like Martell Webster. He's a great guy and, when healthy, he's shown he can be a very effective player. I'm sorry to see him have trouble right now. But, since these back problems date to the beginning of his career, they point to one of Ernie's (many) flaws: going after veterans who have shown themselves to be injury prone. :(

He should have started this one as well.

This would be considered a "bad loss" considering the Hawks are in a free-fall.

Kinda... but it can passed off as a tough stretch considering how low standards are. If we lose tonight though it definitely becomes one.

payitforward is correct. Randy Wittman is not THE problem. He's A problem in that he's not a good coach. But, The Problem is the front office, the roster they assembled and their atrocious mismanagement of player acquisition resources. The fix is what they should have done with the front office three years ago -- clean house and bring in new management. Let that new management pick the next coach. Not Grunfeld.

Come on, people. Are we good or are we bad? I think it's no secret that our team is crap, especially the bench. Our starters are barely above average, and doesn't fit together too well. HOWEVER, fire our coaches, how the hell did we manage to lose to the Raptors - a team 5 games above .500, leads the Atlantic division, and has a better SRS than Dallas? I'm all for armchair gm-ing and empty posturing but it'd be nice if we can stop riding the highs and lows to such manic extremes.

BTW, we're not 1-6 in the last 7 but merely 2-5, losing to the Spurs, the Grizz, the Rockets, the Cavs, and the Raps, 4 of those I would say we were underdogs for. Before that we beat Portland and OKC - games I would say we had no business winning.

The Wizards are neither good nor bad -- they're average. Their starters are about average. Their bench production is about average. They have dead weight at the end of the bench, but a lot of teams have dreck at the end of the bench. Not so many teams have that dreck as a prized free agent signing, of course.

The Problem is the front office.

A to the men. I think it's laughable that some think just changing the coach will magically fix this team. There's no quick fixes here...there has to be wholesale changes from top to bottom.

Not sure why the approach is 'well its Ernie's fault so don't blame Randy'. The roster is flawed and Ernie is bad - I don't think anyone disagrees with that or could argue it. Thats a given and he should not be offered a contract this summer. What's also is a given is that Randy is terrible and isn't making chicken salad out of chicken $hit (my favorite Hard Knocks quote). Sure you can let is play out, but you're losing yet another 30 games of evaluation and development for guys like Wall/Beal/Otto. We've wasted enough time early in their careers. Why not let Newman finish out the season and see what he can do. I mean he immediately played Ariza at the 4 which is something we've been screaming for since the summer. Randy shouldn't be allowed to keep his job because of Ernie's failures. They should both be out. Who cares which one comes first as long as they're both gone this summer!

This team is good when they want to be. They have to put in the level of effort every single play regardless if it's the first or fourth quarter. Yesterday, I watched a team give up. They didn't close out on shooters and didn't contest shots. The worst part of it all was that this is the players keep on saying this, "We just need to play better defensively. It's not the coach, it falls on us, the players". And yet I still see the same problems. Maybe Witt needs to motivate them further, but he's not to blame for all the problems.

Also, Ernie the moron didn't trade Ariza while he had value. Especially after that **** show last night.

^I don't think Ariza's trade value fluctuates that greatly game to game to actual gms.

Good point, I just thought that he played like crap last night.
