Simple trade with Cleveland
Deng for Smith. Way too simple. Fits us perfect. I'd like Deng to stay, but still okay if he doesn't.

I have been thinking the same thing. I am fine with throwing some bench players in as well, but I think that centerpiece could work for both teams.

They can also get Bennett more minutes. And he'd probably get most space with Smith down low.

Deng can only be traded by himself this year since he was traded earlier. And due to their salaries the only trade that would really work for both parties would be Smith for Deng straight up. That said, I'm a huge fan of this and would be ecstatic if it happened.

Re: Simple trade with Cleveland
LOL, a Deng trade didn't take long.
They know he's gone. I wonder if they'll try to recoup their first round pick they lost for him? A first round pick for an 18 game rental is a terrible return on assets.
I would absolutely adore a straight Deng for Smith deal. It makes perfect sense for Detroit. But, it makes little sense for Cleveland when they already have Thompson and Bennett manning the 4.

Even better. A 1 to 1 swap makes too much sense from our end -- gets us out of a bind with Monroe/Smith and gives us a legitimate SF for our playoff push. The biggest question is whether Cleveland would prefer to preserve their cap space than lock into a long term contract with Smith.

I guess Bennett is a bit of a tweener, but he was suppose to be able to play the 3 when they drafted him. Totally agree the Deng trade was horrible for Cleveland, but they can try to recoup something. And are they tankers or trying to sneak into the playoffs? Not sure if this trade moves the needle much in either direction but certainly helps us.

Re: Simple trade with Cleveland
According to this article (http://t.co/ft0IQHNJHS) the Cavs are trying to make the playoffs this year. If that's the case, then them trading for Smith who's not a bad player (depending on who he's surrounded by) and who's locked up for the next 3 years might actually make some sense for them. I don't think they see Tristan Thompson as a longterm solution (why else would they have drafted Bennett?) and I believe (could be completely wrong) that they're playing Bennett a lot at the 3 so they might be interested in Josh Smith... I'll be crossing my fingers and praying to the basketball gods until the trade deadline. Is the trade deadline at midnight tonight, or tomorrow sometime?

Gores hasnt really been hesitant to fix a mistake quick so far though. Dumars is to stupid to fix a mistake quick but Gores cant be happy seeing all his money go to Smith while not getting anymore wins. Gores would probably pull the trigger on this deal.

We'll need more. It'll be considered a robbery if we trade Smith for Deng straight up.

Just because i cant resist....
Dumars should trade his awesome swingman (josh smith) to his future team because he will need a job and his guy will already be there waiting for him to take the cavs GM gig.
You guys are worried about frontcourt logjam on the cavs? Dont be Joe Dumars is 3 steps ahead of us already.
He sees a solid roster brewing in cleveland.
Kyrie
Smoove
Bennett
Thompson
Andy V
I wish.

You must be a Cavs fan. There's no other logical reason as to why you'd think this trade was "robbery".

If Dumars could trade Smith for Deng, then he would've done it. Stop dreaming. We won't make a trade by the deadline.

Cleveland only just made Deng available via trade. There wasn't an opportunity to trade for him before this.

I'm a big time Piston fan and I'm just speaking the truth. The only reason some of you guys are blind to truth is because most of you want to get rid of Smith.

Re: Simple trade with Cleveland
there is one problem, the Cavs fired their moron GM, we still have ours, so no way this deal happens.
