ULTIMATE start over trade!
TO DETROIT:
PF Amar'e Stoudemire (expires after next season)
SF Iman Shumpert
C Jeremy Tyler
Future 2nd round pick
We basically turn the failures that were our offseason misfit acquisitions into Shumpert and cap relief. We look to tank out the rest of this season. Next season, Amare, Jerebko, Bynum all expire together and we completely start over with a new GM and build around Monroe, Drummond, Shumpert, and KCP.
Bynum / Siva
KCP / Stuckey
Shumpert / Singler
Monroe / Amare / Mitchell
Drummond / Monroe / Harrellson
TO NEW YORK:
SF/PF Josh Smith
PG Brandon Jennings
SF/PF Gigi Datome
They upgrade their talent base by quite a bit in an effort to sway Melo to stay and have been rumored to wanting to upgrade PG and PF. They make a serious run for the East.
Jennings / Felton
Hardaway Jr / JR Smith
Melo / MWP
Smith / Bargs / Gigi
Chandler / Aldrich
PF Amar'e Stoudemire (expires after next season)
SF Iman Shumpert
C Jeremy Tyler

Re: ULTIMATE start over trade!
I'm pretty sure NY would do this deal in a heart beat. It gives them an upgrade at PG and PF immediately. They'd probably throw in a way off future first round pick.
Detroit won't do it- Joe just won't do it.
I like the trade, though.

Re: ULTIMATE start over trade!
I would make your trade in a heartbeat, Piston Pete. Smith needs to go ASAP, and Jennings doesn't fit for the future (although he's fine in the meantime as long as he's not a long term plan) and I'm a big fan of Shumpert. Then we could go after a PG and legit SF (I think Shumpert is an SG, not SF) and we'd have a solid team in a couple years once Stoudemire expires.

Re: ULTIMATE start over trade!
One of Smith or Jennings have to go at the very least. No team can win with two chuckers of that magnitude.

That's another one I'd do without a second thought.

Amare is actually a really good fit next to Drummond, too bad he's 10 or 11 years older.

Re: ULTIMATE start over trade!
One of the more reasonable trades I've seen that could work within reality.
I'd just like to get a redo on Jennings or Smith. Both would be ideal.

Re: ULTIMATE start over trade!
I really like the suggestion in the OP. Would even be happy with Pablo Prigioni or Beno Udrih coming across too (if it works financially) instead of the second round pick.
Don't think Dumars has the guts or freedom to offer this deal at this stage though.

It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

Yours seems less likely and much worse for DET, since it essentially means adding the old Monroe-for-Barnes trade. It should be common knowledge by now that Barnes has not been a good NBA player--even in his 'break-out' playoff performance was simply the result of defenses leaving him open for spot-ups, which he hit at a mediocre percentage (true shooting of 54%--that's not good). Last year he was probably the worst starting wing in the league and he's been worse this year off the bench. His career PER is 11 and his career per-36 is 13/5 with more TOs than assists or combined blocks/steals. Those are D-league numbers.
He's still young of course, but he shows little ability to create for himself or make things happen on D, and he's not a great shooter. That's been the book on him since college too, so I would be careful assuming that his game was going to catch up to the hype.

the ONLY change i would make would be swapping out tyler for prigioni. he'd be a great PG for drumroe since he'd spread the court, get them in good position to score, and take an extremely small volume of shots. he's like a poor man's calderon. plus, do you really think we can get through a half season with just bynum and siva?? i'm all for trying to keep our pick and what not but that'd just be horrendous hahaha
