You guys should really start looking at the lottery prospects. #9 is yours.

The Bulls shot up from number 9 to number 1 to get Rose a few years back I believe.
We have bad luck as a franchise anyway. Would only be fitting something like that happened.

We are playing some of the worst basketball of the season right now and the rest of our schedule is pretty brutal. Don't count on that pick yet Cats fans.

It's worth way more if it conveys with only top-1 protection next year. I don't see the Pistons digging out of that mess with J. Smith and Jennings. Those 2 are impossible to move. You'd have to draft McDermott at 8 or higher to get your spacing.

Re: Charlotte 2014 Picks Watch Thread
if the pistons fall into the top 8 and we dont get that pick, what is the shark move?
A) deal the pistons pick in the summer (top 1 protected) assuming the value of the pick is at its peak. every GM will only have a memory of seeing the pistons fall apart and think the pick is surely a top 10 or higher pick in 2015.
B) hang on to the pick be used by us in the 2015 draft and pray the pistons dont make moves that launch them into the playoffs turning that pick into the 15-20 range. (longshot, but possible. who saw the suns and blazers playing this well last summer?)

I would lean towards holding onto it for the 2015 draft if we don't get it this year but it all depends on what teams are offering for it.
They will wage war against the Lamb but the Lamb will triumph them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings - and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers." Revelation 17:14 (NIV)

The shark move is to sell it now because it looks perfect now at #10 and with the Cavs surging #9 and worst case scenario becomes top-1 protected next year with a new coach and the same core of players due to immovable contracts like J. Smith and Jennings. But that depends on the bait, largely. This pick is now a conversation starter for legit players right now so if you can get who you want now, you shouldn't tinker with volatility and uncertainty of outcomes.

Re: Charlotte 2014 Picks Watch Thread
problem is, right now, only a handful of teams are selling. in the summer, there will be a lot more players available for that detroit pick. plus it could also be handy in a draft day deal.

Either way its an extremely valuable asset that can be traded

If we fall in love with someone in the draft we can use that pick and the Portland pick to move up. Its still very valuable regardless of whether or not we get it this year. Piston fans have to be irate at the situation they are in.

We still have our 2nd rounder too. I don't think there's any scenario where we draft 3, maybe even 4 rookies.

Re: Charlotte 2014 Picks Watch Thread
I don't see any team trading Embiid, Wiggins, Parker or Exum.
I think Randle is the most talented player teams would be willing to deal. And if Utah is picking 5 or 6 they would definitely listen given Kanter and Favors.

Kanter isn't good enough to warrant trading a top 6 pick. He still has a lot of potential that could get them a pretty good asset, but to make a pick based on keeping a Kanter/Favors frontcourt isn't smart, particularly if Embiid, Randle, or even Vonleh is on the board when they pick.

Maybe Utah is a poor example but I believe Randle is BPA for a trade.

Re: Charlotte 2014 Picks Watch Thread
I would assume most people want us to get Detroits pick this year but if they end up tanking and keeping their pick it would almost certainly convey to us in 2015 with only a top 1 protection. That would quite possibly make it the most desired trade chip in the league this offseason and possibly into next season if they get off to a lousy start. I hate to engage in hyperbole but there's no telling what we could get for that pick if we end up not getting it this year. I would hate to trade that away for pretty much anybody we have been linked to over the last few days just to get a little better (maybe) this year.
