Get rid of Martin and Orpik, who will be 35ish when it rolls around. Love our young defense. Suter, Shattenkirk, Fowler and McDonagh already on the team and then we have guys like Trouba, Jones, Yandle (who should've made this team), Bogosian, DeKeyser, Gardiner and Faulk. Really hope some of our young forwards progress too because I don't want to see guys like Ryan Callahan on the roster. I'd like Byfuglien to make it just for his versatility as well.
Goaltending will be solid again.
Hopefully Poile isn't the GM, we know what kind of teams he likes to put together and it just doesn't work. Not a fan of Bylsma either. He's a great coach because he has two top 5 (arguably top 3) players on his team a glut of other good forwards around them.
Get some ****ing puck movers on the blue line. Martin and Orpik had no business being on this team and they made more mistakes than positive impacts. But mainly, when you run into good defensive teams like Canada and Finland (Sweden would have been the same), you need to have your offense multifaceted. When the forward groups are shut down, you need offense from the d-men. Literally anyone with a hockey brain knew that would eventually hurt the US in this tournament.
The hockey team went the way of nearly every US contingent in Sochi, a lot of hype, and a bigger failure. Who were the biggest names to actually come through in these Olympics for the US, the ice dancers? Maybe Bodie Miller?
They'll finish in the top 3 of the medal count, but the hockey team, speedskating team, Shani Davis, Shaun White, Lindsey Vonn, Gracie Gold...all didn't come through.
