I have come to not care about second rounders since Ernie never gets anything out of them. At this point, it's as if we traded away Eric Maynor and an extra Eric Maynor (2nd round pick).

you can get seconds pretty easily--if we have a GM worth a crap we can get a 2nd rounder back for cash, if not then Ernie would have wasted the pick anyway

Andre Miller is fantastic--he's been a 112 ORTG guy for the last two seasons. I'd like to make one more move--Jimmer, Thad Young, anything...the bench depth still needs to add an impact player.

Why?

As far as I know, there's no protection on the pick. The pick this year, if everything stayed the same would be around 39th-40th. That would suggest a rotational player. New Orleans could be better next year, they could be worse, they probably won't make the playoffs which will guarantee it being in the top half of the 2nd round.

It's an extremely valuable pick.

I guess I should watch Miller play some more before casting judgement. I hope this doesn't effect team chemistry, the guys really seemed to like each other.

I'll chime in w/ my thoughts on the Miller trade in the dedicated Miller thread.

But on a broader note: I can't believe the Wizards are going to let this deadline pass without tradine one of our *3* small forwards. So, either we're going to have to pony up and pay Ariza -- meaning that we'll have 3 SFs on long-term deals -- or we'll let him walk for nothing at all.

If Porter really stinks, why not just trade him now? I'm sure we could pick up some other team's bust/reclamation project in return. If the Wizards think Porter still has game: why not just trade Webster? Temple can slide to the backup 2-3 alongside Miller (and Rice, if he picks up extra minutes) until Porter's ready to contribute. Webster isn't as overpaid as Simmons seems to think, and average swigmen on average salaries are both movable *and* replaceable.

I just don't get why the Wizards are willing to move forward with an unstable, unbalanced roster.

Tiny sample size, but...in 29 minutes this season, the lineup of Wall-Beal-Webster-Ariza-Gortat is +24.0 pts per 100 possessions (well, more accurately, pts per possession x 100).

Replace Gortat with Nenê and they're basically break-even in 12 minutes.

It's slightly possible that there might still be some small deals how have not come out yet that were made before 3PM, doubtful but we can hope.

Yeah, To me the dead line is where you should try to improve your team by cutting the fat and hopefully picking up better pieces than the trash you duped or clearing enough room or spots to bring in better pieces off the street. We should have moves Singleton, and Harrington, possibly kevin too.
