If we have our pick, who might be a Dre/Monroe type slide?

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Fri Feb 21, 2014 1:15 am

We got lucky when Dre and Monroe slid in their respective drafts. Realistically, who might slide to us at, say, eight that would be another such gift?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Julius Randle is my best guess. That would be fitting.

Tough to say. A lot of team's boards will re-organize after the NCAA tournament. Marcus Smart would be my off hand guess, but I don't think I'd want him after his last outburst, along with his shooting woes.

Marcus Smart is really interesting to me because I can see him both being really good, or extremely average. I don't really care about his outburst against the fan. Not saying I condone it in any way, he definitely did the wrong thing, but from everything I've heard it was completely out of character for him, and he's supposed to be a really good teammate. If he can get a reliable jumper then I think he'll be a great PG. His handles look really good to me and I've seen him make some pretty spectacular passes.

There was a lot of people talking crap about Wiggins. They were saying that he didn't have elite bball skills and was just an athlete. I could see him sliding if he has a poor tournament and doesn't nail the interviews. Randle and Gordon have both already begun to slide, although neither of them are fits next to Drummond. If Smart blows up the tournament to 'redeem' himself, he could keep himself in the company of Embiid/Parker/Exum.

Of course the chance that Wiggins falls to us, with the 8th pick presumably, is slim.

Even worse, Embiid and Gordon might not declare, so chances of a stud falling to is is slimmer. I think that we're looking at Ennis, Young or Hood if we stay at 8, if they DO declare. We could also consider Jerami Grant.

Wiggins is top 3. We need top 3. Not sold on Jabari.

Hoping Wiggins has a terrible March and he figures out a way to slide to us.

At this point I'm not at interested taking guys who might slide because of trouble with the mental side of the side of the game.

My hope is that we can draft Smart so we can have a defensive-minded PG again. We can then focus on trading Dumars mistakes Jennings, Smith, Bynum, and Jerebko. Maybe sign Deng?

Smart
Caldwell-Pope/Stuckey
Deng/Singler
Monroe
Drummond

That's the type of direction I'm hoping for in the offseason.

I don't see Marcus Smart at the one in the nba. More of an undersized 2.

Jesus Christ, I will be too through with Dumars if he drafts Brandon Knight pt.2

Smart is closer to Stuckey than he is to Knight. He's big and strong but a poor shooter and distributor.

Who is BK7 2.0?

I personally want nothing to do with Smart.

What about Tyler Ennis? He's a solid PG.

We won't get a pick this year. We will probably try to trade Smith and try to sign some role players with our cap space. Go hard for Stephenson.

I don't see the Smart/Knight comparison
