Playoff Watch Thread

Post#1 » by Liver_Pooty » Sat Feb 22, 2014 3:34 am

No idea what to name this thread. Please change the name to something better, please.

Thought I would make this thread to keep track of what teams around us trying to make it into the playoffs are doing.

Tonight the Knicks, Hawks, and Cavs lost. Bulls won. We are currently tied with the Hawks for the 7 seed and they are free falling into oblivion. We are a game back from Washington and the Nets for the 5 and 6 seed.

Lol. We will probably be saying that after this 5 game stretch.

does this mean we can kill the "tank or shoot for playoffs" thread?

of course, we might want to fire that thread back up after these next five games are done.

I forgot all about that thread, but to be honest at this point its pretty obvious that we are not going to tank, at all. The way Detroit and the Knicks are playing our only threat of not making the playoffs is Cleveland.

And Atlanta is looking like they may fall out altogether though I'd be surprised if they actually did.

Here's my full prediction for the Eastern Conference:
1. IND
2. MIA
3. CHI
4. TOR
5. CHA
6. BRK
7. WAS
8. ATL
-
9. CLE
10. DET (with exactly the 9th pick)
11. NY
12. BOS
13. ORL
14. MIL
15. PHI

My WTF prediction: the 3-10 seeds will all be decided in the final week of the season- a 100% crapshoot- and will all be within 5 games of each other. All those teams will have between 36 and 41 wins. Charlotte finishes 40-42 and is matched up against Toronto in the 1st round. It's very doable- we would have to close out the season 14-12 to make that happen.

I wish we could go back in time and play like we have lately about 2 months ago when we lost some excruciating games against teams like the Magic and Jazz. Those were just painful.

I don't think we can beat the Bulls in a series. I actually think they would beat us in potentially 5. Thibodeau is like a freaking genius. I'd give him COY easily for what he is doing right now, especially after the front office traded Deng away.

Every team in the league has those moments. Even Indiana and OKC have had their share of painful losses.

Agree 100%. Like I said, I think 3-10 seeds are a complete toss-up, and you can even toss the 11th seed Knicks in there if they win a couple. That said, I don't see any team in that span having a total meltdown or threatening to explode but it's totally possible.

Hopefully when we play the Spurs Duncan gets some rest and Patty freaking Mills who Walker still has nightmares about turns an ankle. Maybe Lebrons nose will allow him to get some rest in the Heat game along with Wades knee, and the Pacer and Thunder game, just try I guess.

We've lost to them three times this season and they haven't played us without one of our best players injured:
Jan 25: Lost 89-87, no Kemba
Jan 11: Lost 103-97, no MKG, our bench had more fouls and turnovers than points
Nov 18: Lost 86-81, no Jefferson, Kemba was garbage, they had Rose

We play them again April 16, last game of the season. I'd pick Chicago in a playoff series over Washington. I think Washington is just a matchup nightmare for us.

We're a playoff team right now, I don't think anybody rests against us anymore.

Popovic rest against anyone. Last year he rested Parker Duncan and Ginobili against the Heat I believe in a nationally televised game. He doesn't care.

Pop rested the whole starting lineup vs MIA last year they will probably rest at least 1 player probably Parker if he is even back and MIA wont play all 3 of the big three, LBJ probably sits out with a broke nose

:nonono: :wavefinger: :meditate: Lets not get ahead of ourselves. I believe the goal is to go 13-13 the final 26 games and see where it lands us in the playoffs. We could easily start off 0-6 if we play like we played last night.
That would mean we would have to go 14-6 after this stretch of games.

We are now the 7 seed fellas. Lets get this win tonight.

Hopefully Warriors take care of Nets.

and Pelicans bounce back and upset Wiz kids.

That would create a three way tie essentially for 5 seed.

Corny ass Pelicans blew the game at the last second. So we don't gain on the Wizards.
