Re: Charlotte 2014 Picks Watch Thread
I don't even know if I like Julius Randle more than Zeller and I'm very meh on Zeller. Randle might become a Zach Randolph duplicate but I don't like the way he play at Kentucky right now even though I know he has plenty of time to grow.
I would be happy just to stay put at the Detroit pick and draft whichever is the best prospect to drop to us out of Doug McDermott, James Young, or Zach Lavine and then use the Portland pick to try to sure up the depth at PF in case Zeller doesn't improve.

I like the way Zeller has played the last couple games, but come on now that is absolutely insane.

I just don't trust Randle. I went into this season thinking he could be the best prospect out of Wiggins and Parker and he's disappointed me majorly. He's not even the best player on Kentucky, James Young is, and if it wasn't for hype Jordan Mickey of LSU might be considered a better big man prospect in the SEC.

I like those guys but can't envision them getting enough playing time to make an immediate impact. McDermott ahead of MKG? Young ahead of MKG or Lance Stephenson? Zach Lavine as a backup PG?
Randle would grab a chunk of time right away and develop faster than these other guys. We are not in a long-range rebuild right now. We're coming out. Randle is raw but his body and physicality is NBA ready. He needs to keep working hard and he needs a mentor and a good system. He's going to be damn good.

Young and Lavine are SGs that'll trump Hendo in no time. McDermott would make for a great backup, just imagine a better version of Tolliver. Randle would struggle almost like Zeller but he'd be a little better in his rookie year. I want shooters or Hendo replacements this offseason. McBob is doing a good job as starting PF right now. I would give him and Zeller another year and use the Portland pick to give them competition or for a backup PG.

I guess I'm banking on using our 16 M cap space to guarantee we win the bidding for Lance Stephenson, so I already replaced Hendo. So now I move onto PF and I think Zeller's minutes need to be challenged and Randle is the best candidate to play in this lineup, assuming Lance is realistic.
Lance and Randle is a tougher combo than any realistic PF free agent plus one of:Young, LaVine, Harris, McDermott.
Assuming Lance signs and is playing SG instead of Hendo, do you still want to pick from the same crop of prospects?
See, if I knew Lance were definitely not signing no chance in hell I would want Young or LaVine and I wouldn't want to trade up.

Lance Stephenson isn't signing with us unless we overpay his special-ed ass. I wouldn't want to pay Lance more than $8 million and I think whatever team pay him that or more will end up regretting it. Even the Pacers players admit that he's a character to deal with but they've learned to tune him out.
As far as Randle, he can't defend for sh*t. I'd hate to see him next to Jefferson. I wouldn't be mad if we drafted Randle though because he should be coming into his own right around the time Jefferson ages and expires so Biz may very well become our C to protect Randle not being able to defend.

And with their trade Indiana will be able to resign Lance. I have a feeling that ship sailed with the trade deadline.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

How much would you be willing to pay Hayward? I wouldn't pay him over $8 to 9 million either and I'm sure the Jazz will match that.

8-9 and we could do a sign and trade if we needed to

If we could get Randle with the Detroit pick, McDermott with the Portland+2nd rounder and sign Lance Stephenson, that would be the best offseason in Charlotte history, probably.

I think that sliding on draft night is the best thing that can happen to prospects with questionable motors.
I personally think that Drummond sliding to ninth, gave him the edge and boot up the backside he needed.'
Same can happen to Randle imo.

You're absolutely right. Until they raise the age to 20 years old there is just too much unknown factors about any of the players going into a draft. I can't wait for Silver to implement that rule.

That's basically the same thing though. I guess if it's considered different then id go with the 2 years in college rule.
