How long does our newest rebuild last?

Post#1 » by Phenomenonsense » Sun Feb 23, 2014 5:27 am

Generally speaking, NBA GMs have players they like and players they don't like, so when a new GM takes over a lot of deals are made. It is both my hope and my assumption that a GM with no first round pick, and Jennings and a non fit in Smith will be busy "cleaning up" in the first year. If the GM doesn't find Monroe to be a fit, I find it highly likely the only faces we'll see after the clean up year is over, are KCP (maybe), Monroe (maybe), Drummond, and Singler.

For myself, I hope that between one and two years will all we will need to clean this mess up, get at least one draft pick under our GM's belt, open up some cap space, find some assets, and turn them into a core. Then I would estimate that another year or two of our core being in place will be required before they play well enough together to get into the playoffs. All in all, 2-4 years before we're watching good basketball again, and that is assuming our new GM will not be terrible. I would've said next year would be "good basketball again" if Gores didn't mandate playoffs this year and make us bring in bad pieces.

I just get worried for some people when they talk about "Just give us one more year." I hope they temper their expectations.

I'm very excited to see what the new GM does. He won't have any sort of sentimental value to this roster like Joe does. So everyone is fair game. I would imagine Smith and Jennings will be the first to go. I wish we could get a GM like Ujirii who wouldn't hesitate to get rid of the cancers but we shall see. I almost just want to lose the pick this year so the new GM doesn't have that weighing over him as well to use in a great trade if one comes up.

Suns turned it around right away. Drummond continues to develop and we're a playoff team next year.

Maybe. The East is incredibly weak. I don't know if Drummond can do it alone next year and I'm not sure Drummond won't BE alone next year.

I still believe in the Monroe Drummond front court. I also believe we can trade josh on draft night to the celtics for the nets pick and bass.

Hopefully we tank hard enough for a top 5 pick and end up with Wiggins. Take a guy like Christon to back up Lowry (Bynum until he's ready) with Boston's pick.

Sign Lowry and get rid of Jennings.

Get a bench shooter like Morrow.

Lowry
KCP
Wiggins
Monroe
Drummond

Bench of Bynum, morrow, Singler, bass.

That's a playoff team and also best case scenario.

Lol that's beyond best case scenario. If all we needed to do was get a top 5 pick why didn't we do that already? Get CGC a job dammit.

If Drummonds offensive ceiling is Al Jeff then he will be a monster. A shot blocking athletic freak with AL's offensive skill would dominate the league for along time.

But honestly I don't know what your smoking because they are nothing alike.

What rebuild?

Josh Smith is going no where, no one wanted him last Summer, Now that hes fallen off the map defensively, his above avg defense doesnt make his mind boggling offense worth it. 54 Mill/4 years.

Jennings may be moved but thats doubtful too. I dont know who would want him.

So yeah, this is most likely the dumpster fire well be seeing for a few years.

The rebuild where we recover from the signing of Smith and Jennings or "Dumpster Fire." Too bad there aren't more NYK teams in the league. Someone gave up a first for Bargnani.

We aren't even rebuilding until we start rebuilding. Last summer was the time and, ironically, future-minded roster management would have gotten us to the playoffs this year, fulfilling "the playoff mandate." I don't know how they couldn't see that. The agents of Smoove and Jennings just happened to have a video of Jomars blowing a tranny, I guess.

They need a decent coach before anything else. I wouldn't even call it a rebuild because you could actually win with this roster if they were guided properly...

I think Joe should stay actually. I'm afraid any replacement this ownership would hire would be a disaster. Joe's made some bad decisions but he is our best option.

The rebuild is over. It's just a poorly build team, that will fail to achieve anything.

No way, I seriously can't see any hire being worse. At this point the fans have more sense then Joe on how to build a team. Joes decision making is absolutly mind boggling. He's one of the worst in the league right now and Now he has to much attachment and to much self pride to admit his mistakes and make the proper moves to fix this mess.

1-Pray to god we play bad enough to not give up our pick.
2a-sell the idea of the Pistons being such a mess that Smith isn't that bad, Detroit was that toxic. (this shouldn't be hard at all)
2b- Pretty much monitor the Knicks situation, seeing as they would be dumb enough to trade for Smith.
3-Go to any seminar involving someone from the Suns organization.
4- build team around Drummond/Monroe frontline.

This is kind of true...other than they still have Drummond. I'd scrap everything but him. Every single other piece on this team should be getting shopped.

Return to Detroit Pistons
