Heat fans,do you think Shaq should get his jersey retired?

Post#1 » by TheBomb81 » Sun Feb 23, 2014 6:34 am

He was close to winning MVP over Steve Nash in 2005 and he did promise to bring a championship to the franchise, which together him & Dwyane Wade did in 2006.What do you think?

Burned too many bridges. His number was guaranteed before he dissed Chris Quinn. That's why we let Mickell Gladness take #32 before we cut him. Don't screw with Pat Riley. Shaq was the only one to gripe about Pat as though he were some sort of career-killing tyrant. Shaq said that about every team he left and he got people to believe him before trying that here. That's when the covers came off.

Shaq is one my favorite players every and even to put on a Heat jersey I was sad when we traded him but i was pissed the way he was bitching about this organization he had the biggest ego in the NBA and every team he played with which kinda killed his career even tho he has 4 rings Shaq could had won more with Kobe and Wade. Even if i love Shaq and love to see his jersey retired I'll say no he doesn't deserve it the way he acted even bringing us a title plus he didn't play enough years in my opinion to have his jersey retired and he didn't do enough things for this organization.

No. A 3 1/2 year tenure would be borderline at best anyway (title or not), but he acted like an ass for pretty much that last half season to force a move. Feigning a confrontation with Riley in practice? Talking **** about some of the roster and the training staff? "Wonderboy"? FOH.

I appreciate his preference to be traded here out of LA, the commitment in getting into shape upon arrival, being deliberate in establishing a good relationship with Wade early to avoid drama and pretty much everything in those first two seasons, but just no to hanging in the rafters. That video tribute he got when he came back with Phoenix is enough for me. Speaking of that game...

He doesn't deserve it, for a variety of reasons.

He quit on the team, forced his way out, trashed the organization on his way out, is not on good terms with Pat Riley, bad-mouthed Wade behind his back, refused to cooperate with the medical staff, and only gave the Heat two good years.

With that being said, he never should have left. He made a HUGE mistake by forcing his way out.

I think the only people he remains on good terms with are Haslem and Micky Arison.

Shaq also owes an apology to Pat Riley, in my opinion. But because of how arrogant he is, he probably won't.

Speaking of the Riley vs Shaq feud, there's no doubt that Riley has gotten the last laugh.

I still can't figure out why Shaq remains so upset with Pat. What bad things did Pat do to him?

He made excuse after excuse for Shaq's terrible performances during his final year with the team and he even made sure to take him out of a game in which Shaq was about to set the record for most consecutive games fouling out.

He was clearly picking up fouls on purpose so he wouldn't have to play and then he chose to shut it down in hopes he would end up with the Mavericks.

Shaq needs to stop misleading people into thinking he wanted to stay and that Riley kicked him off the team.

Shaq demanding a buyout and refusing to cooperate with the medical staff is all the evidence people need to know that he forced his way out and didn't want to stay.

I like how UD came in and kinda pushed shaq off a lil to pick up D Wade. And also I dont know if many caught that he went with Lebron to the locker room after he got his nose broken by Ibaka, he's a great teammate.

Yes he put miami basketball on the map before Shaq came we were a football town with a basketball team...now we are a basketball town with a football team and that's extremely hard to do in the south

a simple no should do

Yes, he is an All-Time top ten legend, He was one of the big 2 that won a title for us. Wilt and Kareem deserved their jersey every where they went so does Shaq. The only place that you question is Cleveland and Boston.

He should have his shirt retired at the lakers but not the Heat.

Tenure was too short.

No. As great as Shaq was he only played two solid seasons. He acted a fool the remainder of his time.

There is no question Shaq should get his jersey retired. Shaq got us our first ring, made us a star destination,Remember how he made us a contender relevant a cool place to go how he showed up in a huge diesel truck to show up in Miami. Got Payton to come to the Heat for cheap. Got Pat back to coach just on that alone i cant thank him enough. I like stan but if you put him in that Dallas series we lose remember players call him the master of panic. Shaq asked Zo to come back. Yes he was also an ass and a big baby but he was so important to this franchise. Imagine Wade without Shaq and how he would have developed. Remember since Wade won a ring he was patient with waiting for our big free agency grab instead of forcing our mgt to make win now moves.

I agree with Flash4thewin, Wade was the main attraction for him coming here and let's be honest the 04-05 team was nasty as hell and should've been in the Finals that year too but we know what happened. Shaq was great and when him and Flash was balling at the same time you couldn't help but laugh when they enjoyed themselves and we still do it with this team and been doing it since I started watching. I just hate how it ended and I remember Phoenix tried to hit us with trade backs but we didn't take it, should've came back in 2010 and the hate would've been even more real. Like others said, he burnt his bridges and unfortunately it cost him.

i say yes. he was instrumental to the franchises first ever championship. thats huge. not many players have ever guaranteed championships and lived up to that promise.

yes he burned bridges and disrespected riley but shaq has always been a big ego. look what happened between him and kobe. im sure as time passes shaq will reconcile with riley. as far as the city goes, he may have left the team in bad taste but the fans mostly still like him

imo only jerseys so far that should be retired are

Tim Hardaway - 10
Alonzo Mourning - 33

When the big 3 retire
1-3-6

UD - 40

when shaq gets inducted to HOF - 32

i still dont get why jordans number is retired. i loved jordan but its ridiculous that we have his jersey on our rafters

Riley explained pretty clearly why he did it and I don't have a problem with his reasoning.

Can't decide. I have been a huge fan growing up and coming to Miami made it special for me. Although, he hasn't played the sufficient amount of time here either. I'd love to have seen it but its not going to happen. About him burning bridges, I wouldn't go too far saying that since both sides still highly talk high about each other despite the dilemma. During the 2012 post-season, he was practicing in the Heat gym too when him and Charles were going to have Shirt-Off contest. Just shows we are not aware of what really transpires afterward.

The obvious is going to be number's 1, 3, 6 & 40. And it for wasn't for this cursing new CBA, maybe we would have seen more good moments from Mike. Ray is going to fly up there too, just needs a couple more years as a Heatle.
