Thoughts on McDermott's Transition to NBA?
Doug McDermott is putting up ~26 PPG, 7 RPG, 2 APG on 52/45/90 shooting this season. For those who've seen him play a lot this season, how do you see him transitioning into the NBA?

From what i've seen, he's extremely crafty off the ball, and knows how to get open. The lack of lift when he gets inside is concerning for the next level, and his release is a bit slow for my liking depending on where he gets set. He definitely has decent ball handling for his size, though.
I really hope we aren't seeing another Adam Morrison in the making, because he's a lot of fun to watch play. NBAdraft.net compares him to Tracy Murray. I'd like to think expectations should be higher for him. He's currently slotted as a late lottery pick.

Best case scenario is a good role bench player. I think he must go to Europe.

I disagree. I think he's more like Reddick or Novak (in terms of great pure shooter) than Morrison. He'll find a spot in the league, and it'll take time probably, but he'll end up with a long career based off his pure shooting.
The fact that he actually rebounds like he's a PF, and the fact that he's at least a decent defender also helps (though he'd be a poor NBA level defender, but not horribly so). Coaches son...yadda yadda yadda.
He's a 1st round pick. Someone will take him higher than everyone thinks he should be, but he'll make it.

He'll be a top 5 player in this draft. Book it.

I'm not sure he's going to ever be a starter but I think he can be like a Patrick Patterson/Mike Scott type of player off the bench

he's crafty enough to have a nice nba career imo . he reminds me of Glen Rice more than Tracy Murray or Morrison. His Defense is a bit underrated from what i've seen . would be a great fit for the Grizzlies if he happens to fall in the draft.

His shooting ability combined with his size make a pretty good candidate for a long NBA-career in my opinion. He plays very smart and seems to be very competitive. However he won't be ablled to play the 3 in NBA for his lack of quickness and he is undersized for a 4. Therefor i think he can be a starter on a mediocre team, but would be better cast in a back-up role as a scorer off the bench on a good team.

Too slow to play the wing and too small to play the 4.... He's probably going to bounce around the league for a couple a years and then end up in Europe.

People say that they don't see color, yet a white prospect is always compared with another white player, even if they have nothing in common.

He can shoot and play the 3, he's Parsons/Morrison. WTF?

I wasn't comparing him to morrison specifically as a player, but moreso his body of work at a mid major the season before coming into the NBA. Morrison put up ~28 PPG, 6 RPG, 2 APG on 50/43/77 shooting that season. Pretty similar to mcdermott.
And yeah, the parsons comparison makes no sense. Completely different players.

Had no idea he dropped 39 and 7 on Villanova. Pretty impressive.

He reminds me a lot of a shorter Rashard Lewis, before the injury.

And if he keeps growing, he can be Love or Bonner.
