Post#1 » by aad » Tue Feb 25, 2014 4:21 am

Its really hard for me to be a fan of the nba right now with my favorite team being so bad its nothing to look foward to no draft pick this summer bad pieces like smith and jennings thats still gonna be here next season gores being to cheap to hire a real coach

Im a big fan of dumars I really cant see no other person running the team but I mus admit its time to get someone new in that front office I been wanting to take my wife and kids to some pistons game but im afraid they gonna lose yes im a sore loser

Yup, I know what you mean. This is least interested I've been in basketball since I first started watching. My hope is that we just tank the season, get our pick, fire Dumars, and hope the new GM dumps Smith and Jennings. Apparently we were shopping Smith hard before the deadline so that gives me hope. I think there is a possibility that we can turn this team around if we can retain our pick and dump Smith. It seem like teams were willing to take him off our hands for expirings. We can then draft or sign a PG and SF and spend the rest of our energy developing our draft pick, KCP, Monroe, and Drummond and shopping Jennings until we find a buyer.

Anymore? This team hasn't been fun to watch for 5 years.

Our Summer League games gets the fanbase more excited these days.

often times i dont know whether i want to watch youtube videos of people mowing lawns or watch Detroit Pistons basketball. I feel like both are around the same level of entertainment

Funny thing is I may be more willing to pay the guy and watch him mow the lawn than I am to pay to watch the Detroit Pistons attempt to play basketball

and to think the organisation was happy enough to not make a single move during the trade period, aswell as not hiring an established coach (who was successful coaching a similarily setup team!) to take over when the oppurtunity is there after hiring unexperienced coaches for the last 5+ years

What do people expect at this point in the season?

The team isn't making the playoffs- that's painfully apparent to anyone who isn't the Pistons GM and owner.

Now, losing is about the best course of action for this team; which isn't going to be fun to watch and experience. We're playing for losses, which is almost worse than playing for nothing. But, this is another constraint placed upon the team by bad ownership and management.

This is over-simplifying, but how hard can it be to:

1) When you have cap-space sign complimentary players who aren't stars, and never will be, but who have good work ethic and are good team-mates, to average-to-slightly-overpaid contracts.
2) Draft at a moderate-to-well level.
3) Hire coaches with a semi-decent resume at NBA level.

It really is that easy, isn't it? And yet we have only done number 2 over recent years.

I hate that Dumars always goes after "fallen hero" free-agents and thinks their bad-attitude/habits can be curbed. Fair play for taking that gamble, but even if Gores had not demanded (if that's in fact what he did do) play-offs I still think Dumars would have signed Jennings and Smith as he seems obsessed with trying to turn incosistent players into consistent ones. And it always costs us. Should have just kept it simple JD, should have just kept it simple.

I just couldn't watch anymore its too frustrating right now. This defense + whatever Smith & Jennings do on offense is just too much for me. When a new GM comes in and cleans up some of this mess i can enjoy watching Pistons games again.
The most frustrating thing is that Dumars has set back the franchise again for another few years with Cheeks, wasting capspace on Smith and Jennings - giving up Knight and Middleton on rookie deals and potentially hurting the development of Drummond & Monroe - yeah and that pick might be gone too.
The only thing i look forward to is the day Dumars is fired.

Drummond is the only thing making us even somewhat watchable. The worst thing about it imo is that we are not playing up to our talent level. Yes, our pieces don't fit particularly well, but I don't think that the roster is as bad as it has performed thus far, talent wise.

At least last year we got to the young guys play/develop knowing that we had another draft pick coming up to add to our core.

This is completely and totally inexcusable. Our FO sucks.
