Wizards Sign Kwame Brown

Washington, D.C. - Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has signed F/C Kwame Brown to a two-year contract.

"Kwame is a proven veteran who brings years of experience as a defender of the paint and rebounder to solidify our second unit," said Grunfeld. "He will be a valuable addition as we make our push over these last 28 games of the season to put ourselves in the best possible position."

Giving Ariza 10 minutes at PF would also free up 10 minutes for either Porter, Rice or Miller.

Unfortunately, I think we're going to see more Al Harrington at the 4. Randy has in his mind that Ariza is a "small forward" and Harrington is a "power forward"

The irony of course is that Ariza is the better defender and rebounder.

Agreed which is why the loss of Nene will likely hurt a lot more than some would expect. I certainly think we could survive going small, sliding Ariza to the 4 against 2nd unit defenses and hopefully mixing in some developmental minutes for Porter & Rice at the 2/3 but Wittman doesn't appear to be the type of coach that's willing to go that route.

So instead we've got Big Al and playing Big Al is like playing Eric Maynor at PG. Someone said it correctly, Al is a tank commander at this stage. He may make some 3s but everything else is going to be terrible. Booker also makes life a lot harder for Gortat as evidenced by Nene's earlier absence this year. Gortat isn't really good enough to hold the fort down by himself. Teams with legit size are going to eat us alive now especially if Witt refuses to go small to create match up problems.

My question is, now were dependent on Booker more than ever. Will he be able to handle it? For all those that thought Booker was a possible starter or even fringe starter in the league, now is his moment. So what happens in two weeks or so when he inevitably goes down with some new injury/ailment?

I guess that rules out Etan Thomas vs Brendan Todd Haywood battling in a steel cage for the final roster spot.

Waiting for the crap-tacular Drew Gooden signing with baited breath...
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Career-wise Gooden has been more productive. Amundson does have the advantage of having played this season(although very few minutes with little production) and being a little younger. I think either(or both) would be an improvement over Harrington and Singleton.

...which means that Gooden has had plenty of time to grow out that crazy mullet-fro. Sign him up and let the hilarity continue!

Anyone know why/how Gooden ended up living in Bethesda? Seems random. Does he have ties to the area somehow? just curious.

I does seem a bit strange. It looks like his charity foundation does work in California, but he can probably do that with occasional visits.

Actually it's probably not that strange. Bethesda has changed so much in the last decade. I saw Lebron James walk right past me in Friendship heights a few years ago when he was shopping with his posse. Literally it was him surrounded by 20 dudes.

I agree with you on this being a great time to play Ariza at PF, and thus give Porter and Rice backup time at SF.

It is extremely difficult to be a Wizard fan at times. Seeing all Wittman's hope be in players like Harrington or Gooden is frustrating. I could understand if they were coming off of years of success with one team. But no, EG picks names he recognizes. Guys with years of downward productivity. At the same time Porter is glued to the bench.

It makes no sense.

What probably made me like Randy in the beginning is that he actually gave the young guys a chance, and they played hard for him. Now he's becoming more like his predecessor and not trusting his youth at all. It must be difficult to play hard for a guy who has no confidence in you. Oh well...
