HEAT sign Liggins to a 10 day contract

Post#1 » by xMADEinDADEx » Tue Feb 25, 2014 5:10 pm

According to NBA.com, Heat have signed DeAndre Liggins to a 10 day contract.

Liggins had been playing for the Heat's NBA Development League team, the Sioux Falls (S.D.) SkyForce. He was averaging 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.5 steals and was named a D-League All-Star.

The 6-foot-6 Liggins played last season for the Oklahoma City Thunder and averaged 1.5 points in 39 games. The Thunder waived him in September following his arrest for domestic violence.

ultimate role player. willing to do all the dirty work and doesn't try ti go for the limelight that has always been Liggins. Now to see if he can stick. I love the 10 day contract because we are still not out of it if Granger or Fredette prove to be a better option
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

I'm pretty sure it changes nothing. In fact they could cut him in 10 minutes if they wanted to. Correct? I believe someone this year was signed to a 10 day contract and then cut immediately. Someone else might be able to give more info

I really, really like Liggins. His comment about doing all the little things is awesome and shows that he's ready to instantly contribute. He's a great defender and a shaky shooter, but he can help to alleviate the pressure of Battier/LeBron on defensive matchups.

they could cut him whenever they want to, but seems like a waste of time. A vet at this point makes the most sense, we dont need youth RIGHT NOW. We need it next season.

Can anyone enlighten me why did the Heat sign Liggins? Can he contribute to the team? Or it is just a diversion by Pat?
To succeed, attitude is equally as important as ability.

As long as he plays good defense and can rebound, I'm all for it.

I hope they keep him and use him.

He's like Thabo Sefolosha.

He's 25 years old, tall and long, athletic, has decent ball skills, plays defense, shoots the three at a decent clip and he already knows how the Heat plays.

Liggins would be perfect to bolster the defense with some athleticism.

Why give up on that for a washed up Danny Granger, when the Heat already has a washed up Ray Allen and a washed up Rashard Lewis, and a washed up Haslem .

I like how the Heat hasn't been panicking and acquiring every single buy out and every single player that was up for sell.

Sometimes it's best just to do the little things.

He won't sniff the court outside of garbage time, is my guess. I would like to be wrong.

He'll probably take all of Beasley's minutes because wade and Spolestra do not hate him

It's a good marketing move to try to attract good players to the Skyforce. We tell players we are a team that looks to the D league and have a track record of NBA tryouts and the team will be able to attract better players.

Saturday's deadline only means that a player who is previously in another team's roster needs to be cut/bough out by March 1 in order to be eligible to be on another's team playoff roster. In other words, we'll see if Butler and/or any other players get cut by Saturday. After that we can sign them at ANY time.

I kinda like the signing. He was highly recomended by their coaching staff. Sounds like he is a young 3 and D guy in the mold of Sefelosha and that would be a nice addition to the time. He is young, has good size and somewhat athletic, hopefully he plays well with us and turns into a rotational player for the future. And if Riley feels we need a Caron Butler or Danny Granger or etc we can cut Tony Douglas.
