And now...last 5 games he hasn't even cracked 25 minutes...and he's been sat entire 4th quarters. I know DMo has been doing better as of late, but (and again I come back to the coaching stff) I just wonder if all this inconsistent playing time starts to get into the heads of the players. DMo has been splitting minutes almost equally with TJones.
I still think TJones is the better player.
i've focused on jones for the past few weeks or so mainly in the first quarter. my observations:
- moves very well, likely because he's virtually unknown and no focus is given to him
- gets the easy buckets through interior passes from dwight as he's doubled, lobs at point blank range
- is a big part why we gain big leads in the first quarters because as the game progresses he gets cut off, boxed out by defenders and easy buckets disappear
- has a really slow release, which makes him a terrible face-up player although he can use his size and athleticism to gain a few steps into the key
- defense was overrated, usually gets the block on broken plays of offense. personally i don't remember him getting a straight up block on somebody because he solely outworked them.
jones might be the better player individually at this point, but dmo has been improving drastically and i think fits better with the team aspect. it might be early, but if i was mchale i'd change up the starting lineup. a lot of what jones contributes can be done easily by the other starters, dmo's role as the starter would be doing the small things as the glue guy which i think is more valuable to this group.
