stephenson learns about $$

Post#1 » by iefow » Thu Feb 27, 2014 7:01 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm a long time Pacers fan from the Netherlands (Smits legacy, I guess). I never post here, but this little paper clipping might go unnoticed by you guys otherwise :)

Rough translation of the text: Stephenson needs to learn about money... so his assignment was 'lay out a million on the tabel, just to see how much that really is :-)

Welcome, iefow. :)

Saw that one on the Pacers' facebook page. And more than the article, what amazed me more is knowing how many uncultured haters there are, posting ignorant comments without reading what the article is all about.

It's really nice to know that Lance and the Pacers, notably the youngsters, are being groomed to be true professionals. Lance's got a star-studded career in front of him and kids like him needs these lectures on how to take care of their hard-earned money.

Tnx :-)

And I agree. The Pacers really take their responsibilty by including this kind of training for their young stars. Most amazingly, why isn't this included as a mandatory training for all NBA draftees? Would make sense?

Welcome aboard!

I think these topics are addressed in the rookie symposiums, and now I think the NBA players association has some mandatory lessons for each team, but some teams take it more serious than others.

So long as these classes aren't just a way to sell access to players to slummy money managers, it's a great thing to do.

Lance definitely is in a position to learn this. His 4 year deal that is wrapping up was only for $3.4m total! After taxes and agent fees, he's likely only gotten around $2m himself, total! For 4 years. Holding $1m is probably just as big a deal to him as it would be to all of us! And with his big payday coming, we all hope for the best for him.

Welkom aan boord iefow! Good to have a fellow Dutchie knocking about, I suppose like me you decided to be different and support the Flying Dutchman rather than the Bulls ;)

Yep! My basketball mates in high school were all Bulls fans, but I guess that was true for most playground games around the globe back then. The Pacers appealed to me because of Miller's sharp shooting (I got a thing for 3-point specialists), Dale Davis's banging under the board and of course Smit's hookshot.

Tnx! :-)

Didn't know that about Lance's paycheck. Nice to see some of this inside information, with this article and your insights :-)
