Still crossing my fingers for artest. Artrst has no other choice now. San antonio is basically the only other contender that needs his services.

It feels like MWP was meant to be a Spur at some point. He's probably at least 2-3 years past his prime but in 10-15 mins a game he might still have an impact.

Re: Granger
Man I'm so disappointed by this.
We always seem to dodge these type of free agents and they end up landing elsewhere.
Granger would have been great here.
Gives us a stretch 4 option who also can spell Leonard at the 3
If arrest buys a delorean and goes back 3 years and brings back that version of himself I'd have him.
After nearly having Granger settling for Artest feels tantamount to a consolation prize.

Re: Granger
I have to wonder if many of these guys stay away from SA because the idea of playing for Popovich intimidates them. Most of the FA buyouts this year have been coddled and babied their entire careers and maybe they aren't comfortable having their play possibly criticized or demanded they play within a system to get playing time.
I'm sure Pop potrays himself as more of a badass to the media than he actually is to his team but there is no denying that he demands more from his players than other coaches, which is what makes him great.
It's frustrating seeing all these moves by everyone else. But then I think to myself that all these other teams aren't better than us so they need to make moves more than we do. I still think we need another wing who can play defense though. Last year we kind of lucked out in that other teams did the dirty work for us and took out OKC (we matchup up terribly with them again this year). I still think OKC could have beaten us in a series last year, even without Westbrook.

Re: Granger
Not really a surprise that FAs don't want to play in San Antonio
LAC probably sold Danny the idea that they have no decent SFs (Barnes is a backup SF playing starting minutes and Dudley has sucked balls in LAC), so it was an easy choice for him.
SA would never promise him minutes and he would never be able to start with Leonard here.
I don't care much quite honestly.

Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

And Butler's gone to OK City. No new backup SF for us I guess

Re: Granger
I'm not too disappointed honestly. All these players becoming available are flawed in someway. If Granger had a lot left in the tank he wouldn't have been available now and for this cheap. I'd bet dollars to dumb asses like him that he doesn't have that much of an impact on a team that has been and still is destined to be second round fodder.
As for Butler, he can't shoot the three, so no thank you end of story. Have fun with that OKC.
If we pick up Jamison or MWP they are injury insurance. We have a dope 9 man rotation right now.
Parker/Mills/Green/Ginobili/Kawhi/Marco/Splitter/Diaw/Duncan
I also believe there is something in Daye the spurs can use. I know I am in the minority, but Pop has always found guys 6'10 and above that can shoot the three useful. Granger and Butler aren't changing our championship aspirations too much. Health and execution are our two worst enemies right now. We have a diverse roster that can match up with any team big or small. We missed chip 5 because of our lack of execution. Miami didn't beat us, they were lucky we beat us.

Re: Granger
To also justify a 9 man rotation when healthy.
5 Positions : 48 minutes per position = 240 minutes / 9 people = 26.7 minutes per player.
That's not including Ayers who has been getting more minutes than I'd like him to get. Throw in the veteran we are destined to bring in, the minutes are going to be pretty slim pickin's. Just some food for thought.

Re: Granger
I'm not too fussed with missing either of the two.
What is funny though, is that both players seem to think they deserve a championship or something.
If it was a brand new season and they wanted the chance at a ring that bad, there is no way in hell they'd sign the deals they have.
And I know this is just end of season business but I think it is stupid. Two useless players who suddenly think they are wanted? Hell, of course you are wanted when the asking price is $0.

Re: Granger
TBH I don't see any of these guys making much of an impact. This buyout period has been better talentwise than years past, but the pick of the litter was Granger, and let's face it, he's cooked.

Re: Granger
Well, Diaw made an impact here after coming from Charlotte. I'm hoping they don't have that kind of impact there on those teams.
Personally, I don't think Granger is going to do much in LAC. Atleast nothing that will matter.
The Butler to OKC signing is underrated though. OKC's backup SF is Perry Jones man... That's basically their weakest position. And with OKC often going into small ball lineups, there are minutes at SF to be had. At the same time, this year they haven't really had that Harden/Kmart guy who provides instant offense off the bench. Reggie Jackson could be that guy judging from his 2 games againts us, but he hasn't provide that consistently because he's been starting when Westbrook was injured. Jeremy Lamb hasn't done it consistently either. Caron Butler is a scorer and he can be this scorer. If Caron was in OKC from the start of the season, I have no doubt this works out. But I'm hoping he doesn't have enough time to grasp all the offense and that he's feeling like he doesn't want to step over anyone's toes and just fit in so he doesn't become that sparkplug he needs to be.

Re: Granger
Lamb has been okay off the bench. I think Butler is finished. But hey, they've managed to squeeze production out of fossils like Fisher and corpses like Perk, so anything is possible.
I think the player with the most potential to have an impact is Jimmer with Chicago. Maybe he is ultimately a bust but he was drafted to a bad team and the change of scene could be just what he needs to jumpstart his career.
Never a good sign when you're a buyout so early on, but maybe he can turn it around.
