Noah Vonleh, Marcus Smart, McCallum thoughts

I will start by saying I watch NO college basketball, so I'm wondering what you all think. Ray McCallum has impressed me these last few games. Sure he's raw and needs to learn a bit, and I don't see him as the next Nash, or D-Rose, but I think he looks like a potential starting PG on a contender in maybe the next two years. If we assume we'll pick 6th, who d you think the smart pickup is? Vonleh, or Smart if they're there. It seems like Vonleh could pair with Cousins (from watching his scouting report video), perfectly. He could be the defending presence we need next to Cousins, and they would develop next to each other well.

I do like IT, but I see him as more of a fantastic 6th man than a starter, and I'm not sure he fits perfectly with our team until we get a good Defender in the frontcourt to catch all the PG's that muscle past him.

In this scenario I'm envisioning Cousins at C/PF, Rudy Gay opting out and re-signing in the 12 mil per year range with us, and B-Mac continuing to develop.

So, if that were all true, Smart, Vonleh, or someone else in the 6th - 7th pick range?

Initially, I wasn't too impressed with McCallum but dude has legit defensive talent. He impressed me last game with his defensive effort & intensity.

His offensive game isn't too shabby right now but it's improving.

Another year or so of experience, I could this guy challenging IT for the starting PG position imo.

From what I've seen he has the talent to be an average scorer and distributor max, with a possibility to be a noteworthy defender.

Maybe you are right but I still want to see him for the last remaining games. Good time to see what he's got.

I agree, with our terrible guard play, he should have had a shot much earlier.

You can see him relaxing a bit now, that's some progress so far. Probably will take him a few more games to be in mode still.

Yeah, I think it's safe to say he won't be Nash or Rose anytime soon. I like his defensive effort. Hasn't really had a chance to show much of his talent, but if he can defend and get the ball to the guys who need it, he's a much welcome addition.

Not a huge fan of Vonleh. He appears to be a solid defender, but he's nothing spectacular IMO. Reminds me a little of Tristan Thompson. Has some interesting skills but besides that, eh. I was thinking about Smart recently. The one thing I think might get him through is he's probably big enough to play some SG in the NBA. He plays hard defensively so that's good. Still reminds me of Rodney Stuckey. Neither player is someone you come out of the draft and start throwing parades over. One good tourny could change that though.

One guy I'm starting to look at is Clint Capela. Could maybe be this drafts Serge Ibaka. Raw but he looks to possess some interesting skills. Having not been able to do much at the deadline to shave more money off the cap I think it might be necessary to go international with the pick if they don't outright trade it. If they draft an international player they could always let him stay overseas thus saving them some money in the interim to re-sign Isaiah.

I've seen every Kings game this year and haven't seen anything from McCallum. If he was another team's second rounder, I doubt anyone here would see promise (yet, at least). In any event, McCallum should not be a reason we don't draft a PG with the 6th-7th. IT shouldn't be either. The pick could back up IT and if he turns out to be better, then swap their roles; if not, then we have a backup PG--something we don't have now. I'm not saying we should target a PG. I still think BPA.

The ideal pick is Smart at that range, if he is not available, then Vonleh.
Anyway you have to make trades, but I do like the Thomas-Smart-McLemore (plus a vet) backcourt going forward.

I see some smart defensive effort, and I think he's an authentic PG. Someone who can distribute the ball and score some. He may not fit the mold of the high scoring PG's we see today, but if Ben develops, he doesn't need to be. We would get our scoring from Cuz, Gay, Ben, and IT off the bench in a Jason Terry style mode in my scenario.

But does this Kings front office? Still not a play making pass first PG in the lot. If this team didn't have two 20 ppg high usage players there already it might be intriguing but how intriguing is Marcus Smart and McLemore getting 10 shots a night between them going to be? If they bring in a shot hungry player in the draft, they need to make moves to either accommodate that player, or the rest of the team. Ah, the broken record still plays! :lol:

I dont see Smart or Von making a large impact on our team. Mine as well use the value of this 2014 draft pick to shed salary and pick up a defensive big.

Id rather trade down with philly for #11 + Thad Young for our #6 + JT or Terry/Outlaw (philly fans are all about this). Flip Thad Young to a third team for a good player. Draft Cauley-Stein.
