Thunder sign Butler

Post#1 » by Balkman32 » Fri Feb 28, 2014 4:00 pm

Caron Butler is now a member of the OKC Thunder. Great signing. I thought we had a good chance in signing him since we have alot of Fisher playing SG and Lamb playing SF. Caron with Jackson and Lamb gives the 2nd unit a boost.

Sure.
If it cuts Fisher's minutes, I'm all for it.

A great move, veteran presence, deeper bench ...... and finally we signed someone! I hope that he will take some of Thabo minutes too.

Great signing! We needed an experienced winning vet like this heading into the playoffs.

I love Reggie and Lambo, but you can see there will be times they will struggle and we need a guy like Butler to step in.

Why cut his minutes?
He has been one of the more efficient and effective players for the Thunder this year.

I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't trust him when the POs come around, he's getting old.

Good defensive player. I honestly think he's better than SEF

Looking way to far into the future, it would be huge against the heat, sef is too small to guard Lebron but butler can at least hold his own.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

I honestly have no idea how minutes will be distributed now

Westbrook/Jackson
Thabo/Butler/Lamb/Fisher/Jackson
Durant/Butler/Thabo/Jones
Ibaka/Durant/Collison/Jones
Adams/Ibaka/Collison

Too confusing to try to hand out minutes. Really think this will cut into Lamb and Jones a lot, Fisher's minutes probably won't change.

Ideally, from my perspective, I think he should cut most into thabo's and jones' playing time.

I agree about Thabo, and Jones seems like the obvious one..

My question for you guys.. I agree Fisher has been great this year and has earned his minutes.. BUT this is his last season.. We need to continue developing guys like Lamb and Jones. How do you feel about halting there development?

I see Butler taking a lot of valuable minutes away from Lamb but I can see why they did it.

He has actually had a few great scoring games for the Bucks this year, he could really come in handy off the bench

On that subject (and I'm by no means a big Fisher fan), Fisher has been great the last couple of months. He's pretty consistently been one of the top 5 players on the team, which I find it crazy I would say such a thing... They should cut his minutes out of these crazy Fisher-Jackson-Westbrook lineups and give those to Butler. With all of that said... where the Thunder are now, you play the guys that will win a championship, not the ones that you can help develop. We had the same choice last year with Lamb and (correctly) made the decision to play the guys that would get us wins.

Separate from that... I'm a little disheartened that Jones will most likely be completely out of the rotation now. He's been a solid contributor when playing. Lamb has been pretty off lately, so finding someone to take those minutes, or at least be another option if he keeps continuing to struggle, is helpful.

Overall, great signing. He's a guy that can score a bit and has a decent all around game. He can shoot, which is helpful. I don't see the big downside here, other than the potential limiting of minutes of developing players.

Man! This is pretty solid. They got the cap space to do this which is great, but as far as him taking Thabo out of the starting lineup, I don't think that would happen since Caron unfortunately is not a starting player now at this stage of his career. He's more of a 15-25 minute max player who can get you some buckets and is a nice veteran presence. Thabo is pretty valuable for defense since he defends the opposing team's best players from the 1-3 spots giving breathing room for Westbrook and Durant. In the wild, wild west things will get interesting.

Eh... honestly he is the only player on the team outside of KD i trust and fully know what i will get from.
He will step in during a game or two and hit some needed 3's at the right time. Its Fisher, hes made a career out of doing that.

BTW, this signing is fantastic for the Thunder. I would feel comfortable letting Thabo go after this season if we could retain Caron for a vets min. for a few years or even until he decides to retire.
