Wall didn't have his best defensive game. Beak had a tough first half. Singleton.......sigh.
Nice to see Otto get done burn.

Yes, and that is why I don't know why people call Wall an elite defensive player. He certainly CAN be an elite defensive player and has shown spurts of being one, particularly when the game is on the line. However, for the most part, he consistently allows his man to get past him, preferring to reach in from behind, and he free-lances and gambles way too much.
The problem with Walls defense starts up top.
You can't defend from the trail position and Wall consistently finds himself in exactly that position because of how we play the pick and roll.
We do play ice on occasion, but the vast majority you have Wall fighting over the top of the pick.
I don't understand what their keys are, but to me our PNR defense is all wrong, and part of why we struggle so much giving up easy points inside.

The only good thing about this game was that we got to see OP for an extended amount of time. He probably would have been able to contribute more if randy didn't DNP him every game. Randy needs to be fired if this team wants anything other than a first round exit. I'm not saying it has to happen this year, because it won't, but I'll be highly disappointed if ted doesn't replace him next year.

When they're hot, they're hot, but disciplined teams will pick them apart eventually. I guess it's better than if they hadn't fought their way back.
He's got a long way to go, but hopefully that late three will at least help Porter's confidence.
PS: I looked up Prince's game logs. That's the second highest total he's had in the last two years.
its wittman/system. I dont care if we win out. I want his asz gone day 1 at the end of the year

How is that going to help us ?
It would make him consider upgrading the coaching.

Well send him more messages then. I'll pitch in for some stamps. Send one in a big envelop. With color. Color always works better.

Re: Official Thread - Wizards vs Grizzlies (3/3/14)
Ugh tough loss, comeback came a little too late. The difference tonight was the the benches (34-14) and Prince's hot shooting. The Gasol/Z-Bo v. Gortat/Booker advantage didn't turn out so bad, you got 26 pts. 17 rebs. 9 asts. on 11/25 fgs. and 31 pts. 15 rebs. 3 asts. on 14/25 fgs., respectively.
Beal played a crap first half, but I thinks its fair to say he played fine in the second half say one or two ill-advised jumpers.
In the end, again, it came down to the benches and Prince (he even made that huge two after we had just made our comeback and played great defense for 22 seconds). That 17-2 run could have been quelled by Randy, that's on him. Good news is CHI and CHA look both look to lose tonight, though NJ gained another game on us and are back to .500.
Got to get these two verses Utah Wednesday and @Milwaukee Saturday.

Re: Official Thread - Wizards vs Grizzlies (3/3/14)
Also kudos to Booker, played a solid game. He had his hands full with Z-bo and did his part. I like seeing clutch plays out of Porter. I thought he exuded FAR better defensive effort than Beal. I'm glad Randy left him in for Beal for while, hopefully a light bulb will go of for him. Also, much better offense in the 2nd half out of Beal. Just needs to play on both ends now (although I thought his contests on Courtney Lee were decent in the 3rd quarter).
One last thing, I like the come back as a whole, but John's also gotta play the numbers, can't be trading 2s for conley FTs.
Also, if EG gives Gooden a 2nd 10 day contract something is wrong....

Seraphin would be a huge upgrade over Gooden, Singleton, Harrington or any other stiff they've played at center off the bench.
Defense lost the game tonight. Agree that Porter has to play. I couldn't believe he threw Singleton out there at the 3. But you have to credit the opponent sometimes. They were just better. They might be top 4 in the West right now.

Freudian, because above the neck their coach is leaps and bounds better than Wittman.

He's better than Lionel Hollins? I can coach that team with Gasol, Randoph, Conley, Prince, Lee and Allen. Smart team. Doesn't need great coaching.
It has been said that the best predictor of future performance is past performance.
Nobody's won any better as a head coach in the minor leagues than Joerger. He won a couple D League titles, a CBA title, and another title in some other league. Joerger did a LOT of the talking in timeouts when Hollins was coach.
He's been NBA Coach of the Month, and the Grizzlies are in the thick of things despite injuries to Gasol and Conley. All Joerger is doing is consistent with what he has done in the past.
In time, I expect Joerger will be considered an all time great coach.

Re: Official Thread - Wizards vs Grizzlies (3/3/14)
with all that being said, there is still something very very very weird going on at VC. We look just like a much better team on the road, even when we lose. Much more pep to our step. Its like our building drains our energy. The only time we have energy is when we are playing a team like Miami or LA but thats because its just like its a road game with the crowd.
I use to email Ted when he would let us and tell him to do something about it. IDK what but he has to get the fans to get into the game more and have more intereaction. Its not just about fans not coming. The one''s that do go are still quiet and people make you feel dumb if you shout. I also think more would go if it were more exciting like the Caps.
Again, I went to games in OKC and its night & day with the atmosphere. The whole crowd cheers non stop. I think our team would really benefit from it. The funny thing is that in the past I awlays felt confident at home, even when we had bad teams. Its like we alwways played better at home. I thought the boring crowd use to work in our favor because the road team couldnt get up for the games. Now its the reverse and its hurting us or something. Still, these guys are pros and shouldnt need a boost to play wth energy. If you can do it on the road then you should be able to do it at home

Thought Otto played well defensively and he hit two big shots. Gotta boost his confidence.
The interior defense was open season.

This is really all I wanted to see out of Otto at this point. Just a flash -- a glimmer -- of talent to show that he *might* turn into a legit-to-good NBA SF.
He's looked nervous out there up until this point. Maybe this is the game that gets him to shrug off the butterflies and play like he belongs.

Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

I don't care if Wittman is fired. However, it cracks me up that there hasn't been any fire Wittman chants in 6 games. As soon as the Wizards lose, they resume. As I've said before, the players get all the credit for wins and the coach gets all the blame for losses.
And, I would like to see Otto play just as much as anyone. But, aside from the wide open 3 point shot, he did NOTHING else while in the game. In fact, he took a horrible shot off one leg when Booker was wide open on the block and committed a bad foul on Prince. Singleton sucks a**, but its not like Otto was lighting it up.
Bottom line is the Wiz were without Nene, Webster and Seraphin. Miller did not have a very good game. Beal sucked in the first half. Wall and Beal were both bad on the defensive end the entire game. And, oh yeah, or bench still pretty much sucks. To me, it looks kind of silly blaming Wittman for this loss simply because he did not play Otto and Temple more minutes. That is not the reason why we lost tonight.

Playoff teams must identify their postseason roster before the playoffs begin. They are allowed up to 15 players and can designate two as inactive for each game. Players are eligible to be on a team's playoff roster provided they were on the team for at least one regular season game, and were not on another NBA team's roster after March 1.
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Witt is a great defensive coach, horrible offensive coach, average coach overall which makes us an average team. Its just like the other teams fans use to say about Flip. They could win alot of regular season games but always got dominated in the playoffs because its all good defenses and they know how to take those stupid jump shot garbage away.
Its just so much of a struggle anytime we play a good defense. Looks like college crap. All I want is a pro Wall offense because I think he could be superior in it which would make us superior. I also hate Witt's sub patterns. They suck and cost us games
