Hey Wizards fans!

Excuse the grammar and spelling, as I'm typing from my phone but We gotta get out there and really rally for Wall to at least all nba third team( I think he deserves 2nd) and maybe a all nba defensive, at the pg. I've posted about this last year I believe but we as wizards fans, we are very hard on our own players and does not like being called homers, so we're sometimes too optimistic about players like Wall and Beal. Wall was ridiculously hyped coming out of Kentucky and did not perform to those crazy expectations( rose is wall floor) but I've noticed us for the sake of "fair" put wall down, only to talk up another pg or player. Wall is leading the nba in assist. 5th in steals, 5th overall in efficiency and 2nd as a pg. Those are the makings of a superstar, but we can't utter those words here. Wall had flaws like every other player but his has been magnetized more than his peers. Part of me likes that this board is optimistic, but the nba is not. This board is a reflection of the crowd at the Verizon center.... Yeah there's people there but they're rooting for other teams or talking about their team(negatively). We need to stay positive! Let's get out there and root for Wall! Wall is the type of player that lives for praises. The Kentucky wall that was known for his charm and smile is coming back. He's having fun out there, let's join him!

I think the tide is turning on public perception of Wall. He made the All Star Game, won the dunk contest, and has his Wizards being considered a respectable team.

I'm not sure he deserves an All NBA award just yet so I won't be broken up about it if he doesn't get mentioned. It's tough to put him ahead of Paul, Curry or Dragic at this point.

It would be nice to see him selected for the Defensive Team. My guess is that, statistically, there might be a couple of guys a little better, but Wall definitely has a case. And if he does make it, it'll only give him more credibility (and more benefit of the doubt) with the refs going forward.

Drink a 5 Hour Energy and start again.

Is magnet Wall really leading the league in assists? I could see 3rd team, but 2nd team, I don't think he's there yet.

There are 6 possible spots for Wall on the all nba team. Dragic, Demar, Wall, Curry, Parker, Paul, Irving , lillard, Lowry, Conley are all I can think off the top. Paul has been injured prone this yr but still may be a spot but after curry and maybe Parker, I feel like Wall has a little edge

I'd be happy if Wall made 2nd, but Dragic and the other three probably get the top four spots. I'll bet Wade's in the conversation too.

6 spots for guards and the list of candidates is long.

I think it'll go:

Paul Harden 1st team
Curry Wade 2nd team
Westbrook Dragic 3rd team

Also, if you'll notice 5 of those 6 are in the West. Yeah, the West is good. So, while Wall's all-star spot is a feather in his cap, I don't think he compares very favorably in an all-league setting yet. Next season, probably. He has a good shot of knocking off Westbrook/Dragic next season if he can put up double-digit assists and up his shooting percentages.

I do see a spot for him on all-defense though. No Rondo, no Kobe, and increased national spotlight = All-D for JW. He should have gotten it last season imo over Avery Bradley.

Westbrook better not be there with the amount of games he has missed. Kyrie better not be there either with that crap record the Cavs have in the weak East.

I think the guys named, along with Lillard will get in over Wall. I think both Lillard and Dragic get it because I think Lillard is on a great team and is more hyped while the Suns came out of nowwhere and everyone is on the Dragic bandwagon. I dont think either have played as good as Wall and I also think Dragic plays in a stat friendly system but it is what it is. If we finish strong like we are now then Wall could slide in the back door

Statistical argument in favor of Wall making All-NBA -- TOTAL production. Among guards, Wall is 5th in total production (at least according to my analysis) behind: Stephen Curry, Kyle Lowry, Chris Paul, and Goran Dragic. Wall is basically a heartbeat behind Dragic, but he isn't catching Paul, Lowry or Curry.

BUT, Lowry won't be picked for All-NBA, so Wall's effectively 3rd or 4th in total production.

Argument against: among guards, Wall's per minute production (minimum 1,000 minutes) ranks 9th among guards -- behind Paul, Curry, Dragic, Wade, Lowry, Harden, Conley and Lawson. He'd need to boost his PPA from its current 150 to ~165 to crack the top 6.

To nate's thought about Wall as a possible All-Defense selection...the defense part of PPA has him 7th among guards on defense and third among PGs. So, he's very close to All-Defense status too with a quarter of the season still to go.

Interesting that Walls defensive PPA is so high. I actually think he's regressed in that area simple because his ability to guard dribble penetration has been horrible.

^^Gotta disagree with you there. He has had some awful games, but for the most part , and especially lately, he has been tremendous. He has some plays where his help defense is just phenomenal, way outside of what most guards do, and it rarely takes him out of position.

Nivek, how does PPA account for defense? NBA defense by an individual seems like it would be hard to track by stats. I've been curious for a while, but just now asking.

More seriously though, it's a combination of individual defensive stats and team-level on-court data.

Kendall Marshall and Chris Paul doesn't qualify right now. Seeing Wall's responsibilities and teammates, fair to say he's up there. 20pts n 9 ast. No Blake and/or Jordan to throw lobs to. Kendall Marshall only has one real responsibility and that's to distribute. I don't think the suns will make the playoffs, therefore I don't think Dragic will get anything over Wall. I just need Wall to raise his fg to at least 44% this season. Next season I'm hoping for a real 20 and 10 season on like 47% fg and 35% 3ptfg. Lillard has been buzzing down. On other messageboards, Wall seems to be the talk of the town

blazinskillz is not wrong (at least, as of today):

http://stats.nba.com/?PlayerOrTeam=Play ... ry=Assists

Lawson and Wall are atop the "leader board" averaging 8.8 apg.

You should check out the general board some time. Granted, there are a few posters still under the impression that he shoots the ball worse than Rondo with his hand in a cast, but a majority of posters have positive things to say about Wall now. Compare that to 9-12 months ago when you couldnt have a Wizards/John Wall thread without a million posts about Rose and Kyrie being better. Shut them up good, he did.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Actually I take that back, don't visit the general board. It is a stupid place.
