I heard that Ross once bit the head off of a wild lion.

Ross will go for a dunk on a guy if he has the chance EVERY TIME.
The issue is that when he drives, he's so quick he usually is past his man and tries to do a fancy move.
We've seen it with 360 spin layups, with up and unders, with that beauty teardrop he's developed.
Once he gains some muscle, size and bulk on his frame (which is very lithe and agile) he will be unstoppable. It just comes with time.
I think JV had the same kind of body until the training staff put 20 lbs of upper body weight on him and completely sapped his bodies development.
Exactly, just a few games ago vs Cleveland he almost dunked on Jarrett Jack on the break.
He does avoid contact and this translates to his inability to draw fouls. In Feb, he only had 8 free throw attempts drawing only 5 founds over 13 games in the entire month. Compare this to DeRozan who had 12 FT in one game against GS on Sunday.
He should watch Harden tapes. Harden will drive into and through traffic and gets to the line often. If Ross wants to take it to the next level, he needs to improve a lot in this area.
yeah, young guards entering the NBA should really study Harden's game, especially how he gets into the lane and draws fouls. It's ugly but extremely effective, and Harden is proof that you don't need to be uber-athletic to do it

You know, I have a friend who is a die-hard cavs fan, you could also classify him as a borderline raptors' hater.
He told me that Terrence Ross will become our Paul George, that DeRozan is great, but he's nothing special - and that Ross' will become our best player in a few years.
This thread reminded me of that conversation & you know what.. I'm starting to believe him.

Harden is exceptionally athletic. Maybe the haircut and beard make him look old and slow, but he's one of the more explosive athletes in the league.

I still remember the day I flipped when we picked ross in the draft. I was like who the **** is this guy, but so far you gotta appreciate what hes done so for. Repping T.O and winning the slam dunk, 51 pt game, and overall just improving as a player

I don't think he's slow, and I agree he's very athletic. But he doesn't make it evident in his game, which is what I'm talking about.

Re: Terrence Ross is unbelievable
Ross kind of got dealt a **** hand from the get go. The fan base had hopes for a series of players and Ross was not one of them, on top of that we passed on Drummond. Everyone kind of labeled him a bad pick based on those circumstances and hes done nothing but surprise people every game.
When you heard his name of draft day. im sure, like myself you were pissed. Now we have people making threads about him potentially being the best SG in the league...funny how things work out

A superstar? Relax there, you guys use that term so loosely in here.
Ross will grow to be a very good player BUT if he wants to reach superstar status he needs to live at the ft line, and thats somethimg he has never shown even during his college days. In order to live at the line, he's gotta develop some handles too, something he doesnt have yet.

I think its great that Terrence has the young, and hard working Demar Derozan as a mentor.

Once this happens he will lose his athleticism and it will negatively impact his shooting touch. Sound familiar?

ms25 wrote:I will hold my judgement on what type of player he'll be until towards the end of next year, lol not saying he'll stop getting better but "superstars/stars" are generally noticeable around that time in their career. Potential stars usually show signs around then. Right now, I already think he'll be one of the best defenders in the league at his position, he's really impressed me and I'm a huge Ross supporter (as you can see in my sig). He needs to become more consistent and like others have mentioned, he needs to improve his ball handling ability. He's shown signs of decent/good passing skills when given the opportunity and he has that fearlessness that elite guys have. I love his attitude, he's never scared to take the shot that will kill the self esteem of his opponent, those dagger shots and he's shown me the ability to make the big shots even if its a small sample, you can certainly see it.
- Needs to get stronger (not necessarily bigger but more wirey strong built)
- Improve ball handling
- Be more consistent
-Watch guys like Ray Allen/D wade, utilize his speed and first step to his advantage. I want him to develop a euro step and watch how D wade drives in. Obviously he probably won't ever have his handles but at least try to develop some of his moves with his first step. Watch Ray Allen and how he frees himself up, Ross is kind of like a poor man's ray allen with more athleticism.
- Try to work out with Demar as much as possible in summer, get his work ethic and other great SG/SFs
- Improve overall of course, keep working on positioning right, not always taking chances on defense, ways to find easier shot etc touch up on all the other stuff but those top points should be his main goals if he really wants to get to that level we all hope he'll get to.
On a side note, I was originally going to say Demar may hold him back but I think that may not be the case. The good news is that Demar/ Ross/Lowry all compliment each other really well so he can still play his game(3 pt shooting) as he won't get as much attention from defenses, Demar can drive in and play his mid range game while Ross can be that outside threat along side Lowry. I'm not sure if the management intend on keeping both Ross/DD together but if they both live up to their potentials then we sure are going to be a team to fear.
I agree. I like what he brings at the moment, but for him to take the next step (beyond role player), he needs to work much harder. Here are a few things that is stopping him from the elite group:
1) Focus - he may lose his focus from time to time, particularly when he made a mistake and trying to think through it
2) Determination - he hesitated when given space to drive past his man. Showed some improvement, but still need better refine on this aspect. Some of his passes are not determine as well, slow pass instead of firm pass.
3) Body contact - on both end, he can be more physical off the ball. Not many free throw means he does not have the strength and experience in drawing contact
4) Offensive technique - no killer move (hesitation, change speed, change direction, fake left and right, spin move, pump fake, etc.)
5) Smartness - currently blindly follow opponent on defense, but can improve by reading their action. Experience can help, such as a screen is coming, he now know what position his opponent is about to go.
Minor improvements may help:
1) Pull up - pull up after pick and roll will help both him and the big get more space
2) Passing - showed some promises on this aspect in his first year, however, his pass is not firm and hard, too easy to be interrupted.
3) Ball handling - kill the ball often, lack of confidence and understanding in protecting the ball. Already showed he can be a very good ball handler, just need better understanding and footwork to turn around.
4) Footwork - always prepare for a spin on both end of the floor can help when changing direction is needed
