Let us say next year we get a SG...
If you had your druthers... What SG would you think would be a good fit into Bud's system and would make us a better team? Give me your offensive and defensive impressions.
What you lookin' at? You all a bunch of ****' a-holes. You know why? You don't have the guts to be what you wanna be? You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your freakin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy."

Beal is quite clearly the best option when you factor in age and upside... zero chance we get him though.

I believe a bill of clean health Horford can land us Beal... especially if Washington sets out in the FA market. The question is would you give up right now ability for upside.

Re: Let us say next year we get a SG...
Where's the "none of the above" option? To obtain any of these guys, their teams will be asking for top dollar. Too narrow focused here.
I know from the T&T board that the WASH fans weren't too keen on dealing Beal for Horford. Most notably, they like how Wall and Beal feed off each other. They also don't like/feel comfortable about any other wing outside of maybe Webster (which is really saying something...). Ariza is a UFA that will go for whoever gives him the most $$; Porter is looking like a bust; Rice is looking like a 2nd round pick; they've already declined Singleton's option. OTOH, they're OK with the front court: they expect to resign Gortat; Nene might not be worth $13M, but he's still a decent player; Booker (PF) and Seraphin (backup C) are solid in their roles.diesel50 wrote:I believe a bill of clean health Horford can land us Beal... especially if Washington sets out in the FA market. Truth is that with all those bigs you mentioned, they are still 18th in the league in rebounding and they lose the rebounding differential per game. Moreover, Only Gortat can be counted on for points in that group. They will have plenty of Free Agent cash and if they investigate a player like Heyward who is bigger and as defensive as Beal, they may have a high quality team with Horf at PF.

Re: Let us say next year we get a SG...
I like bringing in Doron Lamb and seeing if Bud can groom him to something special.
(He seems to have more luck with older, collegiate players.)
He has all the makings of a solid 3 and D player. But while at Kentucky, he at least showed flashes of being a solid playmaker.
He's very attainable, and worse case scenario is he's a contributor off the bench. But I see a diamond in the rough who still has some growing to do.
His scouting report from 2012:

His scouting report from 2012:
Pros: Highly efficient offensive player (50% FG)... Assassin-like scorer (16.5 PPG) ... The mid-range game is his natural comfort zone, but his three-point aptitude has been a revelation (49% as freshman, 52% as soph)Defensive effort is a staple ... Makes up for lack of size with tremendous length and moves well laterally ... His projected role at the next level is already defined: a knock down shooter with well rounded skills and the ability to handle if necessary

Stephenson and that's it. Afflalo will require a pick, Beal is nigh untouchable at the moment, Gordon be it Ben or Eric are both done, and Utah is likely to match Heyward. If we can't wrangle Stephenson just truck on with Kyle, Louis, Jenks and whomever Danny plucks in the draft.

Also, Dion Waiters could be a nice reclamation project. We know he can light up the scoreboard. He just needs to be developed on the defensive end...and learn HOW to play basketball.

So... what you're saying is that the opinion of the team who has the player you want doesn't matter?!?! OK, good luck with that. If you get him, then you're going to have to completely overpay. Glad you're not the GM of my team...diesel50 wrote:Truth is that with all those bigs you mentioned, they are still 18th in the league in rebounding and they lose the rebounding differential per game. Wait... we had the opinion of the Washington Wizards here on RealGM??? Who here is the GM of the wizards? What's his handle? Is it something cool like GMWiz? or WizGM? or WashGM? Dang... I can't believe I missed his insight?

Here's a secret... Everybody here has an opinion... and you may be the biggest fan of the Hawks but you still don't speak for them? Somebody asked how could we get Beal... I said only through Horford. That was my opinion. I gave good reasons for it. I didn't realize I was "Saying the opinion of the Wizards don't matter"?? Really?

I just want to reiterate that Dion Waiters is a young player worth going after hard this offseason. Now that Kyrie the ballhog is down for the season, Dion has been featured as the #1 option and is showing what he's capable of.
Just a snapshot:
His last five games his avg 24ppg and 6 apg on 47% shooting. This month he's avg 19 ppg and 4 apg on 45% shooting. And this is on a team with no real offensive identity. And now this:
I think he’s done a hell of a job these last few games with Ky being out, stepping up making plays...Leaps and bounds from where we were at the beginning of the season -- decision making, being more assertive, talkative, being more receptive to criticism but him also being able to lead others as well.
Imagine what he could do in our offense under Bud's guidance.
His defense needs work, but a sweet shooting SG like Waiters could go very well with a pure pass-first PG like Schroeder.
I really wish Ferry had made a push for him at the trade deadline this year. Back when his stock was the lowest it'll ever be.

I doubt we had the pieces to get waiters. Chris grant (who was the GM at the time) had the problem of overvaluing his own drafted players because of his extremely large ego.

Nah. Cavs GM Chris Grant had been fired weeks before the trade deadline. The Cavs were looking to be buyers and bring in productive vets so they could make a run at a playoff berth and a winning season.

Not 100% I'm buying that Griffin was ready to sell on Waiters though. When he was hired, I thought he might try to make a splash but that didn't pan out. They traded some 2nds and expiring for Hawes, but after that, I really don't remember any substantial rumor they were in except for *selling* Deng.

I doubt the new GM was willing to make such a drastic move after just being promoted. I heard one of the reasons they didnt wait until the offseason to fire Grant because they were scared he was going to burn all of their valuable assets to try to save his job. So I doubt the new GM was willing to make any trades involving any of their key assets until atleast the offseason.

Re: Let us say next year we get a SG...
Hayward or Beal would be my request. Hayward will most likely be matched by Utah though for Teague like money.
I would much rather draft a guy like Jordan Adams than pay Eric Gordon or give up too much for Afflalo. I would give Lou and 2nd rd picks for Afflalo that is about it.

I suppose. But there were a few rumors floating around:
http://www.hoopsrumors.com/dion-waitersIf the Cavs are determined to make a playoff push, they’ll offer Dion Waiters and their 2014 first-round pick in search of veteran help, Ford writes.
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/02/10/cavaliers-interim-gm-says-team-will-be-buyers-at-trade-deadline/Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert had laid out the playoffs as the goal. “I don’t see how you get better and win more games selling,” Griffin said. “We’re going to buy to the extent that it makes us better for the long haul.
http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/231841/Dan-Gilbert-Supports-Mike-Brown-Believes-Cavaliers-Will-Be-Aggressive-At-Trade-DeadlineGilbert expects the Cavaliers to be aggressive in this month's trade deadline.
"I think we’ll be aggressive at the trading deadline -- historically we have, anyway,'' Gilbert said. "I think we will and we potentially have a lot of opportunity there. We’re looking forward to working with David Griffin, and whatever it takes, 24 hours a day for the next two weeks. Hopefully we’ll find opportunities.''
http://www.ibtimes.com/nba-trade-rumors-lakers-cavs-expected-be-busy-trade-deadline-1554077Instead, Dion Waiters could be headed for another team. The ohio.com report states that the shooting guard may be wearing out his welcome within the organization.
In his second season after being drafted fourth overall, Waiters has not developed into a reliable scoring option. He’s averaging 14 points per game, but shooting just over 41 percent from the field. However, he’s still just 22 years old and could have some value on the trade market.

full disclosure, signs were there to the contrary as well:

The team believes second-year guard Dion Waiters is in the beginning stages of understanding the NBA game, leading Pluto to doubt he would be traded outside of a “monster deal.
