"All Star Weekend" GMAT 2014 Offseason Free Agency

Post#1 » by keshmoney » Mon Feb 24, 2014 11:07 pm

Before you make an offer to me, read over all of this very carefully and make yourself familiar with the process/CBA rules. Any illegal contracts WILL be vetoed. It is your job to make sure you are offering a legal contract. If you make a deal, that keeps you from affording a deal that you offered, you MUST inform me and retract your offer. Your roster must be updated with correct salaries and cap space, including cap holds as well as any and all cap space you have. NO EXCEPTIONS.

FREE AGENCY RULES:

All offers should be emailed to GMATAgent2014@gmail.com

- Sign & Trades are allowed for all tiers except for when bidding begins during Tier 4
- You may NOT trade any player you sign to a max contract, UNLESS he is your own max FA that you RESIGNED!
- All other FA's can be traded, no restrictions.
- Amnesty clause must be used prior to FA opening.
- If a player does not receive a contract that they deem fair, they'll drop into the next tier below.
- Any players in Tier 1-4 will NOT sign for contracts less than 2.5 million/year.
- At the end of the game, you must be above the 45 million salary cap floor.
- If you sign players with "cap space", you revoke the right to use the MLE or any other exception sans the Room Mid-Level Exception.
- Any offers sent before or after the deadline will not count and will be promptly deleted.
- This is a "come with your best offer" free agency, there is no negotiating.

SCHEDULE:

Tier 1 - Monday 1:00 PM (EST) - Tuesday 1:00 PM
Tier 2 and RFA - Tuesday 1:00 PM - Wednesday 1:00 PM
Tier 3 - Wednesday 1:00 PM - Thursday 1:00 PM
Tier 4 - All offers over 2.5 mil (Year 1) - Thursday 1:00 PM - Friday 1:00 PM
Tier 4 - All remaining players and offers - Bidding begins on Friday at 2:00 PM

All offers need to be sent in the following format:

Subject: TEAM NAME - Player Name Offer (Tier x)

1. Full contract offer (invalid raises will be ignored)
2. Expected role on team (star, starter, 6th man, backup, etc)
3. Depth Chart
4. Team's current cap space. This must include correct cap holds subtracted for free agents you still hold rights to, first round draft picks you own, and $507,336 cap holds for every open roster spot below 12. The cap is an even $60M.
5. Sales pitch

Example:

LAL - Dwight Howard Offer (Tier 1)

1. Year 1: $20,513,178
Year 2: $21,436,271
Year 3: $22,359,364
Year 4: $23,282,457 (Player Option)

2. Star/Franchise Player

3.

Nash / ?
Kobe / ?
? / ?
Gasol / ?
? / ?

4. $25,000,000

5. Re-sign with us!! We believe you will be an integral part in helping us win multiple championships.

NOTE - You may make multiple offers at a time, but you need to order them by preference and I will do my best to get the highest player on your list.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before you make any deals, you must update your roster to reflect 2014/15 salaries. Show all cap holds (can be found on shamsports.com).

Minimum cap holds: $507,336

Rookie Scale contracts can be found here:

http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/rookie_scale

The veteran minimum salary is $915,243

The salary cap remains $60 million

CBA RULES:

With the new CBA, the maximum salaries are defined by a certain percentage of the cap, and breaks down as:

0-6 Years in NBA: 25% of the cap
7-9 Years in NBA: 30% of the cap
10+ Years in NBA: 35 of the cap

However, there is a catch that the maximum salary can NOT be less than 105% of the players' previous salary.

Here's a little snippet from Larry Coon's NBA CBA FAQ regarding max salaries.

A free agent's maximum salary in the first year of a new contract is never less than 105% of his salary in the last year of his previous contract. For example, a ten-year veteran free agent who most recently earned $20 million has a maximum salary of at least $21 million, even if that is above the league-wide maximum. A free agent does not need to remain with the same team in order to receive 105% of his previous salary, although the team that signs him is subject to the same salary cap restrictions as with any other free agent.

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q16

Qualifying Offers are NOT Cap Holds || Bird Rights Apply to most Players

Maximum Cap Holds based on Years Of Service

Cap Hold calculation
The free agent amount depends on the player's previous salary and what kind of free agent he is:
Kind of free agent......................Previous salary ...............Free agent amount
Any ..........................................Minimum salary .................Cap Hold Calc

Larry Bird, except when coming .....................................150% of his previous salary2
off rookie scale contract ............... 1st Round Picks

Larry Bird, except when coming .....................................190% of his previous salary2
off rookie scale contract ................2nd Round Picks

Larry Bird, following the fourth .......................................200% of his previous salary2
season of his rookie scale contract .. 1st Round Picks

Larry Bird, following the fourth ........................................250% of his previous salary2
season of his rookie scale contract ,, 2nd Round Picks**
** Rule uses Average Salary - which we do not have so 1 and 2nd round picks applies

MLE - • Three Mid-Level exceptions now exist:

- For non-taxpayers: Mid-Level exception set at $5 million in 2011-12 and 2012-13, growing 3% annually thereafter; maximum contract length is four years.

- For taxpayers: Mid-Level exception set at $3 million, growing 3% annually thereafter; maximum contract length of two years.

- For teams operating with salary cap room: Mid-Level exception set at $2.5 million, growing 3% annually thereafter; maximum contract length of two years

Under tax is $5,150,000 4 yrs 3% raises // Tax payers $3,183,000 3 yrs 3% raises and with cap space $2,500,000M 2 yrs 3% raises

Min
$507,336 (caphold)
1yr $788,872 /2 yr $884,293 /3 yrs $916,099 /4 yr $947,907 /5yrs $1,027,424 /6 yrs $1,106,942 /7 yrs $1,186,459 . /8 yrs $1,265,977 /9yrs $1,272,279 /10+ yrs $1,399,507 .

BAE
BAE: BI-ANNUAL EXCEPTION -- None

First-round pick coming off rookie contract: 250% of previous salary if prior salary was below league average; 200% of previous salary if prior salary was above league average

Bird player: 190% of previous salary (if below average) or 150% (if above average)

Early Bird player: 130% of previous salary

Non-Bird player: 120% of previous salary

Minimum-salary player: Portion of minimum salary not reimbursed by the league

CAP HOLDS CAN BE FOUND EASILY ON SHAMSPORTS.COM

Also in FA thread. Make sure you like the caphold if you want the rights to a player. That caphold is a hit on your salary cap.

When a team uses a non-taxpayer's MLE, they are committing to the fact that they won't be taxpayers
so they invoke a hard cap right around $75M

Players signed using Bird Rights are allowed a MAXIMUM of 7.50% yearly raises from the 1st year salary and a maximum of five years. Players signed not using Bird Rights are allowed a maximum of 4.50% yearly raises and only a maximum of four years. For example if I offered Byron Mullens (I own his bird rights) a five year deal with a starting salary of $10M/yr (which I wouldn't, I just picked an easy figure to work with), the biggest raises I could give him would be $750k/year for a contract of $10,000,000 / $10,750,000 / $11,500,000 / $12,250,000 / $13,000,000. If I attempted to offer David West (I do not own his rights) that same starting money, I'd only be allowed to offer him four years with raises of $450k per year.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have a player on your team for the 2013-2014 season with a team option, qualifying offer, or unguaranteed contract, you may post your decision in this thread. All decisions must be made by the start of Tier 1 Free Agency. If nothing is posted, you will accept the team option or qualifying offer and all contracts will become guaranteed.

League Rumors/Tweets

Spoiler:
LeBron James ‏@KingJames
Sad to see my running mate and best friend @dwyanewade traded. #BrothersForLife

Stephen A Smith ‏@stephenasmith
I've been informed that trade of Dwyane Wade will weigh heavily in Lebron's free agency decision this upcoming summer.

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine
Though Melo is in a much better position to win after being traded to the Wolves, he will most certainly test FA.

THREE ‏@DwyaneWade
Will miss my brothers @KingJames and @chrisbosh but excited to be in Boston. #CelticNation #Strivefor4

Chris Broussard ‏@Chris_Broussard
My belief is that Boston will have to make some big moves this summer to keep Wade. He wants to win and he's not sure how much longer his body can hold up.

Ken Berger ‏@KBergCBS
Eric Bledsoe being very cautious coming back from knee injury. Knows he is sure to get close to max in FA.

David Aldridge ‏@daldridgetnt
As of right now, it seems as though both Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph are unsure whether they will opt out of their contracts.

Are you going to provide the cap hold associated with each draft slot in the first round?

No reason 30 guys should have to go look that up. So I took the figures RealGM uses for rookie scale. Technically you can sign them for 120% of that amount and most teams generally do so the cap holds should be:

1.$5510640
2.$4930560
3.$4427640
4.$3992040
5.$3615000
6.$3283320
7.$2997360
8.$2745840
9.$2524200
10.$2397840
11.$2277960
12.$2164080
13.$2055840
14.$1953120
15.$1855320
16.$1762680
17.$1674480
18.$1590720
19.$1519200
20.$1458360
21.$1400040
22.$1344120
23.$1290360
24.$1238640
25.$1189200
26.$1149720
27.$1116600
28.$1109760
29.$1101600
30.$1093680

One of you guys who typically runs the game should probably double check my work, but otherwise hope this helps people.

Pacers buy out the final year of Dorell Wright's contract making him a FA and clearing more cap space to shop with. $3,000,000 + 500,000 = 3,500,000. Will update my page after season/before FA.

Then people should divide by 1.20 if they use the list above because I already added in the 120%.

Orlando waives the fully non-guaranteed contracts of Jason Maxiell and Ronnie Price.

Decline to make the QO to E'Twaun Moore; he is an unrestricted free agent.

Will hold on to our other non-guaranteed guys for now.

He's an RFA, meaning you have to extend a qualifying offer in order to match any offer sheet he may sign.

For Bledsoe, that will put somewhere between $4M - $6M on your books. If you don't offer him the QO, he becomes an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team.
