GT: Bucks East Coast v. Bucks (8pm start-No TV)

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Sat Mar 8, 2014 2:33 pm

With deference to Max, I always enjoy doing the Wizards game thread. They are us and we are them. The primary difference at the moment is that the Wizards are enjoying their FTD season or perhaps their 2000-01 year. As long as Grunfeld is GM, they are no threat to be competitive for more than one season.

Given that the Wizards really want this game for the "playoff" seeding in the East, it will be tough for them to beat us tonight unfortunately.

Hammond and Grunfeld I believe are the only two GM's in the top-ten in league tenure who haven't had their teams win a playoff series. (ETA: My bad-forgot about that memorable series win a number of years ago over Scott Skiles Bulls team)

We do lord over them in the historical performance metrics:

http://saveourbucks.com/how-bad-have-th ... -recently/

However those markers of success have been few and far between during the past two decades. Since the 1991 season, the Bucks have won 50 games only once (2001). In that time frame, only the Washington Wizards (0), expansion Charlotte Bobcats (0) and expansion Toronto Raptors (0) have had fewer 50-win seasons than the Bucks.

50-win Seasons by NBA Team 1991-2013

30. Washington Wizards (0)

29. Toronto Raptors (expansion team in 1995) (0)

28. Charlotte Bobcats (expansion team in 2004) (0)

27. (T) MIlwaukee Bucks (1)

27. (T) New Jersey Nets (1)

27. (T) Philadelphia 76′ers (1)

27. (T) Los Angeles Clippers (1)

Playoff series wins are the same story. Since 1991, the Bucks have won only two playoff series, both in 2001. Again, measured by this metric, the Bucks are close to the bottom in that time frame. Only the expansion Charlotte Bobcats, who were founded in 2004, have no playoff series wins. Toronto and Washington each have one playoff series win. The Bucks, with two series wins, are tied with Golden State (2), the Los Angeles Clippers (2) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (2). The small market Spurs tie the Lakers for the lead in this category with 34 playoff series wins in this time frame. Additionally, small market Utah has won 18 playoff series in the stretch and small market Indiana has won 17 playoff series.

Playoff Series Wins by Franchise 1991-2013

30. Charlotte (expansion 2004) (0)

29. (T) Toronto (expansion 1995) (1)

29. (T) Washington (1)

28. (T) Milwaukee (2)

28. (T) Minnesota (2)

28. (T) Los Angeles Clippers (2)

28. (T) Golden State (2)

Here's hoping to 40 minutes tonight from the Bucks new find, young Jeff Adrien. Adrien is averaging 9/9 in only 22 minutes per game, threatening Dan Gadzuric's 9/9 in 22mpg achieved during the tank end to the 2005 season.

Wiz fans however can take comfort that their #1 draft pick, 3rd overall selection Otto Porter, is averaging a robust 1.7ppg and 1.4rpg on the season. He may soon supplant Joe Alexander as the highest lotto pick not to be offered a contract after his rookie deal is up. Then again, it has been hard for Porter to earn playing time over all-star Trevor Ariza.

I realize the sarcasm is a bit too heavy here, but in all seriousness these are perhaps the two worst run franchises in the NBA over the prior two decades. Amazingly Ernie G. has been the GM of both teams for a combined 15 of those years.

I'm across the street at the Hyatt, looking at the BMO Harris and the MJS building. Still a little drunk. MIlwaukee folk: what's good?

Not even going unless I manage to get away for a couple minutes later night. Which, maybe. It would be my first game at the BC.

I'm thinking a number of local RGM members would take you to the game tonight to soak up the au jus. Cheap scalper tickets readily available. You need to do this. 8-)

Has O.J. been suspended yet? He probably knows the fun places to hang out tonight.

If I can skip away for a quarter I will. I'm gonna be across the street all night.

If you see a 6'2" shaved-head dude in a black suit and a black and white tie, that'll likely be me. Pissed off girlfriend might be accompanying me. Say hi and we'll grab a beer.

Wizards won one in 2005. Grunfeld has been here in DC so long that this is his second go round at making people think something is going to happen.

Paul, I think we lose this one. In the end, it'll be too much Gooden for us to overcome.

Drew Gooden's best present to Milwaukee would be dropping a triple double on us tonight.

I've made my way to a few when they were playing in MN, but nope, never been to a game down here.

All of this talk about going to the game made me pull the trigger. I picked up a wheelchair and companion seat for the game. My son wants to see Wolters play before they trade him to get rid of the O.J. Mayo bad contract. :)

I don't know how you can pass up the opportunity to see Drew Gooden in person.

I mean, the guy has played for half of the teams in the NBA.

Not just everybody can put that on their resume.

Go to Major Goolsbys for burgers/wings/beers before the game. Trust me.

LOL, sad but true.

Man, I might get flamed for this...but I think Goolsby's is totally overrated. Only remains open b/c of where it is.

Half of the excitement of Goolsby's is an emotional attachment & connection to the place. I've been going there since I was a kid. Blind taste test on the burgers & wings, I can't tell you they are the best in the city. But the memorabilia and the memories & the experience make it a special place for me.
