The Blue Jays have agreed to terms with Ervin Santana on a one-year, $14MM deal, Dionisio Soldevila of ESPN Deportes tweets.

Soldebila was also the reporter that broke the news that Santana fired Bean Stringfellow

Of the three (Garza, Ubaldo & Santana), he was the one I least wanted. But at the price each was given, it's definitely worth it. Worse comes to worst, we trade him at the deadline. The rotation looks a little better, and thankfully, this means Stroman can start the year at Triple-A. He is not ready. It'll be Hutch v Happ for the last spot, and I hope Hutch earns it.

Well, good on a couple of scores. He pitches well he may stay or earns a comp pick. He pitches poorly, he's gone with no carryover to 2015. He is on a one-year deal, so highly motivated. Even if he pitches well enough, can even let him walk without a QO (or comp) if guys like Sanchez, Stroman, Hutchinson, etc, look really ready.

I think Santana did well to walk away with what equates to his qualifying offer, given the juncture of the off-season which he signed. I don't know what playing for Rogers Centre will do for his FA value next season.

If he's successful we'll be able to offer him a QO again next year and either gain a pick or keep him around for another year.

Definitely would have preferred Garza or Jimenez, but for the term (1 year) I can't complain. Definitely makes the rotation look a lot better.

It's amazing what a long offseason will do. If I told you the only offseason move the Jays would make is to sign Santana to a 1-year deal, we'd all be up in arms. But, here we are somehow satisfied with this. Thanks for tossing us a biscuit, Rogers.

I hope Hutch starts in AAA too to build up his arm in lower pressure situations. I'd be fine with giving Happ, Rogers, Redmond, Romero the first shot at the 5th spot if Santana signs.

Thank Fooking The Lord.

Either this is because Happ/Redmond have been a complete and utter disaster this spring. (Both can go pitch in Buffalo or even GTFO, IDC) Pressure is now off Stro/Hutch/Rogers to all perform. Now we have three guys to rotate through the fifth spot and can go with the hot hand. Although I imagine Morrow will miss his customary 10-12 starts. So one of those guys will have to cover that as well.

Or AA is a balls-to-the-wall negotiator and knew he could break Santana with the comp pick/wonky elbow scaring every other team off.

Maybe we land Drew on a one year too. I just got back from Florida and caught a couple of ST games and freaking Goins can't hit for shyte. Weak slap hitter that has to pray his balls roll out a hole in the IF. Getz can't be a serious consideration. He's a hot turd in a dirty diaper. Izturis is needed as a backup at a bunch of other positions. Drew makes too much sense. Beeston needs to grow the eff up and put the b.s. with agents behind him for the good of the team. It's not helping us any alienating anybody regardless of Beeston's personal feelings about their business tactics. Boras might be an axehole of the first order and done some pretty slimy shyte in his day, but he broke no laws, stayed completely within the situations MLB allows. If the league management is pissed at him threatening to not have players sign and go back into the draft then they should get rid of the provision that allows it. Don't punish a guy for using all he can to get his players the most he can. That's his job as an agent.

I'm mostly happy with this because it means we're not going to pull a 2009 all over again.

I really don't want to fire AA, I think he's learning.

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

No chance of Hutch starting in AAA, based upon Spring Training so far. He has arguably been our best starter thus far, and Gibbons has emphasized the fact that they are bringing the best 25 guys with them to start the season.

The way I see it at this point, this is our rotation;

Dickey
Santana
Morrow
Buerhle
Hutchison

11:40am: The deal is not yet done, but Santana and the Jays are discussing one, the New York Post's Joel Sherman tweets.
