Phil ready to be a Don like Riley?

So its being reported that Phil may take the Knicks job ala Riley's role in the Heat organization.

There is no guarantee but I think Phil succeeds because like Riley, he brings a plan and probably knows what he wants his organization and culture to look like. Only thing is Mickey literally lets Riley do what he wants and stays out the way, I have my reservations that Dolan can do the same lol although Knick fans might riot if he screws this up

Riley was maybe thinking about retirement but not now, lol There is some hidden rivalry somewhere in there.


So my fellow Heat fans, how do you feel about a possible epic clash of Don Riley vs Don Jackson....free agent battles, player battles, cultural battles.... me personally, I think this has some serious potential for the good of the NBA provided the Knicks don't screw this up as they are clearly capable of doing.

Any thoughts if this gets pulled off and brings fruition?

He's the best coach of all time, but there's no guarantee he'll be just as good (or even half as good) as a GM/President.

And then, he'd be working for Dolan.
Which means a constant risk that he might end up working for Isiah.

I am sorry but this is total bull****. Even if Phil signs there the Knicks will have a garbage roster for next season because they have Amare, Chandler, and Bargnani on the roster (not to mention no way Knicks can sign him outright being so over the cap). LeBron isn't going there to waste a full year of his prime. Plus one season of PJ isn't greater than the stability of Miami Heat under Riley. Whatever happens, no way LeBron ends in NY next season. While Dolan has bigger pockets than Arison because he is in NYC, Arison has still shown a willingness to pay the luxury tax.

Forget the legacy angle of changing a team again, there are no better basketball options than Miami for LeBron.

Even in 2015 I don't see LeBron going to play for NYK. Assuming they get PJ, they aren't going to turn around their franchise that fast. I actually like the hiring of PJ for them but Riley is 100X more proven that PJ as an executive. Yeah, at this point I am simply betting on Riley keeping LeBron here.

Honestly, i hope the Knicks stay terrible for the next 50 years if possible. **** that franchise, fans, mascott, logo, MSG, their legends & anything that involves the Knicks. the thought of them possibly being a contender makes me puke

I'd love to see Phil go back "home" and mirror the success that Riley's had down here. Dolan needs to stay out of Phil's way and/or work WITH him a la Micky Arison does with Riley. What confuses me is a possible conflict of interest with his upcoming nuptials with Lakers part-owner Jeannie Buss.

I dont like the knicks but if it puts them in position to be contenders, it brings back the rivalry like the 90s and i would love that. So hope they get PJ and things turn around for them and they become contenders....so we can wipe the floor with their corpses after we beat them to death.

Jackson has never shown any interest in a front office job during his coaching career. He had the opportunity to pick Jerry West brain in LA and had zero interest.

Saying he would have a "Pat Riley" effect is just wrong. Riley was hungry to learn everything he could about running an NBA organization. Phil jumped on his bike and headed to Montana once the season ended. I rather doubt he has a clue about the work involved running an entire organization. He's also shown problems working with management in Chicago and LA.

The most likely outcome from this pairing is Phil getting tired of the BS and leaving after a year.

Don like Riley? It will take a year or two before he is more than competent. A lot of Riley´s success depended on his meticulous preparation, so Jackson has ways to go but they´re similar in some aspects but pushing 70 I doubt he reaches the same kind of success as the guy below.
