The NBA’s website offers some colorful shot charts for every player in the league, ranging from red (below the league average) to yellow (around the league average) to green (above the league average).

I deciphered the most efficient Heat shooters from each of the 14 spots recorded, creating a Super Heat Shot Chart. The graphic above vividly and strangely illustrates the team’s overall sweet spots and who’s pulling the trigger. A minimum of 25 shots were required to qualify, outside of the short-center area where Chris Bosh attempted 24 and the left-corner three where Mario Chalmers attempted 18. (It was slim pickings for each.)

Bosh led the team with six spots, as evidenced by his half-dozen heads, while Dwyane Wade and LeBron James had two apiece. Bosh, among the NBA’s best shooting big men, is on pace to double his 74 three-point attempts from last season. He’s taken 133 (37%) already and has 22 games remaining.

LeBron has been especially dominant at the rim, converting on an absurd 76 percent of his attempts. For perspective, Clippers center DeAndre Jordan leads the league in field-goal percentage (66%) while shooting just 6.2 shots a night. He converts 67 percent of his attempts at the rim, nine percentage points below James. Translation? LeBron is unstoppable inside, among other things. Chris Andersen (72% at the rim) is also potent around the cylinder.

The samples for some spots were obviously relatively low, but the graphic was designed to provide a visual for which Heat shooters lead the team from various spots. The Heat lead the league in nearly all advanced and basic shooting metrics.

Bosh is truly the second most valuable player on that team

Didn't Ray used to be better at the other corner instead? I guess that shot in Game 6 really changed his comfort zone.

Well chalmers success there is pretty much a result of low sample size. Ray could still be just fine from that corner as well.

Ray's just fine, but Chalmers is at 72% he's not going to beat that.

No surprise, Bosh is by far their best shooter. And this shot charts is another proof if needed that even today you have to make Lebron shoot Js, he is average on this aspect of the game.

Actually no it does not, it simply proves that Lebron isn't a Dirk-level mid-range shooter rocking mega-high ASTd% on his Js....

Yea it does he shoots 76% in the paint. Of course the plan is to make him a jump shooter.

I am not a fan of this shot-chart stuff. I always tell people if you are playing with 2 guys that get a lot of attention from the defense and they pass you the ball for an open jumper, thats what makes it a high-percentage shot. I bet most of those jumpers Bosh took were mostly open-jumpers.

No, no it doesn't. Comparing him to highly-assisted guys getting spot up Js and who are shooting Dirk-like percentages does not prove that Lebron James is average in this aspect of the game, ahich is what was said. That is a logical failing.

My bad I was talking about making him a jumpshooter being the best way to defend him, because of his ridiculous finishing ability. He's been an above- average shooter at the least for a while now.

Yep. Of course, the same could be said of any above-average player ITO finishing at the rim, even one not so crazy an outlier as Lebron.

Timely, given his recent 1/19 run on jumpers. O fcourse, it would make more sense to should multiple years, since there are seasonal variances, and he is generally shooting quite well from 3.

This pretty much. The notion that Bosh is our second most valuable player based on a shot chart efficiency is ridiculous. Bosh is often the exit option in a play when they shut down Wade or James, so he'll obviously receive plenty of open, in-rhythm catch-and-shoot opportunities, which are the easiest to knock down. I'm not saying Bosh isn't a huge part of our offense or that he isn't a great midrange shooter, but those numbers are inflated by his man just being forced to help out.

The interesting part to me about Bosh is his efficiency from downtown, especially since we have proven knock-down shooters on our squad.

Honestly, his numbers are still decent from the outside given his low amount of attempts. Having 518 attempts at the rim is pretty good, converting them at a 75.48% rate is just ridiculous.

Agreed, and he is murdering the corner.

I love the graphics - much better than just a list of stats. Thanks, newcomer!
