It would be great if Portland barely misses the playoffs or just makes the playoffs as the 8th seed, its very unlikely tho i think they'll finish 6th

If Memphis wins that game, it might be a crushing blow for a Portland team that will have to play the Spurs the next night and the Warriors soon after. Washington, Charlotte, and Miami are soon after that too. Their schedule could be rough. That Portland pick could end up alright after all

Our schedule is pretty soft and considering that we just run the gauntlet, I'm happy with that!

We will have to implode to miss the playoffs imo.

I don't expect it to get much lower than it is, but if they fall to the 8th seed in the West, they probably still have a better record than everyone in the East but Indy and Miami, yielding the 21st pick. If they fall any lower in the West, the pick goes straight to #14.

I can see the Warriors pass them but I don't think they'll fall lower than that either...

The Pistons' status has turned from TRYING to TANKING this week as they do everything in their power to avoid sending the Bobcats their draft pick (the Bobcats get their pick if it is nine or higher). Detroit has won just once in the past eight games. A home game against the Kings on Tuesday could hurt their tank job a bit. But a long West Coast trip at the end of March could put the Pistons back on track to keep their pick.

This is what I'm worried about. Do we really want our first pick in this year's draft to be POR's at 23?

it will hurt in the short-term, but the value attached to that pistons pick for 2015 would be massive.

detroit is 0.5 game away from the 8th spot, which would allow them to keep their pick. BUT they are only 2.5 games away from the 8th seed in the playoffs.

logic says they will eventually realize they need to tank and they will easily finish 8th or lower and we wait another year for the pick.

Seems to me DET decided to tank as soon as we beat them in those back to backs several wks ago.

I will be bummed if we don't get a crack at McDermott.
He will be added to the list of players I desperately wanted us to draft, who appeared tantalizingly within grasp:
Anthony Davis
Klay Thompson
Kawhi Leonard

Here's the reason I don't see them cracking the bottom 8, every team below them is absolutely horrible and will tank just as hard as they do.

Doubt it.

Didn't both Drummond and Davis have the same thing? No problems there. Plus it means, if he has half a brain, that he will enter the draft this year and not go back to Kansas.

He's a lock for the top 3 this year and should be for the 1st overall pick. Plus if he goes back to school and the risks that. If the back thing does turn out to be serious he risks falling wayyyyyyyyyy down the 1st round (and missing out on millions and millions of dollars).

the cavs are a 0.5 game behind the pistons. it is definitely not hard to imagine the cavs passing the pistons. also another 4 teams (kings, jazz, celtics, lakers) are within 2.5 games. would it be that shocking to see one of those 4 teams win a few more games than expected in april? detroit also has a difficult schedule to end the season.

Davis had one in his ankle and Drummond had a back stress fracture but he was already in the NBA
