But I'd be pumped about it, though

Or it could be a Ron Wolf move (Sean Jones)

His cap hit is 3.925 mil in 2014, 4.675 in 2015. Hawk's is 5.1 in 2014 and 5.1 in 2015. I'd definitely rather have Hawk between the two because Hawk plays every game and Hawks lowest tackle total season just happens to match Jones's highest.

It still isn't huge contracts and those numbers go drastically down if we do cut him, he won't be much in terms of dead cap space and some of those numbers include unlikely to be earned bonuses that would roll over to future years if he doesn't earn them but they have to count up front something the Packers do quite regularly. My overall point stands, it isn't like we gave him some huge contract, I find it amusing everytime Brad Jones is brought up as some major bad contract when in the big picture he isn't paid all that much. All that being said hopefully he is upgraded. I get the same amusement when people bitched about Kuhn's relatively small contract.

Look at the history of extensions TT has given out. Just about all of those guys have excelled (we'll see about Burnett) and didn't warrant getting cut outside of Woodson last year and Brandon Chillar back in the day. So yea Jones makes 1/33rd of our cap total, it's still money that we could use to maintain cap flexibility if we wanted to make a major signing.

I guess, if you were given a set figure of $134 to work with for a certain period of time, and you had $4 you could better use else where instead of in a redundant manner (like having two slow, stiff, ILB's that can defend the pass) wouldn't you want the flexibility to spend it somewhere else or at least have the option too?

No one is saying Brad Jones or AJ Hawk are great deals. People are just saying that it's hard to completely avoid giving out a bad contract here or there... and when you do, it's better to have them be smaller deals like Jones and Hawk as opposed to a monsterous deal. Like... it would be a much bigger deal if Shields just does nothing next year, because he makes so much money now.

I realize what chuckleslove's point was about people bashing Jones's contract when in reality it's 1/33rd of our cap and to an extent I agree. My entire point was that running a team with a cap limit to max efficiency you need to make sure all of your restricted resources are spent wisely and not redundantly. I get how bad it would be if Clay just milked the hell out of his contract and never performed like he had before and I get that no teams are immune to bad or even mediocre deals. I'm just saying if you want to get the most bang for your buck don't sign two players (for a combined 9-10 mil annual cap hit) to play the same position when they have the same deficiencies. I love TT as much as anyone and I get this is a battle that isn't worth picking in the grand scheme

Yeah, I agree with you to a certain extent. There is a reason that we have poop at ILB... and a lot of it has to do with dropping $8-$10 million a year on two guys who aren't very good.

Packers also reported to like OLB Parys Haralson. Recently from the Saints, once played for the 49ers.

I'm happy I never have to watch Jennings try to play safety for the pack again.

I figured someone would give him a look but it's odd any team would snatch him up this early in free agency.

Broncos are going to be in terrible shape in 2-3 years.
