Who will be our next GM/President?

Post#1 » by Q00 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 4:44 am

Its now official that Phil is taking over the Knicks, and the reports say he's getting 15 mil/yr + a minority ownership. While I would've loved to have this news be about him taking over the Pistons instead of Knicks, I now understand why Gores didn't put up a fight for him at that price.

That said, his only real logical choice to take over is now no longer available, so who do you think he turns to now? I'm not asking who you want it to be, rather who Gores is actually going to get?

There's the Isiah rumors of course, and I think Izzo could be in play for a front office role if he gets hired as HC, but other than that its hard to think of any other guys Gores has connections to aside from Checketts. :dontknow:

It probably will be Isiah. Gores doesn't really know a lot of people within the buisness. Sad days my friends :(

Just because Jackson was your only logical choice (that isn't logical) doesn't mean there isn't a plethora of others. Who's the #2 behind Buford in San Antonio? What about Pritchard's availability?

There are dozens of qualified individuals out there. Just because you don't know their name doesn't make them an illogical choice.

Not Phil Jackson. Just officially agreed to be the Knicks GM. I'm sure we'll hire a guy gores knows from the country club who runs a division of General Electric. Or Chauncey. Either way. We're screwed. Maybe Smoove will be a player/GM

Atleast the half time shows would be entertaining!

Chris Wallace
Donnie Walsh
Kevin Pritchard
Mark Hughes
David Morway
Jeff Weltman
Garry Sacks
Michael Winger
Troy Weaver

Plenty of options...

Who will it be? Morway. Paid his dues with the Pacers but with Walsh, Bird and Pritchard around he may want to move on.

We were never going to get Phil anyways, since its not big enough spotlight for him (the man absolutely loves attention) nor does he have any actual ties here besides a flimsy Gores connection.

Let's just not speculate big names coming here because frankly, more often than not, they don't. Plenty of past precedent to dictate probability outcome.

Pritchard seems to be the logical choice and near perfect scenario for him to rebuild around Dre. Question is, is he willing to interview during the off season, who knows.

Why is so hard for some on here to read people's posts correctly?

For one, I said "his only real logical choice to take over is now no longer available", and somehow you read that as "MY only logical choice". smh

I write Idina Menzel and you read Adele Dazeem

Seriously though, I asked specifically who YOU think he's going to hire, not whether their are other available options. Obviously he's going to hire someone, so there's going to be other options for him. Heck he could just end up putting one of his Platinum Equity guys in charge, if necessary. That wasn't the question. If you don't have an opinion on who YOU think he's actually going to hire, then you can move along with your strawman responses.

And yes, Jackson was Gores most logical choice to hire, given that he's been using him as a consultant for over a year. That much has been apparent to everyone for a while now, not just me. In fact, there's even a report today that suggests Jackson and the Knicks is NOT a done deal yet, and that the Pistons could actually still be in the mix to hire him to their front office.

More than one league source cautioned that while the Knicks are way out in front on Phil Jackson publicly, they are not the only team with Jackson’s ear on a possible front office job. The Detroit Pistons are said to be very much in the mix and the Cleveland Cavaliers have at least reached out, although their interest is somewhat muddied at this point. Jackson did some unpaid consulting for Pistons owner Tom Gores last summer, and the two have become somewhat close according to sources. Current Pistons president Joe Dumars is in the final year of his contract and sources close to the situation say it is unlikely that Dumars remains with the Pistons beyond this season.

I'm sure I'll have no familiarity with whoever gets the position and learn about the person as the details come out when it is announced. That being said, I'm confident that they will be very capable and get us a good coach and clean up our roster. Joe doesn't seem to understand the cap or balancing our roster and his ego is too big to fix his mistakes. The new GM will not be burdened with that and will make changes swiftly. I'm very muuch looking forward to this offseason.

Lets Go Tom Penn
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Just looked up Penn...he makes my final 4:

Sacks - Rivers surely has more power in LA & the team is basically built.

Morway - Bird runs the show & the team is built.

Pritchard - Bird runs the show & the team is built

Penn - was close to being hired in Philly but chose to stay at ESPN. He might be tempted by Drummond & Monroe

I want Garry Sacks just for the name alone.

Imagine the ingenious nicknames we could come up with for him when he starts to suck :D

The original question of "I'm not asking who you want it to be but rather who is Gores going to hire" is really a bad one. Unless you somehow ARE Tom Gores or have a telepathic link inside his head then you can't really speak for what HE believes his logical choices for GM are.

The only thing you can state is what YOU believe his logical choices are -- from your perspective. Which means that you are putting YOUR own words into Gores' mouth.

YOUR words were that his only logical choice was somehow Phil Jackson.

It's perfectly reasonable for IH to conclude this is how you feel. Because it IS how you feel. Or at least what YOU wrote.

I just wish for once that when you were called out for saying something laughable on these boards that you would just OWN it instead of trying to find some sort of loophole. Just once.

You and Heisenberg should get together and learn how to read together. Apparently you don't know how to either, or you just missed the opening of my post where I said "who do you think he turns to now?"

I'm not sure the problem here is you not knowing how to read though, rather you reading way too much into my posts for some reason.

All I asked was to make a prediction about who you think Gores will hire. wtf is so difficult to understand? smh

If you don't know, either take a guess or don't answer. Its not rocket science man. You don't need an ivy league degree in statistics

If you think I care at all what anyone online thinks about my opinion, to the point that I would look for loopholes in my own posts to try and change what I said about something...sorry you sound delusional. I'm simply repeating what I wrote word for word for those who didn't read it properly the first time. I didn't change anything I said. It says the same thing. You just either don't know how to read or are delusional and reading too much into what I wrote. I'm laughing at you, not the other way around.

Think Bill Laimbeer would do a terrific job for the Pistons he is smart, loves the Pistons, knows the the league and is tough as nails.
That said likely hire BC. sure he has his resume already in.

Return to Detroit Pistons
